We had a big group for a special family holiday dinner. The service was incredible and they were very accommodating! Amazing back room that gave us private space with kids - can't say enough about the service, especially little touches like timing on dishes for such a big group. Our waiter was proactive about suggestions to help kids meals too (brought food early, crayons/mats, special cups, extra napkins, etc). Food was good as well. Great location half-block from Union Square.
It was Thanksgiving so they were extra busy but personnel was really nice. I ordered their thanksgiving menu and it was really good, nice arugula kale salad (with cranberries and apple) and turkey breast with gravy and stuffing. The only downer was the dessert, pumpkin pie was not so good but all in all it was great food.
This was our fourth Thanksgiving dinner here. Always a great meal and service. Just one disappointment. The seared ahi dish was horrible. With everything else so beautiful at this restaurant, please don't serve this dish unless it is done right. Braised beef ribs with mash, very good.
I was at DAILY GRILL enjoying my Thanksgiving meal with a friend. The food was delicious and just what I wanted for this special day!!
I was NOT happy with the choice of Rock N Roll musice...Come on...Maybe soft jazz or standard songs or classical...It was too loud for a while also..I love Creedance Clearwater band but not on Thanksgiving Day!!! I don't think many Restaurant managers, servers, etc....know the value of creating an ambience with really sophisticated music.
Thanks for sending me the survey..I am going to eat lunch at the DAILY GRILL on 12/16 so if I don't like the music I will talk to the server...I paid over $70 for my special Thanksgiving meal and would really appreciate someone taking the time to pick better music to play!! Thanks
We had an issue with the host inviting us to go to the bar for happy hour for half-price drinks while we waited for our table. We had arrived early and pointed out our request for a booth in the back room. Turned out there is no happy hour on Saturdays. Shouldn't the host have known that? Anyway, after our meal, we spoke to the manager, who gave us a gift card for part of our bar tab. We paid cash so we weren't able to take her up on her offer of crediting our card. As for the food, I had my usual filet mignon with blue cheese crust but the menu no longer includes mashed potatoes as a side. You get one side and I opted for vegetables. Same price, less food. I would have preferred a 6 oz. cut and had the mashed potatoes come with the dish. Our server, Armando, was acceptable, not exceptional. We had been going here annually but will likely go elsewhere now.
Traffic on a busy Saturday delayed our arrival but staff was very accommodating. The food was wonderful and absolutely cooked to order. Our server was Elliott and he did absolutely everything right. He asked what our plans were in order to better gauge our timing, he made sure he understood exactly how I wanted my food prepared and then made sure it was right, and he was simply charming and engaged. I will definitely come more often and make this one of my "out-of-towners" stops.
This was a good location to meet up with family in San Francisco that we hadn't seen in a number of years. The service was excellent and the menu selection was broad enough to satisfy everyone's taste. The restaurant was a little louder than I was hoping for, but overall an excellent evening. I'd recommend the Daily Grill and/or dine there again on my next visit to San Francisco.
We should have left as doon as we arrived. Sign read wait to be seated. We waited and waited, bar was not bust nor was the dinning room and we had reservations! We were asked if we eould like a table or a booth. We answered booth, many visable open. No sooner did we answer were told " no booth waiters available.... why ask then? Eventually we were seated at a table for 2....by a person visiting with staff, yes unbelievable! Waiter arrived a few minutes later with menus and asked for drink orders. I ordered a specialty beer and quicly the waiter said and water tp my wife and hurried off...ummm, really! Hereyurned and wife asked for a glass of wine and he hurried off again...we would like an appetizer and we have already decided on dinner order....where did you go? Place is pretty empty, so whats the hurry?? Waiter returned and asked for order... I was in mid sentence when he looks over and shouts hold on one minute to another table? Staff? He looks back at me says dorry and says you want what? Again, this is not a busy restaurant at the moment. I would like the hummus looks at my fairly empty beer and asks if i eoild like another. He came back with my wifes wine finally, but no beer, no hummus. Hummus is eventually briught out by another staff member. Waiter returns and takes our order. Grilled veggie plater for my wife and steak and asparagus for me. No one checks on us during dinner, still haven't received my second beer ordered with appitizer. Dinner is finished and waiter returns with beer and asks how steak was " cause the guy vookingnit usually dries it out" I kid you not! Then asks if we would like a dessert menu...ummm no...check please!!
I have been traveling extensively for business and eating out for almost 30 years. I have never written a review for a restaurant, but needed to leave some feedback on this meal. We were in San Fran for the weekend visiting our son at college and could not get a reservation at some of the more well known steak houses, so we decided to try the Daily Grill because it was available on open table, we wanted to get him a decent meal at what we thought would be a reasonable price, certainly did not expect anything super, but was not ready for what we experienced. The three of us ordered Chicken Parm, Filet Mignon, and Tilapia. When I first tasted the Chicken Parm, I thought it was spoiled, my wife at the same time gave me a look because her fish was dry and tasteless, but didn't want to say anything in front of my son. My son who had been eating in a cafeteria for the last three months and would have been happy to eat anywhere, ate his entire steak, but when we asked him after he was finished how it was, he commented that it was just ok which we had never heard him say after eating a steak, bear in mind this was a 38.00 filet. Bottom line, food tasted like it was frozen, came from a low end food distributor, heated in the microwave, and then priced as though it was a Ruth Chris or something similar. Maybe we just had bad luck, but this was very disappointing!
we have gone to Daily Grill for years. We love the ambiance and the location and the menu variety but the food quality keeps slipping and we will start looking for our new regular place. My husband had chicken parmesan, I had chicken marsala (a special that day) and both of our chicken dishes were tired and dry at 5pm. our guest had the short ribs which seemed to be the winner of the night.
I would not go here again, and would recommend to my friends/family not to eat here either. It is expensive to have a restaurant in Union Square, so I expect that I’m not going to pay diner prices. That being said, even if I try to be charitable the food was mediocre at best. We went in about 15-20 minutes after the restaurant was meant to be opening, though it is attached to a hotel and the bar part seems to earlier. There were plenty of people watching the game in the bar area to the front, and after a little wait and some staff confusion we were seated in the table section to the back. There were only a few tables that were occupied that early, and the sheet on the host stand said they’d have 8 waitstaff that evening. Our waitress didn’t particularly care, she just didn’t seem very interested in us at all, and interestingly (to me in any case!) we heard her using the same sales pitch for a beer on draft regardless of what kind a person was asking about (I’m not that into beer but trying to make the same recommendation whether a customer asks about a lager or a stout seems rather ounhelpful). Basically the service wasn’t very good, the experience wasn’t very good, and we spent $20 on a hamburger that wasn’t even a very good hamburger.
Been here many times but usually a little earlier. Quite no u system and busy I imagine with a lot of convention folk. Service started out a bit shaky when the entrees came before our bread request and appetizers order. We had to cancel the appetizer but server offered desserts on her. Good save but do not know why the mixup. In any event we will go back.
Every restaurant has a bad night. This spot has always been our go-to spot before a show; for the food is solid and service is quick. Tonight was not our night. The menu clearly states that certain items can be made gluten free. Our server was unable to answer questions regarding these dietary restrictions. Four entrees were ordered; two were terrible. A steak, ordered medium-rare, came our charred and the server tried her best to explain that the well done steak is how the dish is usually served. The tilapia was charred as well -- and when cut, turned into a pile of charcoal dust. The entrée steak salad was a starter-sized portion. A bit disappointed; especially when compared to previous visits to this spot.
This was a bustling restaurant and bar - the cocktail was as light as promised; the cucumber tomato gazpacho was zesty and whetted one's appetite; the grilled salmon was moderately seared with a crispy coat and was served with creamy vegetables and mushrooms; I succumbed to temptations and had a key lime pie - the cream was lightly whipped, the custard wasn't heavy at all and the taste of the key lime went well with raspberry. A most satisfying dinner at $69.40 (gratuity excluded).
