Daily Grill - Bethesda Ratings and Reviews
The last two times I lunched at The Daily Grill, I ordered the French Dip Sandwich. Both times, I asked to take home the uneaten second half of the sandwich, with the au jus. The first time, I realized when I got back to my office that there was no au jus, which was annoying. The second time, I peeked in the bag while I was still at the restaurant and saw two containers, so I figured one of them contained the au jus. But no -- again, I found out back at the office, no au jus! This time, I was angry. I asked for it to be packed up, was told no problem, but still no au jus? What exactly IS the problem here?
I used to be a huge fan of the Daily Grill back in 2006. I visited this location 3/29/14 and the quality and service really went downhill from past experiences.
No timely water refills, the meal took a VERY long time to finish. Angel Hair Pomodoro tomatoes were not fresh - they were clearly canned. Pasta was mushy. No plates given to a party of 6 sharing two desserts - we all had to try eating over the dessert plates themselves - very messy and uncomfortable. Only 3 menus given to us for a party of 6. Only 5 sets of silverware. Had to remind servers of our needs repeatedly.
They brought the wine list and when I asked for two different bottles of wine they said they were out of both! Ordered crab cakes and the center was cold, the aioli sauce with the calamari had a little too much garlic.
We left after appetizers and went next door to Morton's because there were just too many issues in the first 20 minutes.
We have been here many times and have never been disappointed. The food is exceptional. It can be a little pricey but we always enjoy the experience. The chicken pot pie is a favorite as well as the salmon burger. We also enjoy the pasta primavera. Desserts are fabulous, especially the key lime pie and the chocolate mouse pie.
My ahi tuna salad was ineatible because it was heavily peppered. The waiter brought some unpeppered tuna but it was bland and awful. I returned it and was not charged. I think the restaurant handled that incident appropriately and tried to be accommodating in a very pleasant way.
My friends Morrocan chicken was also heavily peppered and it didn't taste Morrocan.
Beautiful room delicious food, reasonably priced, this was a delightful surprise for us. Wife had Moroccan chicken, I had blackened Tilapia, both were delicious. Wine list is tilted a bit toward the pricey end, but < 40 bottles were available. Service was friendly and efficient. We were VERY pleased by this meal.
Got there early; asked hostess to seat friend when she came, repeating my name and describing her. Seated way in back - no problem until they opened a 4-table to seat 6 and then put a chair only inches from our table. Asked hostess for new table repeating my name and that I was waiting for friend. About 15 minutes later see my friend, wave to her and learn that she was told by hostess there was no reservation in my name and she had been waiting for 15 minutes. Waited another 20 minutes for waiter. Then another 40 minutes for meal at which point, because we had theater tickets which they knew, had 10 minutes to eat. WILL NEVER GO BACK.
A few years ago, we went to the Daily Grill pretty often, so I was looking forward to going for my birthday dinner. Unfortunately, they were having an "off" night. Asked for a dirty martini and had to send it back because it wasn't dirty at all; then the waitress spilled it all over the table. Got our appetizers but didn't have small plates to eat on. And didn't have utensils to eat them with. Ordered salad without cheese; it came with cheese and had to go back. Didn't get the bread we'd asked for until after the appetizers had already come. Got a special birthday sundae that I couldn't eat because of a dairy allergy...it was just one of those nights.
Conveniently located in the Hyatt Bethesda hotel, atop a Metro station, it is a neighborhood all-purpose eatery. Meeting friends on a Sunday evening, the restaurant was quiet and we were able to hear our conversation without strain. Each of us ordered to our special dietary requirements and the food largely arrived as ordered. The one dish that was incorrectly prepared was returned to the kitchen and a newly prepared substitute appeared. The server was extremely helpful and pleasant about this issue. All enjoyed their dinners and will return for our next get-together.
The food was good and the staff was very friendly, but it took more than a half-hour for the food to come, and then one of the two appetizers came with the main dishes. There were few customers and lots of waiters, so staffing was not the issue. It looked like they may have been training new waiters, which may explain the problem. Overall a very nice meal, but I would not want to try to go there on a regular lunch hour--just too slow.
Daily Grill is the most convenient place for lunch for all of us in the office buildings in mid-town Bethesda. Food is always very good, The "Simply 600" menu is great - all the dishes are under 600 calories. Salads are fresh (and huge) and burgers are juicy. Lime chicken salad is a favorite. f Servers are always very pleasant and try to be helpful, though the turn over among servers means they don't always know the details. The only downside is that it's hard to have a confidential conversation - there always seem to be half a dozen people you know sitting around you.
If you're going for lunch, make a reservation or get there at 11am. This place fills quickly and there was a line out the door for people waiting. I had the salmon and asparagus from the under 600 calorie menu. Salmon was cooked perfectly and asparagus charred and tender crisp. Loved it!
Title says it all. "Medium" hamburger was beyond well done. Food was not attractively presented, kitchen was "out of tomatoes" (!), key lime pie was too soft to be served, waiter was amateurish and though was clearly trying very hard, his prolonged explanations were an annoyance. Disappointing. Until now we have been avid Daily Grill-goers.
I've been there two days in a row now and the service was bad both times. Both days we saw the waitress three times during lunch - Once to take the drink order, the meal order and to drop off the check. Did not stop by to check if the meal was good or to refill the drinks. We were offered bread, but did not get it. Service was disappointng.
We hadn't been to the Daily Grill for a couple years. The food was really delicious, and with our requests for modifications, everything arrived to the table just as we had requested it. We had a great server, he was friendly and very prompt. Although it was the day after New Year's and it was very quiet, the restaurant was clean and comfortable. We look forward to a return visit!
It appeared that the kitchen/staff was overwhelmed with the crowd. This resulted in s l o w. service --- 25 minutes to get a drink is unreasonable. Food was good. They compensated everyone with free deserts which was nice. My server had 8 large tables and it appeared some folks didn't make it to work that night. I will go back since I like the place. All in all it was a pleasant night and we had the time to relax so all was good.
Both my daughter and I have a gluten allergy and when we made the reservation indicated that but did not receive any gluten free menus until we requested it. My daughter ordered a chicken dish as did I but the chicken dish I received was nothing like it indicated on the menu. There was no mozzarella in the chicken caprese and the chicken was dry. The potatoes had too much garlic in them as did the spinach. Not impressed with the Daily Grill and the food was unsatisfactory.
Disappointing experience with the disorganized blonde hostess at the door...empty restaurant but could not figure out where to seat us for our reserved table. My disabled mother had to stand there way too long. On the the other hand, Heather the waitress was delightful.
We had a large group for breakfast. The food was very good and the portions did not leave you hungry. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was quiet. Prices are a little high, but in line with the DC area in general. I recommend the restaurant and I would return.
Their chicken pot pie and spinach artichoke dip were outstanding and we had an overall great experience. It was pretty quiet but it was a Tuesday night so no surprise there. We had a two year old and they were very sweet to her and she warmed up to them despite being sleepy.
