Food was good. Pleasant greeting. I sat down waiting for my lunch guest and it took a long time to get greeted by the waiter and an ice tea while I waited. During the meal, it was difficult to get the waiter's attention for refills or the check. I do not know why. It did not seem like they wait staff was over worked but maybe?
This was our first time dining at this restaurant and we were a bit disappointed. The restaurant itself was very nice and the service was great. It was the food quality which was surprisingly below expectations for the price points and type of venue. We had the calamari app which was just average. I would guess that this was frozen, not fresh, and not well fried. I had the Moroccan chicken entree which was basically a pre-cooked chicken breast with a dusting of spices and some poorly cooked vegetables. My wife had the salmon entree, which was decent, but nothing special. There are better restaurants out there, that have higher quality food preparation and recipes, even when compared to other corporate chains of this style. Would not recommend this place, unless you're eating on a corporate expense account's dime and too busy to search for another restaurant. Oh well...
We've been coming to Daily Grill in Irvine for many years and always had good waiter service and food. But this one Sunday night experience was a major disappointment. The waiter never introduced himself; we asked for water and bread and waited nearly 20 minutes before it was provided. We ordered starter kale/Caesar salads and got full kale/Caesar salads with grilled chicken. Bottle of wine was not in a bucket of ice, just placed on the table. One person in our group ordered trout, but the waiter came back 15 minutes later to say that they were out of trout. Why didn't the waiter know this at the time we ordered trout? So this person had to wait another 20 minutes before she could eat another meal. Food was very good....when it was finally delivered! We didn't order dessert, but asked for Kalua and coffee. He asked what Kalua was. We'll think twice now before coming back to this particular Daily Grill.
The only reason I didn't rate the overall experience as a 5 star was at the beginning it was touch and go due to no one knowing who was going to wait on us. Once that was determined, everything went well. The managers stopped by several times to see how things were going. The both also thanked us for coming in when we were leaving and invited us back. Our server, Grace, was very cute and had shy but fun personality.
My dinner companion had the chef's special, lobster pot pie, and it was huge. He said they did not scrimp on the lobster either.
We ended with the chocolate bread pudding...AMAZING. I'm not a fan of regular bread pudding, but this beyond addicting.
Again, had things started out better this would have been a 5 star rating all around. At least they corrected things immediately.
Service was so bad after 15 minutes with our menus being ignored we had to get up and go to the host stand to have someone come to our table. Don't know if that was a function of poor management by not staffing appropriately for a Friday lunch or if the server was bad.
Julie, our waitress, was a shining example of charm, efficiency and professionalism. Though great food preparation and presentation are most important , the ambience and courtesy of the staff complete our excellent dining experience at the Daily Grill. Our party of four agreed that the menu had something delicious for everyone...from vegetarian to carnivore...each of us eager to return.
Food was good, but nothing great and it was pricey for what we got. Two of us had the Braised Beef "Rib" no bone? I expect a rib to be on a bone. It looked and tasted like a piece of good pot roast and was plopped on top of some mashed potatoes, its flavor fine but not worth the price. One of us had the Pork Chop, the meat near the bone looked raw, he could not continue to eat it. Other meals were ok but also a little pricey. Someone had recommended that we go here for something different, probably wont go back. The waitress was very nice so we did not want complain to her.
I've eaten here many times and need to drive 40 miles to do so. Any opportunity that I have to be in the neighborhood near lunch time, I will gravitate to one of two places and this is certain one of the two. Really good food - busier than it used to be so reservations probably a good idea if eating at peak times. Service is always quality. I enjoy it - will eat there many times more, I am certain.
The venue is good and the location is convenient. Those are the plusses.
The waiter asked me if I had taken the drink order for my dining guests. Really? Wasn't that your job?
I ordered the Moroccan Spiced Chicken, a dish I've had many times before. The chicken was not the same. It was parts of a chicken fused together to resemble a grilled chicken breast, then sliced. Fatty, rubbery, horrible.
What is the point of eating here if the food tastes fake?
This is the second time we have eaten there when visiting Irvine and the food was very good.
We will probably take a break for awhile. We don't eat meat and the fish and veg options are limited and we would like more variety. Meat-eaters would fare better on an ongoing basis with many more options. It really is a nice, quiet restaurant and the food will not disappoint.
