Daily Grill - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
Can't count the number of times we go to The Daily Grill before theatre. The fact that we keep returning says it all -- great food but even greater service...friendly, prompt, helpful. And we just discovered there is a discount for those heading off to ACT after dinner! An added bonus to a fine, conveniently located downtown restaurant!
We were pleased with the food and the atmosphere. Hard to get the waiter's attention when we wanted more wine, and enthusiastic busboys began clearing off plates before everyone was finished. The Key Lime pie was terrific, and our friend's rack of lamb looked divine. We'll go back and try it again.
We selected the Daily Grill based on proximity to ACT. We were very pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. While the menu was not overly original, every dish was flavorful, well prepared and fresh. Service was friendly, professional and efficient. This “off the SF foodie” radar establishment is worthy of discovery by anyone who appreciates good food. We have already made return reservations.
This visit to the Daily Grill provided one of the best meals we have had there. The restaurant was participating in the Dine About Town promotion, and the selections were a real bargain for the price. We all had the crab cake appetizer and fillet mignon entree. The dessert options were key lime pie (2 had this) and a brownie pie (which I had). The food was delicious and the service impeccable. There are many restaurants in this area, but the Daily Grill has become our favorite pre-theatre spot.
Review score is primarily for service -- they figured out we were in a hurry to get to the theater and worked hard to make sure we could enjoy the food and get out in time. Marinaded skirt steak was excellent with side of fries. Wife's fish was perfectly cooked. Very attentive and helpful, made sure we got everything together. Decent wine list, not overpriced.
Food was great, but the service needs improvement. My reservation was for a party of 6; 4 of us showed up 5 mins early, but the hostess would not seat us until "all" party arrive. I had to insist on being seated since we had a kid with us. Figured we could at least sit and order drinks/appetizers while we're waiting for the rest of the party. Service was just ok; waiter was not very attentive. And since there were 6 of us, the waiter got an automatic 18% tip. The waiter did not deserve more than 10%.
I was in town for the winter fany food show and took some guests to the DG for lunch. It was their choise but I have never encountered slower service in my life. The food was okay and the server was pleasant but the place was quiet and in light of the lenght of time it took to bring out our meals I could not recomend this place. It was actually embarassing, the only saving grace was that my guest has requested we meet here.
WENT WITH OUT OF TOWN FRIENDS FOR BREAKFAST/BRUNCH. fOOD WAS GOOD EXCEPT fRENCH TOAST CAME A BIT UNCOOKED---THEY TOOK CARE OF IT. GOOD SELECTION, FRIENDLY STAFF AND MODERATELY PRICED. NICE PLACE TO GO FOR BREAKFAST AND HAVE RESERVATIONS FOR LARGER GROUP WITHOUT BBEING HOTEL OR LARGER FORMAL BRUNCH. KIDS FINE TOO.
We had made a reservation for 1 oclock on a Sunday, so that we could get to the threatre by 3 PM. To my chagrin, I had made a mistake, the show was at 2 o'clock. We presented ourselves at 1 PM, explained our problem, and were seated promptly. We were served in plenty of time to walk the 6 blocks to the theatre without feeling rushed. The food was very good, total American comfort food for a cold day, and humungus portions. All in all, an excellent experience.
This was perfect for what we wanted - a no frills meal. We were eating with a very picky eater who likes basics - pasta and beef. The menu at Daily Grind is huge and will surely have something for everyone. While this is not anything close to the level of dining you can get in San Francisco, it will fill you up. There is a Prix Fixe menu which we ordered from - it was more food than I can eat.
We arrived early as the restaurant was busy but we were still seated before our booked time. Food portions were huge (aka typical American!), so after eating the starter and main course from a set menu, the final course was a real struggle! Meals were of good quality and arrived surprisingly quickly.
We ate here on new years eve and the whole dining experience was fantastic. Really great menu and the food was top notch. Service was good and from what looks like a modest frontage the restaurant is lively with a great bar. Really nice staff and service at the table was great. Lots of options in the area, but try this out. It was so good we went back the following night! Shame it's 5,500 miles away, but we will be back.
This restaurant is one of our "hot spots" and we always seem to enjoy! Whether we have a dinner or hamburger etc. it is always good and the wait stafff is always very pleasant and accommodating. "Elliott" the waiter is most generous with trying to satisfy. We try to ask for his section to be seated. GREAT RETURN RESTAURANT!
