Daily Grill - Irvine Ratings and Reviews
The only reason I didn't rate the overall experience as a 5 star was at the beginning it was touch and go due to no one knowing who was going to wait on us. Once that was determined, everything went well. The managers stopped by several times to see how things were going. The both also thanked us for coming in when we were leaving and invited us back. Our server, Grace, was very cute and had shy but fun personality.
My dinner companion had the chef's special, lobster pot pie, and it was huge. He said they did not scrimp on the lobster either.
We ended with the chocolate bread pudding...AMAZING. I'm not a fan of regular bread pudding, but this beyond addicting.
Again, had things started out better this would have been a 5 star rating all around. At least they corrected things immediately.
Service was so bad after 15 minutes with our menus being ignored we had to get up and go to the host stand to have someone come to our table. Don't know if that was a function of poor management by not staffing appropriately for a Friday lunch or if the server was bad.
Julie, our waitress, was a shining example of charm, efficiency and professionalism. Though great food preparation and presentation are most important , the ambience and courtesy of the staff complete our excellent dining experience at the Daily Grill. Our party of four agreed that the menu had something delicious for everyone...from vegetarian to carnivore...each of us eager to return.
Food was good, but nothing great and it was pricey for what we got. Two of us had the Braised Beef "Rib" no bone? I expect a rib to be on a bone. It looked and tasted like a piece of good pot roast and was plopped on top of some mashed potatoes, its flavor fine but not worth the price. One of us had the Pork Chop, the meat near the bone looked raw, he could not continue to eat it. Other meals were ok but also a little pricey. Someone had recommended that we go here for something different, probably wont go back. The waitress was very nice so we did not want complain to her.
I've eaten here many times and need to drive 40 miles to do so. Any opportunity that I have to be in the neighborhood near lunch time, I will gravitate to one of two places and this is certain one of the two. Really good food - busier than it used to be so reservations probably a good idea if eating at peak times. Service is always quality. I enjoy it - will eat there many times more, I am certain.
The venue is good and the location is convenient. Those are the plusses.
The waiter asked me if I had taken the drink order for my dining guests. Really? Wasn't that your job?
I ordered the Moroccan Spiced Chicken, a dish I've had many times before. The chicken was not the same. It was parts of a chicken fused together to resemble a grilled chicken breast, then sliced. Fatty, rubbery, horrible.
What is the point of eating here if the food tastes fake?
This is the second time we have eaten there when visiting Irvine and the food was very good.
We will probably take a break for awhile. We don't eat meat and the fish and veg options are limited and we would like more variety. Meat-eaters would fare better on an ongoing basis with many more options. It really is a nice, quiet restaurant and the food will not disappoint.
This was my 3rd visit. The food, as always was good, freshly prepared & delicious.
My only negative was the service was not very attentive.
The place was not that busy, and we hardly saw our server.
She was pleasant, but water was not poured, ordering dessert seemed an after thought to her.
Small details were not in the forefront of her mind.
I asked for something and she seemed to hear me, but went to clean the next table then came back 5 minutes later with my request. Hum ....
Disappointing and disgusting experience. Been to this Daily Grill 20 times over the years. The entire experience gets worse with each of the past few visits. Food is less quality as it used to be, service is not as good, physical space looks aged and needs some sprucing. Worst of all, a cook walks out of a stall in the men's room, runs water over his hands for 5 seconds (no soap!) and heads back to work. I would have left then if it weren't that my client wanted to stay and eat. Can't the cook read the sign about thoroughly washing their hands?
The food (+ the limitless to-die-for) home made bread served), the service, the price, the ambience ... who could ask for more?
This will be our EXCLUSIVE gathering place in Orange County from now on.
Congrats to the Water Grill team for such an exquisite experience. We shall return, and often!!!
The breakfast potatoes were extremely salty. If I went back I'd go for lunch. Also, my friend had Eggs Benedict, and the Canadian bacon had a lot of gristle in it. I'd go back, because they had tons of other delicious sounding items. I'd likely go for lunch though. Service was excellent. Free "monkey bread" with my breakfast was yummy. Restaurant was very nice inside and the booths allowed for more privacy.
