Daily Grill - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
The place is great- In the city for Christmas Eve to see a show. Was a great experience made even better by staff member Elliott( hope I am spelling in right) - Price right - bar excellent- food well prepared- - will go back.
Thanks for making Christmas Eve a great time for us.
This place I’ve been to several times before and enjoyed it. This visit once the waiter found out we wanted no appetizers, or alcohol he was never there . Chicken was chewy....I think priced high for the quality . I had two 13 year old girls and myself with me. They also add 4% to your bill to help pay for the mandatory health care employers need to provide . But I guess we customers are paying it! Visited several other restaurants and nothing was added on to our bill. Hmmmmm
Our waiter was amazing. Although they were out of two of the specials, he took the time to talk us through other similar options. He even comped a glass of wine for the inconvenience. But we didn’t mind because the food was AMAZING!!! The pot pie was huge and delicious. I highly recommend this place.
I have dined a number of times at the Daily Grill and it has always been very good, however on December 17th the dinner was incredibly great !! We had a wonderful waiter and the BEST fish and chips AND cole slaw I have ever had !! Maybe the two glasses of wine helped !! It has always been a favorite and will continue to be so.
I had a reservation for 11:30 on a Sunday as we needed to get to the theater. I checked in at 11:30 and they said they couldn't seat us til 11:45. By then the waiting area was packed with people waiting to be seated. All but a few tables were empty, but we were told that they needed to clear the breakfast diners before seating us. People were getting angry - I checked again at 11:45 and then we were told we couldn't be seated til 12 noon. It was very aggravating standing in an extremely crowed waiting area for over half an hour while we looked into the dining area with all but three tables empty. Our waiter was nice, once we were seated and the food was fine. We barely made it on time to our theater opening.
Really looking forward to this lunch with my kids before a show. What a sad experience. The service was terrible and the food was sad. First of all, it took 10 minutes to get someone to say hello. The food took way too long and yet is wasn't hot when it arrived. The server said that the kids would be getting some kind of sundae with their meals.... never came. Just an all around bad lunch that didn't have to be. They were busy, but not slammed. Won't go back ....
We dined at the Daily Grill before going to the theater. By the way, we got a 15% discount on the bill by showing the same day theater tickets. They have a great children's menu also.
The food was good as was the service. We will be returning again soon for our dining experience #3!
P.S. We were caught in traffic (it is SF!) and I called and said we would be 15 minutes late for our reservation.
We were immediately seated when we arrived. This counts for a lot, especially with 2 children with us!
I made a reservation for 6:30, we arrived early and were told we would be seated in a few minutes. Although the restaurant was fairly empty, it was a week night, the hostess made no attempt to seat us. At 6:40 my husband went to check on the status of our reservation and was told we could be seated now. We were lead to a small table in an awkward position next to doors. We asked for a better table and were led to a booth in a nearly empty room.
After the disappointing start, the rest of the evening was what we expect from the Daily Grill. The waiter was attentive, friendly and efficient. The food was great as usual.
We will go back, just hope we don't run into the same hostess.
Very nice interior, great location by Union Square. But..that's it.
We arrived for our lunch at 12:30, only a few other tables occupied at that time. Two waiters.
Our waiter an older man with no smiles - we thought he was not happy to be there, working.
A little overlong wait for food. My crab cake had strong aroma of fish and the asparagus was inedible - french fries were very nice. Other lunches were OK - Cole Slaw was best bet.
Disappointing, very disappointing. Too bad - great location.
This was my neighborhood spot during the early 2000s. Good food, good drinks and good service. It could get touristy, but I never minded. The staff was always professional and courteous. I haven't been here in a while, but it's so good to know that some things in this town stay the same.
Rude. Rude. Rude. I recognize that we came to dinner on a busy night, but that doesn’t excuse our server being EXTREMELY rude to us when we followed up on orders after waiting over 30 minutes without seeing her once. Asking about when our food might be done doesn’t warrant “don’t you see how busy we are? Don’t you see that I’m doing the best I can? I mean, you see how busy we are, what do you want me to do?” There are several ways to convey this info without being rude. Not cool. We will never come here again.
We had a group of 9 for lunch on a very busy Saturday during the holiday season. I knew it would be very busy in the city so I made reservations 2 weeks in advanced. The restaurant was very busy as expected but even with our reservations we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. The hostess was not very helpful nor approachable when I inquired as to how much longer we would have to wait. The food was good but not really worth the wait.
Food was served cold, bacon was barely cooked. Waitress surupy sweet, but uncaring to food conditions. Manager apologized and customer changed order to hamburger. No consideration offered on bill for poor food conditions or mediocre waitress (lonnie.)
It will be a long time before we return. There was 6 of us at 11:15 a.m. so no noontime rush involved.
We love this place! Every December we come to Union Square to commemorate our engagement and shop? We stay at the Handlery Hotel which so well located just a block from Union Square. Have eaten at the Daily Grill several times and have never been disappointed.
Menu is varied but has lots of comfort food items.
Service and food were subpar at best
Very disapppointed as we have been dining here for 10 years
Service was lackluster and lazy. There were 4 of us and 2 of our dishes cane and were ice cold...no mention of other 2 meals. We flagged down our server and told her our food was cold and she shrugged her shoulder with no apology or no mention of other dishes. Our pasta dish came and it was hot but how we had person with food. Finally 20 minutes later 2 dishes came, 4th dish came with wrong side. Server peeked around but didn’t check back. We had to flag her down again and told her wrong side dish...steamed veggies which took another 15 minutes. Worst service and food as subpar
Asked for a managed and told one was not available. We were late for a show so couldn’t wait. Not sure if we will be back
we had about 1 hr 10 min max in order to order/eat/pay and out the door to theater. by the time we were all seated time was down to about 1 hr..our waiter walked no where near our table for about 10 mins now down to 50 mins. he finally came over took our order we asked for our bill with our order delivery we told him we were on time crunch..3 orders arrived giving us about 20 mins to eat but the 4th order (tacos for whatever reason) arrived giving our friend about 10mins to eat..food was good but i would not recommend if you are on tight schedule..
We had a group of 7 friends for our traditional San Francisco holiday weekend in early December and we went for 9AM breakfast. Our server was trying but food came out cold, wrong orders, incomplete, seems some plated before the entire order was ready, so delivered cold. Even toast was cold and not browned. Only one friend was happy. I would not recommend the pancakes at all. It wasn't very busy so the kitchen should have been better. Very disappointing because this could have been a wonderful experience. We were hotel guests and made a reservation but were seated in back of restaurant with no one else around us. Some friends did happy hour the prior evening and that seems like fun. I hope management pays attention.
