Daily Grill - Downtown DC Ratings and Reviews
I love the food but the last few times I've been to Daily Grill, the service was terrible. We waited almost twenty minutes for someone to take our order. The previous time, we waited 20 minutes to get the check. They need to step it up on the service and keep the quality of the food!
I've been to the Daily Grill a few times in the past and it was excellent. This time is was awful. The service was terrible (the server didn't have the qualifications to work at Applebees), the food was barely so so (the meat came out straight off the grill and had no time to rest, and was the fattiest pork chop I've ever had. The pesto had no garlic and the basil they used was not fresh by the taste - I get better from Costco), the wine list only had 3 bottles available (if there were more, we were never offered another list). For the price they charge, I expect much, much better. If this would have been my first time there, I would never go back. Now that it's my 4th time there, I will still never go back.
We've dined at various Daily Grill venues and have always experienced a good meal at a decent price. However, our recent experience at the downtown DC location was a real disappointment. The food was mediocre, the service perfunctory and the wine offering pitiful. While it might have just been an off night for that particular restaurant, the experience was bad enough to warrant our not returning anytime soon.
Restaurant did not do their part and report our visit to open table. Open table contacted me saying we missed our reservation. Which was absurd that me because we told the hostess we had a reservation, and there was only 2 other customers. So, I had to write a detailed email describing my visit. Not worth the trouble. Will not be returning
We love the food at daily grill. Our waitress was curt and barely civil. Rushed around. She didn't pause to hear what we need nor crack a smile. The noise level was higher than usual we could barely hear each other. They should install carpets or some kind of noise reduction. The food was great. The service terrible. We invited a couple from out of town.
There were 3 of us & we all ordered the cobb salad. I asked for additional avocado instead of egg & the waiter immediately said that's probably not possible, avocado's expensive, etc., but he'd check. When my salad arrived, it had no egg but had hardly any avocado. You should be more flexible when a customer makes a simple request. We were also never offered your delicious bread for some reason.
The restaurant has gone downhill. The hostess incorrectly attempted to seat us with another party, despite the fact that I had referred to my reservation for a party of 2. The server was clearly reciting menu specials from pure (incorrect) memory, without any true knowledge of the dishes. My chicken Caesar salad was terrible (4 tiny slices of chicken). The server never returned to the table to inquire whether the food was satisfactory. Fifty dollars for 1 soup, 1 salad, 1 sandwich, 1 iced tea and 1 lemonade. I won't go there again.
Cobb salad was subpar. Have had better cafeterias. Server lost interest in us after we only ordered $16 salads (that were not worth the price or even half the price). No refills, dropped off check as it was the mail. Hostess was great though. But not going back.
The greeter was slow. Yes, she has to seat a party of 8 before us, but I didn't understand why it was such a process for her.
Naomi took our order and then we didn't see her again until she dropped the check. She didn't refill coffee or perform a quality check
I signed up for the rewards program but was told that I couldn't use the free apartizer award until my next visit, despite receiving an email stating that the reward was ready to use immediately. That aside, the steak seal was good and the service was good. I only went there on recommendation from my Lyft driver about the free appetizer incentive, so that was a little disappointing. All in all an okay experience.
I had a reservation for 4, but upgraded to 5 the day before, but they initially showed us to a table for 4. Service was slow, and when we gave our credit cards to pay, there was a delay and we were told the computer had to reboot. The food was good, but service was slow.
I don't believe what I spent for lunch to lunch with an old friend was worth it. The food was nothing special, my toast was burnt and it didn't seem like the ingredients were fresh. There was nothing special to my overpriced turkey sandwich.
The classic margarita on the rocks with salt on the rim was distasteful.
The waiter made maybe 2 appearances during the hour we spent at the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend and I won't be visiting again.
Normally, it's a wonderful experience, but yesterday's service was lousy. Bread wasn't served, even after asking for it. When we asked a second time, it was brought after our meal was served and we had already started eating. I informed the server when we sat down that we were celebrating a birthday, we were told that they would give my friend a birthday dessert (which we would have happily paid for). The check was given at the end of our meal with no mention of the birthday dessert, it apparently was forgotten. At that point, we decided not to even bother asking for dessert. Unfortunately, I ended up tipping more than I should have, but it was to late once I pondered on it.
Both my wife and I had fried chicken. It was very good. The portions were very large, three pieces each. We ate two and we each took home a piece which became another meal. The sides were mashed potatoes, slaw, and a biscuit. The service was very good. It was my birthday and I received cake and ice cream. This was a pleasant surprise. The sound level was very low. All in all it was a very pleasant meal and evening. We will go back for this and other foods in the future.
