I actually like to the Daily Grill Downtown very much and frequently have lunch there with my World Bank colleagues but in this particular visit my guest found a hair in her sandwich and the situation was handle very casually.
Good basic menu with a diversity of items
Love the booths- makes a business meal easier to do
Lentil soup was more carrot and celery soup with a few lentils.
good food , very busy but a bit slow, how long does it take to get soup 'n a salad
A Saturday night, 8:00pm. Two servers, food took 50 minutes to come out and when it did, it was cold.
Tables around us were dirty. Less than stellar.
I tried posting a review immediately after my visit but for some reason, this website would not process it - so I contacted the restaurant directly.
Super loud lunchtime environment
The food was plentiful. Drinks pretty good (the martini was a C+ at best). And server was attentive and nice. All in all a good experience. Will go back.
Food was sub par smallest double cut pork chop I have ever seen. The spinach did was good but that’s about all.
Reliable American food gets served here consistently. This time, the lemonade was watery. The crab cakes had more filler than lumps and the sauce was bland. That was unfortunate given the price. Service was friendly, but rushed. On the positive side, fries were hot and not too salty. Key lime pie was excellent. Mixed experience, but I will go back.
Best business lunch spot downtown. Great soups, salads and sandwiches, great service, good prices, booths for privacy, and modest noise level.
Good value. Food was fine. Service was a little rough, but acceptable. I like this place as being comfortable and quite predictable.
We had a horrible experience. The restaurant was not fully open, so we had to sit in the bar area, which I wish they told us beforehand as we were there for a birthday. Our server, one of the bartenders, was not informed of the ingredients in multiple dishes as one of our friends has severe allergies to shellfish and eggs. He also took about 25-40 minutes to actually put our order in after we had given it to him. We did not see our waiter until food was brought out over an hour later even though we all ordered appetizers, and at that point we requested the check. We had to call over the host to get our checks from the waiter. Our waiter then took all of our cards with checks and overcharged me the wrong amount. I still have yet to get this resolved and haven’t had my calls returned from the GM.
Good for a business meal
I hadn't been to the Daily Grill in a long time. I used to really like the food there, but it has gone downhill. First of all, what I ordered was not what was brought out (they brought chicken instead of salmon), but since I was in a hurry, I just kept it. The biggest issue was the server. She had too many tables, or she just couldn't keep up, but she would disappear for long stretches of time. My lunch guest needed a steak knife and it took forever us to find her just to ask for one. Then, when we needed the bill, it was impossible to find her. NOT a good experience, unfortunately.
Sat near the bar and was immediate and accurately served. Trout plain and steamed broccoli were perfect. Joyce made sure the entire meal fast, hot and delicious. Great place to go in alone and grab a good, quick meal!
Excellent service and great customer service!!! Our waiter was wonder!!! Very attentive and very friendly!
Our server had a ver dirty shirt and apron. Every one was supposed to receive monkey bread with their meal only two portions were given. The syrup serving for one of the meals looked like it was a leftover from some other table. The meals that were supposed to bring a chicken breast were presented with three tiny chicken strips. Those same meals were given sunny side up eggs with out notice or without asking if that were the kind of preparation eggs preferred. Every time a problem was brought up to the server he laughed and just said ‘I got you’, never an apology or recognition of an issue... Disappointing overall
Had an excellent experience at the restaurant. We went for brunch and the food was great and came with unlimited mimosas. The food was reasonably priced.
Meal was around the holidays and we were seated in bar area. Service was very slow. But I’ve always liked this place.
It took us 20 minutes to get seated since the hostess stand was empty and people lined up to get seated
Great for business lunches and political debates about the world, no matter who is in the White House.
It was not as good as it used to be. Burger was greasy and not flavorful. Fries were terrible -like they were supermarket string fries. Very hard. Used to go here once a week when office was closer. Sadly, things changed.
Meal & service first rate. Everything was great. Versus- we had almost the same meal the night before, where the service was beyond horrible. We had to get our own water & silverware. Foot took 50 minutes to appear.
What a 180degree contrast!! Glad we returned.
PS- Food was still excellent both times.
the service was beyond horrible. We had to get our own water & silverware. Foot took 50 minutes to appear. Asked for straw, sweetener, lemon. Every 6 min got 1 item & had to ask for other 2. Repeat.
Went back for lunch with colleagues next day (prearranged)
What a 180degree contrast!! Glad we returned.
Got immediate attention, Service & food arrived w/in 10
PS- Food was still excellent both times.
Daily Grill is very conveniently located downtown between the DuPont Circle and Farragut North Metro stations. It's a good place for meeting companions or business colleagues. The menu offers straightforward, American style dishes which are well-prepared. The service was quick and pleasant. The noise level at our weekday lunch meeting was so high that conversation was difficult.
This lunch was very important because I was making the case for mentorship with a group of young staffers at work. Daily Grill made the experience worth it. The staffers were pleased with their meals and the discussion. I was delighted by the great food and service and a bill that wasn't overly expensive. Thank you.
This is a most Dc restaurant for all. The food, drinks and staff are exceptional. Kudos to the management for having an excellent wait & kitchen staff.
Great food - Service was lacking. The chicken pot pie is outstanding!
Excessive wait to be seated as well as for service (understandable if crowded but definitely not the case). Limited to front seating area where the staff seemed more interested in preparing for the next day vs. assisting customers.
We split the bill on two cards and were expected to use the credit card machine ourselves —while the waiter watched. This is suppose to be an upscale restaurant. Stop making it so self-service. Why are we tipping the wait staff if it has features like a cafeteria.
good food and service for a 'quick lunch' gotta say it's expensive tho , grilled tuna salad and turkey sandwich $60 bucks ????
Entrees came out at unacceptably different times. Solid place overall.
Good lunch. Daughter loved burger; salad very food. Excellent service.
We had a lovely lunch at the Daily Grill. The purpose was to catch up with one another before the crowd set it. The food was hot, fast, and delicious. Thank you Daily Grill for making my day.
Your reception and waiters were quite thoughtful and also fun.
This restaurant is aggressively meh. Meh from the the second we walked in to the moment we got our meh food. I honestly have no idea why it was so busy! The only thing that wasn’t meh was the bill. I have no problem spending money for food, but this place felt like it was 25% too expensive for the value we received.
had an excellent experience at this daily grill. had never been to this location before. love this chain and wish they would open more locations. there used to be one near me and we went there very regularly. really enjoy the trout almondine! their creamed spinach is so good, too. they always have good crusty sourdough bread. wish they were close enough to go to regularly.
We went to the Daily Grill with friends, got a quiet table so conversation was pleasant. The crab cake entree and short rib were delicious! The portions were generous, wine list adequate. Prices very reasonable. We'd return on our next DC visit.
The place was out of our first two beer selections from the menu....how are you out of menu items on a Saturday night? Service was very slow, had to send the steak back because it was not cooked to order, etc....just a bad experience all together....
I have noticed that the service has gotten better the last 2 times I have visited Daily Grill. The food has always been great but the service was lacking. Congratulations for bringing Daily Grill back up to par.
