Servers need to be better trained -- this is a consistent problem at Daily Grill -- very slow and never looking at a table after food was delivered. And food was served totally overcooked, as if it had been held under warming lights for far too long. Although there have been exceptions far in the past, recently, this has been the norm. Sadly, I won't be back, even though Daily Grill has so much potential.

A disappointing and somewhat unusual experience for the DG in Bethesda, which we visit probably once a month due to its proximity to our apartment and generally find enjoyable, if not outstanding. Our server was, I suppose, training an associate who stood by but that was not announced. He offered her little in the way of mentoring or guidance, which is probably for the best for her. She will not want to perform as he did if she is to be successful in the business.

His sequencing of engagement was awkward and off pace, needing regular reminders of simple things like condiments, beverage sweeteners, etc. Bread offering was 10 minutes after drink orders. One of our guests ordered a salad before the meal, which the wait staff confirmed was to precede the main course, but then failed to follow up, served the main course, then seemed offended that we asked to have the soup removed from the bill. No apology offered.

Carbonated beverages (Diet Coke, club sodas) lacked carbonation, even on second efforts. Finally, when the bill was being processed (split evenly over two credit cards), both halves ended up on only one of the cards and the entire transaction had to be redone by the manager on duty. Her reaction to our answers (outlined pretty much as above) when she asked how everything had gone seemed less than fully concerned.

I'm glad we five were good friends who were just happy to be together and were able to set aside the problems for the most part. Had this been a business dinner or part of a meeting experience at the Hyatt, I would have found it fully unacceptable. We will be back, but looking closely to see if this is becoming a trend at this venue.....we hope not.

This is an excellent restaurant, well located and with great food. The noise level is manageable and the staff are attentive, considerate and friendly.

I was early and was seated. When my guest arrived she was told that there was no reservation and was sent away. I will never go to the Bethesda Daily Grill again.

The food was excellent. We all ordered something different and everyone was happy with their meal.

It was Monday night and the place was very slow and not many people in the bar or restaurant. Both the service at the bar and at our table was very slow. Waitstaff was not attentive. I cannot imagine how bad it would be if they were busy!!

Unfortunately our lunch date was interrupted by our Server’s unpleasant & combative service throughout our visit.

He was not an active listener, made unnecessary assumptions that left me not getting what I ordered & barely checked on us. Which had us asking for assistance from another Server.

Not to mention his cigarette breaks lingered on his uniform when he did decide to see about us.

His horrible service & the fact that I was reassured by one of the Managers that their Veggie Burger was absolutely Vegan friendly before I made my reservation, (it is not as egg wash is a meat by-product) its a high probability I will not return to Daily Grill to dine.

Good food and, surprisingly, bad service. Our drinks order was taken promptly ... and 20-25 minutes later, nothing had arrived, so I chased down another server -- ours had disappeared -- and the drinks finally arrived. (The restaurant was not busy.) Then two of the appetizers arrived, after maybe a 45 minute wait. These were followed only 2-3 minutes later by all three entrees. Finally, the third of three appetizers arrived 5 minutes later.

It is time to update the Daily Grill menu. It has grown tired and the location in Bethesda could be spruced up some. I come here because it is easy to hold meetings for folks coming off the metro.

When we entered the restaurant, there was no host/hostess. I approached the bartender, and he sat us.

Our waitress was not attentive. She walked past our table quite a few times and did not check on us. I asked for sugar and watched as she brought food to her 2 other tables, paced the kitchen area, and checked on the other 2 tables before she returned to my table without sugar and said, “You needed sugar?”

Not a welcoming environment. Not a positive experience, especially given there were maybe about 5 other tables dining and 2 waiters.

Ordered Pepper Steak with calamari appetizer. appetizer arrived with the steak 30 minutes later. I said that we had wanted to eat the calamari as an appetizer. Waitress said "the kitchen was busy." OK. We sent the calamari back. Senior waiter/manager on duty stepped in and apologized. comped a dessert to go (we were headed to theater). Steak was wonderful! waitress may be new...needs some training/coaching.

A group of friends and I always eat at Daily Grill before going to Round House Theater. Nice varied selection of dishes, and the chicken pot pie is delicious. This visit the service was particularly good - the food for all 5 of us came out with a flourish at the same time, and our server was attentive without interrupting our conversation. We usually sit away from the bar where it is quieter.

The last two times I lunched at The Daily Grill, I ordered the French Dip Sandwich. Both times, I asked to take home the uneaten second half of the sandwich, with the au jus. The first time, I realized when I got back to my office that there was no au jus, which was annoying. The second time, I peeked in the bag while I was still at the restaurant and saw two containers, so I figured one of them contained the au jus. But no -- again, I found out back at the office, no au jus! This time, I was angry. I asked for it to be packed up, was told no problem, but still no au jus? What exactly IS the problem here?

I used to be a huge fan of the Daily Grill back in 2006. I visited this location 3/29/14 and the quality and service really went downhill from past experiences.

No timely water refills, the meal took a VERY long time to finish. Angel Hair Pomodoro tomatoes were not fresh - they were clearly canned. Pasta was mushy. No plates given to a party of 6 sharing two desserts - we all had to try eating over the dessert plates themselves - very messy and uncomfortable. Only 3 menus given to us for a party of 6. Only 5 sets of silverware. Had to remind servers of our needs repeatedly.

They brought the wine list and when I asked for two different bottles of wine they said they were out of both! Ordered crab cakes and the center was cold, the aioli sauce with the calamari had a little too much garlic.
We left after appetizers and went next door to Morton's because there were just too many issues in the first 20 minutes.

We have been here many times and have never been disappointed. The food is exceptional. It can be a little pricey but we always enjoy the experience. The chicken pot pie is a favorite as well as the salmon burger. We also enjoy the pasta primavera. Desserts are fabulous, especially the key lime pie and the chocolate mouse pie.

My ahi tuna salad was ineatible because it was heavily peppered. The waiter brought some unpeppered tuna but it was bland and awful. I returned it and was not charged. I think the restaurant handled that incident appropriately and tried to be accommodating in a very pleasant way.
My friends Morrocan chicken was also heavily peppered and it didn't taste Morrocan.

Beautiful room delicious food, reasonably priced, this was a delightful surprise for us. Wife had Moroccan chicken, I had blackened Tilapia, both were delicious. Wine list is tilted a bit toward the pricey end, but < 40 bottles were available. Service was friendly and efficient. We were VERY pleased by this meal.

Got there early; asked hostess to seat friend when she came, repeating my name and describing her. Seated way in back - no problem until they opened a 4-table to seat 6 and then put a chair only inches from our table. Asked hostess for new table repeating my name and that I was waiting for friend. About 15 minutes later see my friend, wave to her and learn that she was told by hostess there was no reservation in my name and she had been waiting for 15 minutes. Waited another 20 minutes for waiter. Then another 40 minutes for meal at which point, because we had theater tickets which they knew, had 10 minutes to eat. WILL NEVER GO BACK.

A few years ago, we went to the Daily Grill pretty often, so I was looking forward to going for my birthday dinner. Unfortunately, they were having an "off" night. Asked for a dirty martini and had to send it back because it wasn't dirty at all; then the waitress spilled it all over the table. Got our appetizers but didn't have small plates to eat on. And didn't have utensils to eat them with. Ordered salad without cheese; it came with cheese and had to go back. Didn't get the bread we'd asked for until after the appetizers had already come. Got a special birthday sundae that I couldn't eat because of a dairy allergy...it was just one of those nights.

Conveniently located in the Hyatt Bethesda hotel, atop a Metro station, it is a neighborhood all-purpose eatery. Meeting friends on a Sunday evening, the restaurant was quiet and we were able to hear our conversation without strain. Each of us ordered to our special dietary requirements and the food largely arrived as ordered. The one dish that was incorrectly prepared was returned to the kitchen and a newly prepared substitute appeared. The server was extremely helpful and pleasant about this issue. All enjoyed their dinners and will return for our next get-together.

The food was good and the staff was very friendly, but it took more than a half-hour for the food to come, and then one of the two appetizers came with the main dishes. There were few customers and lots of waiters, so staffing was not the issue. It looked like they may have been training new waiters, which may explain the problem. Overall a very nice meal, but I would not want to try to go there on a regular lunch hour--just too slow.

Daily Grill is the most convenient place for lunch for all of us in the office buildings in mid-town Bethesda. Food is always very good, The "Simply 600" menu is great - all the dishes are under 600 calories. Salads are fresh (and huge) and burgers are juicy. Lime chicken salad is a favorite. f Servers are always very pleasant and try to be helpful, though the turn over among servers means they don't always know the details. The only downside is that it's hard to have a confidential conversation - there always seem to be half a dozen people you know sitting around you.
