Da Umberto is a classic old-school Italian joint, but without some of the shtick found in other Little Italy joints.
Fabulous service, great food
We loved our table . Waiter was most accommodating and knowledgeable regarding menu and wine list. Staff was attentive and polite. Food was excellent, as usual. This was a birthday celebration and the birthday boy was extremely pleased. We highly recommend!!
Our family of 8 celebrated a milestone birthday dinner. We couldn't have chosen a more fabulous restaurant. The food was exquisite-truly authentic cuisine. From the appetizers to the amazing dinner each of us had I wouldn't be able to choose a 'favorite'! The service was outstanding and a special thanks to Eric for the attentive service, choosing our wine and making the evening so memorable! It was a very special evening and we'll always remember da Umberto!! Thank you!
Our experience at Da Umberto was, again, superb. Warm reception (probably our fifth or sixth supper at this restaurant over probably six or seven years -- hardly regulars!), perfectly paced and attentive, but never intrusive, impeccable service by several staff. excellent preparation of each of our courses, which included one daily special appetizer and one daily special entree, two standbys and a shared fresh fruit dessert with whipped cream that was the best ever. A perfect double espresso. Two best in class non-alcoholic cocktails for an abstinent couple in a festive mood. Could not possibly have been better.
Excellent service and food was delicious. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return.
The food was outstanding and the service excellent. This is a lovely restaurant with old world charm. When ordering specials, patrons should be aware that the cost can get very high. The experience is worth it, but this is not a place for a regular, not special night out, at least not for most people.
The sense arrival was great. They were expecting us. Seated quickly and the service was spot on. They even made a special meal for us that wasn’t on the menu as they had the ingredients. My wife and I both had it. The meals were all delicious as were the apps. Sufficnet wine list. We had an excellent bottle of Brunello. Thank you very much for the hospitality and delicious food.
The staff is courteous, the food is wonderful and the tables were far enough apart to get a good business meeting underway. I will come again and again as I have in the past.
Hadn’t been here for many years after having been a regular here many years ago. Not good as as I had remembered it. Nothing bad, but nothing great either. Very expensive . Too many other good Italian rest in nyc to make this my regular go to spot again.
It was good until we got the bill. we were talked into the antipasto appetizer for the table which was good however it was $150 for 4 people. Outrageous given there was no indication from waiter or menu it would be that expensive- $37.50pp- more than entrees. I thought it was just greedy and inappropriate
Great place for our family to get together and have good conversation with good food. Service is very attentive and nice wines.
Always a fabulous meal
I had been to Da Umberto many years ago, and the food was much better.
Granted I went on a busy Friday night, but my food arrived at the table lukewarm -- even the espresso for dessert was lukewarm. I had the pasta appetizer special and the Dover sole, which were unremarkable.
The restaurant is pricey, and I expected more.
I think Da Umberto needs to step up their game.
I've been going here for years and it is always consistantly excellent.
It is a little pricey but is well worth it with consistently great food and service.
One of my favorite NYC Italian go-to spots. Reliably excellent choices, good service, nice atmosphere and comfortable yet good for special occasions.
Excellent food and service, but prices were shocking to out of town guests.
Lamb special mediocre, other dishes tasty but pasta, fish and lamb served lukewarm to cool. Disappointing as prior outing was excellent.
excellent food, service, everything - I've been 3 times now and every time has been next-level. The "specials" menu is as long as the normal one and that's the key for ordering - the specials are out of this world delicious. The $ adds up quickly, but you never leave dissatisfied. Would recommend for special occasions.
Da Umberto did it again. Great food, top notch service and wonderful ambiance. My favorite restaurant in a city of restaurants.
This used to be a great restaurant, now it's average and expensive.
Always a wonderful meal!! The restaurant has been around for years and still just as good. They are very accommodating to any dietary needs. Good service, great ambiance!
Always fabulous on every level!
Excellent food and excellent service as always!!! Love this place!
Chic atmosphere and lovely food. Very good service. The rigatoni was a bit ordinary for the price $27 but the assorted vegetables, octopus and spaghetti vongole were very good. It was a bit noisy for such an elegant restaurant but very good for a splurge.
Thank goodness we have great friends that recommend great restaurants. Thanks to them we've been able to connect with da Umberto a few times and it's a special neighborhood gem. The food is fantastic, the ambiance is very nice and the service is impeccable. There's a good reason that this place has been around for so long.
Da Umberto is a rarity in the city. The best, most authentic food, served with expert knowledge, warmth and graciousness. The staff is fun and so efficient. The food is always delicious. It's a bit expensive, but that's NYC, not the fault of the restaurant! We would recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful meal, no attitude except to please and welcome. Will always come back!
The food is very good but beware of the antipasto bar. We didn’t understand how it worked and that appetizer cost us $135 for the four of us. The waiter didn’t enlighten us either. Rushed us to order and then practically disappeared.
A true 5 star Italian restaurant...
We loved our artichoke ravioli and our veal Milanese. Wine was chosen nicely and the desserts were incredible - highly recommend the tiramisu
A delicious meal well-prepared and superbly presented. The flattened breaded veal chop parmigiana (a special that night) was magnificent. The grilled octopus appetizer was soft, not chewy, and scrumptous. The super tuscan chosen to accompany our dinner was up to the task and finished with enthusiasm. An energetic, busy restaurant with excellent serving staff.
Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan. The cavatelli can't be beat. A seat at the bar always offers an outstanding experience.
What an incredible meal! I had the calamari fra diavolo, which was perfectly cooked with a perfect level of heat. The risotto with veal ragu was simply outstanding! We also sampled the truffle mushroom ravioli and the ziti with sausage, and both were fabulous! We will be back to this Italian gem!
da Umberto will never disappoint! Beautiful atmosphere, very attentive service and creative and delicious menu choices. A bit pricey but worth it. It is the perfect setting for special occasions and/or a romantic candlelit dinner. This is one of New York City's finest restaurants!
The food is consistently inspired and beyond delicious - my most recent guests included someone from Bologna, Italy and even he was impressed with the authenticity of the cooking. Charming wait staff and a cozy environment completes the experience.
very good but VERY expensive. was surprised by the bill and we eat at the finest restaurants.
So many specials, definitely pay attention! We had to ask them to repeat a few before we ordered. It can be a bit loud and we were at a big table, so it was a bit difficult to hear others.
Thank you for the friendly and attentive service, and for accommodating gluten allergy. It was the perfect place to celebrate a big 60th birthday. Thank you!
