Dafni Greek Taverna
Romaine, tomato, pepperoncini, feta, onions, cucumbers, dolmades
Grilled Shrimp or Calamari
Not sure what happened to the recent reviewer who complained that portions had gotten smaller and service bad. We had a feast for two last night from 4 appetizers. The service was attentive and friendly - stopped by for brief chats and empty plates never sat for long on the table. They poured our wine for us. By the way, the wine list is very affordable with some nice choices. The real problem with portions is saving room for the baklava, which is a must. This remains a great undiscovered resource for pre-theater.
Amazing food and service!
I have been going to this restaurant many many years, and yesterday was very disappointing. The entries were smaller then usual and the quality of food did not meet the usual standards. The service was absolutely slow, I had to ask to order, ask for a drink basically ask for everything there was no “service”, not to mention dinner took very very long from start to finish. Most importantly I had made a reservation weeks prior with specific directions for my husbands 40th birthday, I even called the day before to make sure that they had a happy birthday desert for him but unfortunately it did not happen. After the overall experience, I didn’t expect it to with everything else not being great. It is sad to say, but I’ve been a loyal customer for years and I think that was my last time coming here. Very sad.
No decafe coffee or tea; no herbal tea. No deserts that were not swimming in carbs or sugar, two of the four were in honey. Not good for a diabetic or someone on the way to one of the news show with no intermission!
Dafni is our pre-theater go to restaurant. They have never failed me: food is excellent; price is right; and they recognize that people need to be in and out to make their Broadway curtains. Love this place!
Pre-theater dinner. Very close to all the shows in theater district. Delicious Greek cuisine. Balkava for desert was fantastic. Best Greek meal we have ever had!
So glad to be back here post covid and that you were still open. ONe of my favorite places before a show. Vegetarian and always have options.
Don't be fooled by the skanky Port Authority street scene - this is some of the best Greek food we've had in NYC, even better than the Greek Restaurants we've eaten at in Astoria!
On a short trip to New York we happened upon this restaurant. It was the last Greek food we have had in a long time.
Impossibly fluffy top layer on moussaka, dressed with a beautiful and tasty olive oil slurry. Just enough lemon on the roasted potatoes. Moist chicken souvlaki. We'll be back!
Great service and food. Great spot for Pre-theater dining.
Food was delicious. Price was very reasonable. We went at an off-hour, but as we were finishing, the place was filling up - sign of a neighborhood gem!
Visited for lunch prior to seeing a show. We dined just after opening and it was a very quiet sitting. I was told by a family member who stayed later that more diners rolled in after 3:00 p.m., which makes sense for the neighborhood (Theater District). The (I’m assuming) owner was a very nice, very friendly gentleman. We all enjoyed our meals very much, though I was disappointed that the vegetarian moussaka was still in the oven and would not be ready in time for me to enjoy at the time we dined at the restaurant. Regardless, the grilled shrimp pita sandwich I opted for was very fresh and tasty. I wouldn’t choose the Greek fries again, personally, but others seemed to enjoy them. The highlight of the meal was the baklava, which was the absolute best baklava I’ve ever tasted. This sentiment was shared by others at the table. I would visit again just for the baklava (and the exceptional service).
The restaurant was very quaint and quiet. The waitress was very attentive and kind. The food was decent.
I made reservations for an early dinner before the Springsteen on Broadway show however there were plenty of seating available at the time. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious and very affordable for being in Midtown.
The restaurant was completely empty and the food was not that great.
Thank you for your comments, your opinion is very valuable to us, and I am sorry for your experience you had. The empty of course we can not do anything because the COVID-19 has left no industry untouched, and the restaurant industry was effected really bad, although we are trying really hard to bring it back. But it will be very important for us if you please let us know what it was you didn't like, to be able to correct it, especially because everything we are cooking is very fresh daily.
We were very glad to be able to finish our day on west 42nd street with a meal at Dafni Greek Tavern. The food was excellent, the service was fantastic. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Excellent food and value, surprising for midtown
This is a hidden gem. The food is excellent and the value is tremendous.
The food was amazing. The servers were very nice. Clean restaurant. Will definitely go back when I return to the city.
Good covid protocols, very good service.
A warm welcoming staff awaits. The menu is varied and the is quite tasty. Brunch is an enjoyable dining experience and service is attentive and commendable.
Great midtown and theater area restaurant. Varied menu of authentic Greek dishes with something for everyone at appealing prices. Crowded and a bit noisy until theater patrons leave then much more relaxed. Staff is attentive and accommodating. We’ve eaten here three times and always enjoyed the experience.
Great food and service, everything fresh, delicious with generous portions. They know how to handle a pre-theater crowd.
Great food and service. If you love Greek food, Dafni is a wonderful find and is a very convenient location to the Theatre District. Great place.
Delicious food, with a great selection.
Wonderful service, good value

Good Ambience, Not expensive, service is little slow if you are coming for a Lunch on a weekday you expect things to serve little quickly
The service awful and the food worse. They could care less. Went pre-theater and food was awful.
I was worried that because of the location, the food would be par and over priced. It was a great meal and service was quick. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
We've been coming here for years. This is our go-to restaurant when seeing a show. Food is delicious, service is spot on. A perennial favorite.
Everything went so smoothly and dinner was delicious
I have been to Greece and I love their food, but my experience at the tavern was disappointing. Food was served cold and the octopus had to be grilled on dirty, burned grill. It was not good at all.
The main dish, sea bass was tasty but served cold. The vegetable that was served with it was not seasoned at all. WILL not go back.
Dessert, traditional Greek walnut cake... had a potential, but it was defiantly not fresh, served straight from a refrigerator, way too cold. And it came with the whip cream from the can.. really Greece people serve it this way??? Overall, very disappointing.
We have been eating at this restaurant for many years. Love their daily soups and fresh fish. However, this visit was one of the worst experiences we have had at any restaurant. After ordering our usual favorites, we waited more than an hour for our food. Other patrons came, were served and left; we sat. We did complain. It did not speed up the service. Our order was our usual. The food, when it came, was delicious. The management barely apologized, made no effort to compensate us as other establishments do. We were surprised at that.
We visited Dafni to celebrate my wife's birthday. Excellent Greek dishes! Fantastic service and experience! We will return.
Fast service and good food. Excellent value
I was so disappointed in the food. The salad was terrible, the lemon soup was enjoyed by my family, the shrimp ok and the gyro was passable. Out of the 5 of us who ate there we were all disappointed and would never recommend the restaurant. Much better Greek style restaurants in the theater district.
The server was lovely and the food come on time.
It was annoying that the server had a few friends at a table and they were using their phones on speaker for some reason or another...not pleasant for other diners.
Food was very tasty. Tight spacing, but typical for times square.
Wonderful experience. Great food and exceptional service. The waiter was perfect - not at all rushed and seemed to know instinctively when we were ready to place our order or needed something. Highly recommend this restaurant.
