What Insiders Are Saying
Da Umberto is a classic old-school Italian joint, but without some of the shtick found in other Little Italy joints.
Comfortable and classy but not stuffy. Spaghetti with clams and pancetta and even the humble chicken milanese were outstanding.
truly excellent cuisine. imaginative menu, outstanding wine list though too expensive by the glass - there's no real vin ordinaire while waiting at the bar. but an exciting restaurant.
Great neighborhood find! It was quiet but busy with excellent service and excellent food
One complaint; Waiter should tell you the price of the specials when they are far above the cost of the average entree (i.e. Pasta truffles & Dover sole)
Delicious. After some years away, I returned with family friends who a very special to us. The team, from start to finish, gave superb and warm table service. When people talk about the food for a couple days afterward, you know it's really good.
The grilled octupus was fantastic, the cavatelli was also great and the Napoleon for desert was amazing. Service was excellent as usual.
We were warmly welcomed into this soft attractive restaurant. Everything was placed so well. Even the restrooms was attractive and well kept - a sign a restaurant is in good order. Our waiter presented the specials in such a way, I could just taste them.
Our dishes were all excellent, and can’t wait to return!
Discovered this amazing Italian restaurant minutes from our apartment. Absolutely incredible food. The service was as spot on as the food, we were fortunate to get last-minute reservations as restaurant is extremely popular!
The bartender makes a great drink!
Veal chop was parm was great as was the rigitoni .We also tried the chicken malinese it to was outstanding.
Awesome old school Italian. Top notch service. No trendy decor or loud music- just great food, good wine, and knowledgeable, authentic staff!
Excellent! Just a little bit too noisy but the food made up for it as well as the amicable service.
I have loved this restaurant for many years. And still do. The food ood itself is some of the best in the city.
It’s an above average Italian restaurant in a city that has hundreds of amazing ones. The pasta was good, the veal was good but on the tough side and the drinks were average.
As usual Da Umberto nevers fails to please. I have been eating here for over 20 years. They have a fab wine list and a great selection of daily specials.
We live in the neighborhood, and have enjoyed da Umberto for many years. It had been a while since our last visit, and I was delighted that everything was as perfect as I had remembered it.
This place is OUTSTANDING. Food, service, ambiance, everything! 10/10.
Excellent in every aspect
A secret NYC gem that consistanly delivers outstanding Italian food in a quiet, polished setting.
All the food is outstanding but the pasta, any pasta is a must to order. Well worth the calories & carbs.
Although I enjoyed the dinner I thought the food would be even better
7 of us for dinner to celebrate a birthday. We had the fantastic antipasto for the table which was great. Several folks ordered the orata which was very good, the trout which was lovely and perfectly cooked, and a few of the specials which were terrific.
A hidden gem that's never been on the 'hot list', but is appreciated by celebrities and regular people who want great food without the scene. There's virtually no sign outside, so keep looking, its worth it !
Recommended by friend. Superb. Stunning food.
I would recommend this restaurant to EVERYONE. They took very special care of us and went out of their
way to make us happy.
Staff and food was wonderful, we came a little bit early and they weren't quite ready to open yet; however, we were welcome to sit at the bar and wait until they were fully open. Food was outstanding with beautiful presentation. The staff was knowledgeable and service was timely.
This was a nice meal. All the food was very good and the portions were appropriate for one person. More of a special occasion place because it was on the pricey side.
Glad we went ! Unexpected cozy, classy buzz and welcome. Great service and good food.
Have been coming here for years. Excellent meal. Pretty restaurant and nice bar. Great for dates, special occasions or just a night out.
DaUmberto was recommended to me by a New Yorker...and it definitely lived up to expectations. We have added it to our NYC favorites.
While we celebrate many special occasions here, we also eat here weekly because we love it.
Mushroom appetizer was a bit too salty. Otherwise, food and service was very good.
Food was delicious. The eggplant parmagiana was especially tasty. Service was attentive.
The food was very bland. I ordered a salad and pasta dish that were both specials for the night. The salad had apples that were tasteless and were inaffective in balancing out the bitterness of the blue cheese cream dressing. The pasta I ordered was supposed to have black truffle on it- I could've been fooled as there were none. Truffle is such a distinct smell and taste and this past had neither. I basically had penne with mushrooms.
Amazing dinner !!!! Thank you da umberto
Da Umberto as always, consistently, absolutely wonderful. The environment is warm and welcoming, the wait staff is professional but friendly and extremely helpful, and the food is perfection with an Exciting andinteresting menu and specials.
this is obviously an enjoyable restaurant that pours a lot into its customer satisfaction -- however, there were a few annoyances. the room was extraordinarily loud, and I think I was able to catch only 10% of the specials when our waiter listed them (which by the way took such an extremely long time I was trying not to laugh and I wondered why they didn't just print the specials list... lol). this is definitely one of those places you'll have to shout a little bit to be heard. I ordered the truffle and mushroom pasta special which cost $60 so I was expecting something really special, and ended up with something just meh. i thought the value for what I paid was way too low, but i still enjoyed it.
one last thing that kinda rubbed me the wrong way was how the waiter kept thinking my boyfriend was ordering for me, and would always ask him questions about how the table was doing. that was gross.
on the flip side: the wine was great, appetizers were great, and felt super luxe throughout.
We go to dinner here every year after a business event in the area. The service is always top notch and the food is superb.
The food and service are outstanding. The staff is welcoming, and after one visit, remembered us on the second one (or are very skilled at faking it). I was reluctant to do a review because I don't want too many to discover this hidden gem.
Bring pen/paper to jot down daily specials as they are rattled off in accented Italian.
Delicious food and first class attentive service
Excellent food and service as always. Quality and recommendations by the wait staff always proved to be right on.
the Food and service are outstanding.
they are always on top of their game
this is a lovely place for a quite dinner
