Daikaya Izakaya (2F) - No Ramen Ratings and Reviews
Everything we ordered was as delicious as we had hoped and as authentic as it should be. Our server was quick, friendly and had a much appreciated sense of humour. It’s a busy place with a great vibe but we didn’t feel rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
The Ramen Bar downstairs is more popular, but the upstairs Izakaya is worth a visit on its own! The waiters are happy to recommend all sorts of dishes, ranging from Cauliflower Kara-age to Pork Skewers served “Okonomiyaki-style” (sort of a savory pancake from Osaka) - we had 10 different plates and there wasn’t a dud in the bunch. This place has an impressive selection of beer and wine too, and the sake, shochu, and Japanese whiskey selections are second to none.
We had a veteran waiter who was with the restaurant when they first opened. He made recommendations and we decided to go with everything he suggested and it did not disappoint. We had a party of 8 (which was a bit snug as the table and the space is meant for smaller parties) but they were able to accommodate us. The food was outstanding. Definitely want to try the Ramen next!
This was my first time at Daikaya Izakaya and it did not disappoint! Our waiter was very knowledgable on drinks/wine and we loved all our drinks. The food was out of this world (highly recommend the fried octopus and pork/brussel sprout skewer). Everything we had was great. Definitely coming back!
Thoroughly enjoyed our leisurely meal at Izakaya. All 3 of us dining have spent time in Japan, and we appreciated the creative Japanese-inspired dishes and presentation. The one caution would be that tasting/sharing the numerous, intriguing tapas style small plates can quickly add up to a hefty tab -- definitely worth it for a special occasion.
It's the second time we go have dinner at Daikaya Izakaya and the first time it was a very pleasant surprise; this time it was consistent. We love the grilled avocado, and enjoy the sake recommendations we receive. We particularly liked the butternut squash seasonal dish.
Went there with friends for Ramen. The site wasn't clear that Ramen is only sold downstairs where there is first come first serve and that reservations are only taken for the upstairs restaurant. Great service but disappointed in the food except for the borj belly and brussel sprout skewers. We also ordered Dynamite chicken wings which were practically raw and had to be sent back. I won't go back again.
Really enjoyed my experience with Izakaya. Went with a group of 8, and the service was the most attentive I have ever received at a large table. The food was unique and exciting. I particularly enjoyed the Tuna Poke, the grilled octopus, and the pork and brussel sprout skewers. I also loved the Cacio e Pepe Udon: It didn't exactly fit with the other cuisine, but it was delicious. Others at my table loved the rice balls.
I would definitely return to Izakaya for a date night or special occasion. The small plates do not disappoint in their originality. Thank you to the lovely and attentive servers for making my friend's birthday great!
Wait staff went out of their way to make it a pleasurable experience. They made the large, overwhelming menu easy to navigate. It’s a great place to be adventureous with you choices because the plates are small so you don’t feel wasteful if you don’t love something (but you will love everything!)
If you to sample innovative Japanese cuisine, we think this is the place. Enoki mushrooms were never better prepared. You need to figure about 4 dishes pp. We had grilled octopus and miso salmon to die for. Onigiri balls were delicious. We cannot wait to return.
As soon as we made it to the top of the stairs my date and I were greeted by friendly staff. Our half Japanese waiter from Jersey took care of us from starting drink selection to picking out the best izakaya on the menu. My date enjoyed the wide variety of Japanese whiskey. We both enjoyed our sampling of various izakaya. Our favorites were the grilled tako, brussel sprouts/pork, onigiri pork stuffed musubi, and the enoki mushrooms (this place is one gem and know how to make this right). We would have loved to stay for more drinks but we had to go to the Wizards game. Check this place out, we made reservations and were seated right away.
Every time I've been to Daikaya izakaya, the experience has been outstanding. The flavor combinations are always surprising, new, and incredible. The meals come in small plates but even then the prices are low - it is easy to make a meal at whatever price-range you're looking for. Highly recommend the fried garlic, grilled avocado, brussels sprouts, and chicken kaarage - UNRIVALED in flavor.
