Excellent food as in the past and service was good considering the dining is outside
I do miss the more attentive service when dining inside, but over all still a great
restaurant and a very good wine list.
Everything delicious. Outstanding risotto and tiramisu. Service great. Accommodating to special requests. Lovely quiet atmosphere outdoors.
Excellent food and menu selection -- always executed to perfection
Amazing experience - incredible food and great atmosphere outside
Nice ambiance outside also street is not so noise
Service, food, and wine were all wonderful. Umbrellas and plants gave us some privacy. It was a pleasure.
We thought the food was excellently prepared, with top ingredients. Our filet mignon was well above average. The pasta with clams was fabulous, and even the Cesar salad stood out. Overall, a pricey but satisfying experience.
Outstanding in every regard! We have been very picky on the places we have ventured out for outdoor dining in NYC and felt very comfortable at Da Umberto and the food and cocktails and wine were as good as we remembered!
Great food and specials. Very pleasant wait staff. Glad to be there
Service was great. Dinner delicious . All very well organized and pleasant with social distancing outdoor dining . Thank you!
Very attentive service - Elegant classic Italian food. Good wine list. Excellent for a special evening. The "costoletta elefante" veal chop founded very thin and breaded with super sweet tomatoes and arugula is my favorite. The mushroom and polenta appetizer is to die for. Of course, all the homemade pastas are always terrific. We've been coming for four years and it never disappoints. It's always popular, for good reason.
The wait staff and owner all very friend
The food absolutely 5 star!!
What a delicious meal !!
Service excellent !!
Great out door dining
Our favorite place
Great experience and great social distancing set up. Highly recommend.
It felt great to get out and eat in a restaurant.
Good the pasta
It’s fabulous and for me, a pasta snob, to say that it’s a lot
The outdoor dining is comfortable. Staff were attentive and friendly. Food was excellent. We ordered 3 specials, one appetizer and two entrees that weren't on the menu and all were great. We'll be back.
Best food in NYC!
I enjoyed the outdoor cafe. I was seated in the side street part with less hubbub than the avenue portion. I gave information on my pepper allergy and was pleased that Italian pasta dishes were served adhering to it. The powers that be were very nice and seemed genuinely interested in making the experience delightful.
Still a neighborhood gem for delicious Italian food. Highly recommend it.
Impeccable service. Every morsel of food melted in one’s mouth. Polenta with mushrooms was outstanding. My grilled mixed seafood was cooked to perfection. The table spacing was perfect. Everyone felt well fed and safe.
We got an early 5.30 table for my son’s birthday and while seated under the outdoor umbrellas - torrential thunder storms started.. the staff proceeded to put up barriers and while getting a little wet we enjoyed an amazing meal with fantastic service and attention....!!
So happy to be back at Da Umberto! The staff did a phenomenal job of making us feel safe and welcomed. The outdoor dining that they have set up is really beautiful. We honestly felt like we were dining at an outdoor Paris cafe. The food as always was splendid. Thank you Da Umberto! So happy you are back!
Always fantastic food and great service. One of the best values in fine Italian dining! Never disappoints in any way
Quiet outdoor setting plus great service plus the usual great food equals a pleasant evening.
They made the outdoor space beautiful and inviting. You thought you were eating inside with their crisp white tablecloths and lanterns.
Food is always delicious and service impeccable
They did great job for outdoor dining. Very comfortable and classy looking. It was just unfortunate that they n this particular night there was loud street construction right next to tables. It was after 6 but didn’t stop. NOT restaurants fault and I’m sure they’re down bui it sure Put a damper on an otherwise beautiful even good.
Absolutely excellent outdoor dining experience. Great food, impeccable service, good ambiance.
Love this place. I’ve been three times and it never disappoints
Good food, real Italian restaurant with good service and nice wine.
Lovely restaurant but noise level makes it difficult to enjoy the meal. Had not been for a number of years. The place is getting a bit shabby. Needs a facelift.
This restaurant is still my favorite of all time.
Is this the beginning of the end for da Umberto? I've gone there about once a year for the past decade and it's been consistently very good to excellent every time until this week. On past visits, even Italian friends of mine with high standards have agreed that the place was top quality and authentic. But this week's meal was mediocre at best. The arugula salad: uninspired, with mealy, juiceless apple slices, hard-to-detect dressing and a shave of pecorino dead-cold from the refrigerator. My chicken breasts: overcooked and napped with a wine sauce that can only be described as sour. The brussels sprouts: hard, underdone, not sufficiently charred. My wife's carpaccio looked very good but her penne with eggplant tasted not much better than we could do at home. The only salvation was the biscotti with our coffee: spiced like a panforte, they were amazing. I fear that the kitchen has lost interest in excellence, and that often spells the beginning of the end. Or maybe it was just a bad day -- however, I'm not interested in finding out. There are too many other good places to eat.
Service was really awful. Rushed, rude, careless.
We haven’t been here for several years but decided to celebrate a special event with family members on Saturday night. It was a wonderful evening- excellent food, professional and attentive service. We will be back soon.
It is as close to eating in Italy as you can get! The food and service are especially fabulous.
We were seated at a table in the corner by the kitchen. It was loud and cramped. The service was extremely slow. I had the caprese salad which was bland and I had to ask for balsamic. There was no offer of freshly ground pepper and I could not get the waiters attention so gave up. The 2nd course was a split of pasta with mushrooms and black truffle and it was also kind of bland. They should have added heavy cream and cheese to the recipe - to make it much more flavorful. Again no fresh pepper was offered and the waiters were too busy to flag down. The fish was ok — white fish and veggies —served table-side with a brush of herbed oil when served. Needed more than a brush of the oil. Should have had had a sauce. The grilled veggies next to the fish were delicious. We had a nice time but very slow service and did not walk away feeling that satisfied by the overall experience.
We go to Da Umberto every year for a girl’s get together after one of our yearly industry events. The food is always outstanding and they have a great selection of wine. The service is always top notch.
The food was ok. We orderd the specials: Orata and Swordfish ended up on the quite expensive side for what it was $38 per dish. Swordfish was a small piece.Ambiance is nice. My husband had been there many years ago and thought it was fun to try it again.
But we will not go back. The reason why I will send in a message to the restaurant.
