Our go to for the most reliably delicious meal around!
Amazing service with excellent wine by the glass, and inspired, authentic dishes. Quality and liveliness in everything they do. You can trust you're in for an excellent meal at Da Umberto.
Pasta was good swordfish was drowned in balsamic reduction
Could not even taste fish. After service staff disappeared left me hanging for 20 minutes plus. I had to use my phone to call the restaurant to ask for my check I’ll never go back way too many good Italian restaurants ok nyc
Its pricey but a great meal. One of New York's best kept secrets.
Fantastic experience. Just as we remembered.
We had Florentine steak for two. The best steak ever including the big time steak houses in the city. Amazing food and service. Loved it
We go to this restaurant regularly. We are welcomed as if we are visiting relatives in their home. It is a warm and personal atmosphere. We've never had a bad meal, sometimes it's hard to choose what to have as everything is so good. There is a reason this restaurant has been there as long as it has.
Easy parking right in front!
Flawless old-school Italian cuisine. Most restaurants around this long get stale, but not da Umberto. There are no new ideas on the plate here, and when the food is this perfect, you don"t need them. Great wine list, impeccable service. I could eat here every night.
Intimate, softly lit old school Italian restaurant. Waiters were attentive and handled everything with precision and care. Food was outstanding! Even though we sat next to a large table celebrating a birthday, it never felt loud or intrusive. Loved it.
One word: phenomenal!
Consistently amazing food, excellent staff, wonderful ambiance. Feels like you're in Italy.
Was a special occasion and our big party(9!) was handled great!!! Large Roy d table perfect for interacting and sharing — food, as always excellent
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We always love going to Da Umberto.
Don’t tell anyone how great this place is. SHhhhhhhh!
We had a lovely experience at da Umberto. The service was impeccable and old world. The staff was very accommodating to food preferences. I had a delicious half portion of rigatoni with sausage and peas to start and Dover Sole as entree. Both perfectly prepared. I would definitely come back.
Always a great experience. Consistent. Since it opened many years ago.
Service was amazing...food outstanding! I would absolutely go back...great pre theater dinner.
Long time neighborhood Italian restaurant with Italian staff. Tasty menu with tons of specials everyday (listen carefully and pay attention). They make their own desserts as well. Liked everything I've tried so far and will always be our go to Italian restaurant.
I’ve been here probably a dozen times total, but this was the first time back in a couple of years (just moved back to the city). It seems louder than it had been before, but perhaps that perception was exacerbated by the overall experience.
The waitstaff seemed less attentive than on previous visits and markedly snootier.
We ordered a four course meal with a bottle of wine, the expectations were fairly high—albeit reasonable.
Sadly, for us, water refills were slow and we mostly had to refill our own wine glasses. The table was cleared in a haphazard way—leaving things behind that should have been. The specials that night were a bit of a miss. My entree was cold and dry.
I don’t think we need return—when you’re paying more than $300 for a dinner for two the food should be delicious and service should be at least minimally acceptable.
My husband and I visit this restaurant frequently and we always have a great experience. One of our favorites!
Excellent food and wine selection. Great service. Quaint venue that is a little noisy.
Another outstanding meal and experience, thank you!
What a fabulous restaurant! Everything about it was GREAT !!
Delish! Shared Antipasto Grilled Veggies,Eggplant Penne, and Veal Medallions.
Old School and consistent. Nice Bolgheri wine.
Our suggestion would either the owner or landlord change the entrance facade. Not engaging.
My favorite Italian restaurant in NYC
Food was ok
Dover sole was bland /small
Would not go back
I always enjoy Da Umberto. The service, ambience and the food is always great. I have now celebrated my birthday this year twice at Da Umberto. Both times it was wonderful.
Our favorite restaurant in NYC! Such a great hidden gem. Ambience is intimate, food is superb, and the service is always top notch!
Enjoyed the food and the service. We’ve been there several times .
Food here is always fresh and tasty. Pastas are prepared "al dente" and their veal dishes are simple yet delicious. Others at the table had salad & baked fish saying it was really nice. As mentioned in other reviews, waiters up-sold the specials but we didn't have wine so no price-gouge there. Was my 10th or so visit and lived up to my memories.
Myself and my husband took our nephew and his fiancé out to celebrate their engagement. I was the only who had previously been to Da’Umberto and suggested it. Although it was a few years ago I remembered the food and service was very good. We were not disappointed. Everything was fabulous and we will certainly go back.
Order off the menu and you will have the best bet! Been there so many times and never read the menu.
Just amazing classic Italian
Everything was extraordinary, including the prices! But the cost was well worth it.
The noise level is too much to have a conversation. The Food is excellent as is the service.
This is a wonderful and very authentic Italian restaurant. The quality is outstanding every time we go and the wait staff is very professional, making everyone feel special. The wine list is outstanding and moderately priced (mainly Italian although we ordered a DuMol Syrah from California the other night which was exceptional). I think they have the best veal in the city but my husband is crazy for their filet mignon. They do full and half portions of the pasta dishes which is a plus if you want to try several dishes.
One of the best meals we’ve had. Ermal was a great waiter and incredibly knowledgeable. Will be back
Highlights: Food was quite good. App's were good, we had burrata and spicy calamari. Entre's very good. Had the hen and the salmon (both off menu). Wiater was average. Hard to understand and so busy reciting specials (too many) that he was not engaged with us. Decor is average. I would gladly go back if invited but not a "must go back" experience.
Great service. Quick. Food was excellent everyone loved the meals.
Beet salad (a special) had four teeny tiny beets. Sausage ragu pasta was delicious. Salmon was too salty. Martini had visible ice chips. We asked for a wine list but waiter insisted on telling us (more like aggressively selling us) his red wine by the glass choices, even though one glass was $44 and we wanted white, so we passed. The specials are expensive -- be sure to ask the prices when the waiter recites them. The front room (by the bar) is noisy, with the tables by the wall very close together. We eat out in the neighborhood often and we've been to Da Umberto at least twice before; we were underwhelmed by the cuisine all three times. Will not be back.
The food, service and ambience at Da Umberto is superb. Every dish was perfectly seasoned, with interesting flavors and combinations. It was a fabulous dining experience.
