da Umberto Ratings and Reviews
excellent food, service, everything - I've been 3 times now and every time has been next-level. The "specials" menu is as long as the normal one and that's the key for ordering - the specials are out of this world delicious. The $ adds up quickly, but you never leave dissatisfied. Would recommend for special occasions.
Thank goodness we have great friends that recommend great restaurants. Thanks to them we've been able to connect with da Umberto a few times and it's a special neighborhood gem. The food is fantastic, the ambiance is very nice and the service is impeccable. There's a good reason that this place has been around for so long.
Da Umberto is a rarity in the city. The best, most authentic food, served with expert knowledge, warmth and graciousness. The staff is fun and so efficient. The food is always delicious. It's a bit expensive, but that's NYC, not the fault of the restaurant! We would recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful meal, no attitude except to please and welcome. Will always come back!
A delicious meal well-prepared and superbly presented. The flattened breaded veal chop parmigiana (a special that night) was magnificent. The grilled octopus appetizer was soft, not chewy, and scrumptous. The super tuscan chosen to accompany our dinner was up to the task and finished with enthusiasm. An energetic, busy restaurant with excellent serving staff.
What an incredible meal! I had the calamari fra diavolo, which was perfectly cooked with a perfect level of heat. The risotto with veal ragu was simply outstanding! We also sampled the truffle mushroom ravioli and the ziti with sausage, and both were fabulous! We will be back to this Italian gem!
da Umberto will never disappoint! Beautiful atmosphere, very attentive service and creative and delicious menu choices. A bit pricey but worth it. It is the perfect setting for special occasions and/or a romantic candlelit dinner. This is one of New York City's finest restaurants!
Dont u hate a restaurant that u have eaten in more than a dozen times in the past year that confirms every reservation, but acts like they never have seen you. They should say hello Mr . Every time we go, they try and gives us the worst seat in the place. Food is very good, after 12 times u think they would thru u a cookie with the check
We love this restaurant and have been there about 10 times. One of the specials was linguini with a cream sauce and white truffles. It would have been right if the waiter bothered to warn us this dish was a whopping $175.00!!!!!!!. I know truffles are expensive but never this crazy and waiters usually bother to tell you the price tag. If we knew we would NOT have gotten it and found something equally delicious on the menu.
Da Umberto! Our new fave rave on 17th street in Manhattan. Great food, terrific service and overall a really well run top shelf Italian bistro type location that feels neighborhood but is really world class. Couldn't rave enough about the food and wine selection and our server Enrico fell in love with us when we told him we'd spent lots of time in Florence. Great spot and we'll be back with an appetite to match the terrific food.
It's white truffle season, so certain dishes can be very "pricey" as they warn you. But it's hard to beat truffles shaved on pasta, so we got the appetizer portion (still $90), and that was perfect. The chicken special was very good, too. Also, they were very accommodating when we complained about the noise level in the back room; they got us a very special -- quiet -- table in the window.
A favorite for many years and never disappoints - I was a regular when I lived in the city and still go back almost every time I visit now. The menu is excellent and numerous daily specials create options for any palate. The bar is great for a meal if alone or I prefer seating in the front half of the restaurant. Service is excellent and wine selection extensive with choices for all wallets.
Da Umbarto did not disappoint with all cylinders firing with regards to food (excellent), service (excellent), and ambiance (excellent). Be advised, you will not get out of the restaurant without spending around $100/person (each of us had an entrée and 2 drinks; one of us had a salad). I'd recommend it for special occasions.
What a rip off! Ordered antipasti for 2 expecting $13/person as listed on menu surprised when charged per piece including $7 for a piece of small shrimp! For main course ordered an appetizer portion of pasta special expecting artichoke ravioli as waiter told us- given truffle pasta but as business meal didn't make scene - charged $75 for the dish!!!! Ended up with $220 bill without tip for 2 people who had a glass of wine and Diet Coke! Was picked because of location between midtown and downtown but waiter took advantage of business lunch and inability to speak up or embarrass my client.
