BBQ Bacon Burger

Chicken Pot Pie
Carrots, Mushrooms, Onions, Peas, Béchamel, Flaky Crust
The Chicken Pot Pie is fantastic! It was made with fresh chunks of chicken breast, loaded with carrots and mushrooms in a bechamel sauce, and topped with plenty of puffed pastry. It checked all the boxes to warm me on a cold D.C. night!
The restaurant was unusually quiet for lunchtime but it’s close to the holidays and the mask mandate is back for DC! Our waiter allowed us time to talk but gave us enough attention that we were taken care of timely. I had the braised short ribs with horseradish mashed potatoes and it was exactly what I had wished for! A health portion of juicy, flavorful beef on a big mound of mashed potatoes and jus! Yum! My colleague finished his dish so quickly I’m not 100% sure what he ate. I believe it was chicken with pasta. Very pleased and will be back!
Horrible service. Awkwardly quiet in restaurant with no background noise at all. Short staffed. Coffee was luke warm at best. Food however was good. Very strange restaurant.
Forgot to mention reservation as restaurant wasn’t too crowded . I had fish and chips; she has a bison burger and we split a calamari appetizer. Food was excellent and service was great
It was clear that the restaurant had staffing issues. After waiting 10 minutes to be greeted, someone came up ask 2 and proceeded to seqt us. He didn't allow me to tell him that I had reservations. Once seated, the waiter took another 10 minutes to acknowledge us. When he did, he was abrubt with little personality at all. The food was the only saving grace, and it was just ok.
The staff was nice and attentive. Food was good.
The host was very, very rude. I thought he might try to fight me he was so aggressive. It was very rude. The place was empty, he said they couldn’t serve me for an hour unless I had a reservation. I got on open table in front of him and made a reservation for 15 minutes and he refused to seat us. We came back in 15 minutes and sat at a table which had been empty before.
I booked it for a team meal but the place is really worn down and menus are the plastic laminated diner type. The food was okay, more casual than nicer restaurant.
Good food and great atmosphere. It was nice to be able to have a good conversation without having to compete with too much noise.
Great waiter who is also manager.
When we arrived we were met by a sign that read “please wait to be seated”. We waited….20 minutes later we had to look for someone to seat us. The person we found told us that she was the “new hire manager”, which was shocking to me that she was a manager given our wait time. Oh, and the restaurant was NOT at all busy. The “new hire manager” had looked our way several times, but never voluntarily acknowledged us. In fact, before we approached her, she was sitting at a table folding napkins. I could tell that the morale was not good there among the employees. The food was delicious. Management seems to be the issue.
Good if you are hungry. Not so good if you are looking for some ambiance. No tablecloths or napkins/ silverware on the table. Bartender was the server for the entire front room. No background music. It had more of a diner feel.
My dirty martini was not dirty-made without olive juice. My medium skirt steak was bloody. My wife’s medium well burger was red in the middle. The creamed spinach was the best thing on the plate. It seemed like they were short staffed and had no management to guide the ship. I actually felt sorry for the 3 people who were working.
It was just ok, food was overpriced for the quality but not bad by any means. The restaurant was messy/dirty. I was excited to find a last minute reservation on a Saturday night but after going I can see why. Server was nice. Menus are just a piece of copy paper printed in a crappy color printer, had trouble reading them because the quality was poor. Just not a “go out to dinner” type restaurant, more of a corner diner type place. Really needs a deep clean. Ladies room was gross, and the restaurant floors had food, wrappers etc. all over. Won’t be going back.
It took 40 minutes for our lunch order to be delivered. Food was tasty.
Place was empty and I assume it won't last much longer. They have raised their prices and reduced the size of their portions - not a great combination. It used to be much better and was always very lively, now it is dead and overpriced.
I waited for some normalcy before returning to a restaurant. I have mixed feelings about my long-awaiting experience. The service was slow as they only had 1 waiter serving 1 good size area. Me and my coworker took advantage of the 2 for $40 that included an appetizer, main dish, and sharable dessert. The spinach dip was excellent. However, the large chicken pot pie needs work - was not made out of love. The crust was gummy on the inside. The pot pie itself was lacking in flavor and appearance. The mushrooms were too big and the sauce was not smooth (creamy). It appeared that they were trying to accommodate for the size but missed the mark on quality. I was never asked or offered a refill on my drink. Since the service took so long and we had to get back to work, I asked for the dessert to go. I don't think its fair or appropriate to have a dessert listed and charges an additional fee if selected. Who doesn't have something chocolate as a dessert? I chose the Carrot Cake as I am allergic to strawberries and the Lemon Bar did not sound appealing. I understand that supply may be limited due to COVID but don't nickel and dime the customers, especially the VIP ones. I know this is not the normal service I am used to but it could have been better. I will come return with hesitation thinking about this experience.
It was okay but wouldn’t be a choice to go back to.
Great service from the waiter and bartender. The food was good as well.
I don't think I will return here. I am used to an upper echelon of service and ambiance at Daily Grill. I am not sure what happened. The food was cold and took forever to come out, even though only around five people were dining.
Excellent food, reasonable price, and very responsive service. Highly recommended!!
I used to go to the Daily Grill often before the pandemic and liked it a lot, but this last visit was disappointing. The crab cakes and the fries were not very good and the soup was also tasteless. I'm disappointed...
We used to live in DC and frequented The Daily Grill often.
It was a very quiet night there, a few at fables and a few at the bar.
We ordered cocktails, which were ordered and delivered promptly.
The menu had been reduced, likely due to not returning to the pre-Covid menu just yet. I ordered a burger and my husband ordered a sandwich.
While we waited for our food, a woman came out to the dining room with a bucket and mop and started cleaning the floors as if the restaurant was closed. The dirty mop was flung under our table, around and under chairs where people were sitting, including the bar area. When she was done, she proceeded to go behind the bar and make drinks.
In the meantime, our dinner arrived. Mine was not prepared with the items I requested, however, the waiter disappeared, never to return.
We finished our meal and waited about 20 minutes for a check. We finally flagged down the floor washing/bartender woman to get us a check.
Sadly not a good experience.
Dinner with family while visiting the DC area.
Service was terrible.
Kitchen was severely slowed, waited over an hour for food. Watched several tables leave after waiting over 30-45 minutes for food, one didn’t get their order taken before they left and the table and silverware were not wiped down/changed before another table was sat down. Waiters were doing the best they could and very kind/apologetic as they helped the kitchen staff.
What a disaster. First, split our party up in two separate tables (not even close either) even though tons of empty tables... come to find out their staff couldnt handle the customers. Took 45 mins to simply get our drinks (not alcohol), saw waiter maybe twice in that 45 mins; several tables just began walking out; kitchen was overwhelmed even though restaurant was maybe half full; no explanation on what issue was until we asked (which is still vague); by 1 hour mark only our salad was done. Had to leave at that point even though we wasted so much time there. Waiter gave us 50 percent off our drinks and just gave us what food was ready for free. Horrible experience. Where are you Gordon Ramsey.
Tried to be forgiving since this is all post-COVID, but I’ve been to many restaurants recently and this one came in last place. Sad - since it’s reputation is so strong. The brand has a legacy.
My experience was just overwhelmingly poor.
I have been going to the Daily Grill at this location since it opened. It was my first business lunch since the pandemic. The Server was prompt and gracious, but I was very disappointed in my dish. I almost always order the chicken piccata, but this was a different dish. The sauce and pasta were fine, but the chicken tasted with processed or otherwise pre cooked and reheated in the microwave...not good. I was surprised how fast our food came out and that would explain that the chicken already cooked. Please go back to the way it used to be prepared.
My favorite diner with friendly servers and good food. Hope patrons are returning soon, as it is still quite empty in the evening.
The services was very good but the food was bad. I ordered the chicken cobb salad and the chicken tasted like diced chicken out of a bag of precooked chicken and the entire salad was chopped like a chop salad. The lettuce was similar to lettuce you would buy at the grocery store to put on crunchy tacos at home.
They took a long time to bring the food and the meat was not as we ask for it.
Food was amazing although the service was a little slow. But overall would recommend!
Reliable comfort food!
Welcome back Daily Grill! Wonderfully delicious lunch with prefect friendly service. One in our group commented that his Burger was the best he had in a long time.
There was a lack of ambiance and very disappointing. I usually frequent the Daily Grill but this time I was underwhelmed.
I actually like to the Daily Grill Downtown very much and frequently have lunch there with my World Bank colleagues but in this particular visit my guest found a hair in her sandwich and the situation was handle very casually.
Good basic menu with a diversity of items
Love the booths- makes a business meal easier to do
Lentil soup was more carrot and celery soup with a few lentils.
good food , very busy but a bit slow, how long does it take to get soup 'n a salad
A Saturday night, 8:00pm. Two servers, food took 50 minutes to come out and when it did, it was cold.
Tables around us were dirty. Less than stellar.
