Da Silvano - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We arrived early fir our reservation and were taken to a table without actually checking our name. The table was jammed next to the overcrowded coat rack. I spent the night having to move or getting wacked in the head while I was eating by moving coats. We asked to be moved to no avail.
The rapine and sausage was good as was the carpaccio. Not great but good.
The penne sauteed with lamb sauce("baked all day until incredibly tender ") had three tiny pieces of lamb the size of a small finger nail and there was no sauce. Just almost dry pasta with dried sauce flavour.
The taglierini had sauce and was good, not great but exceptional compared to the penne.
When we received bread which we had to request, it was received after the appetizers and the requested olive oil was plunked on the table after we finished the entire meal and the bread plates removed.
We requested water without ice 3 times before we received it midway through the meal.
The 4 oz serving of cabernet was decent but nit $16 glass of 4 oz wine in such a mediocre venue.
Da Silvano is a favorite neighborhood gem that always lives up to my memories and expectations. The food is great and the service is friendly, professional and accommodating. It always has a happy ambiance which makes it a great place for a special occasion, a friends night out or a date.
linguine w/clams had the perfect mix of flavors, veal chop was juicy and coconut sorbet were all tremendous!
the sauce over the mussels was drinkable!
service was a bit slow to start, but quickly turned into a team of great servers that engaged, laughed and didnt even ask if we wanted more bread, they just brought it!
i have wanted to try this place for years and will be back on my next trip!
Pancho was our Server and he is fantastic. Definitely the reason to go and go back. He makes sure everything is perfecto for the guest, especially the preparation and quality of the food. Top 1,2, or 3 Italian spot in the city because of his attention to detail at the table and in the kitchen.
The food was delivered to the table fast and it was good. However, for an Italian restaurant, I expected better quality of food and bread should be a must. But, food failed short. What really made the biggest difference was the service. It was mediocre and inattentive. The servers did not come to the table to check on us or on how the food was. They would awkward pass by the table but, don't ask how things were or check on the water. The music didn't match the Italian ambience (club music).
What an amazing Italian restaurant! Silvano never fails to deliver delicious food! The menu changes so there is always something new. The gnocchi literally melts in your mouth - best I have ever had! This is authentic, delicious food at reasonable prices. Service is very attentive. Ask for suggestions from your waiter. Every time I come to NYC, I make sure to go here! Thanks, Da Silvano!!
Cheap, old and used look of environment inside and specially outside. The waiter was ok, but forgot our wine, that was of course on the check finally. Portions are big but do not look tasty and don't taste. There was actually any flavor missing.
We were just happy to leave as soon as possible and for sure do not come back.
A Saturday lunch after the theatre. Sit inside in comfort and watch the street scene and outside diners. We had all appetizers: carpaccio, french beans with cranberry beans, artichokes, strecchi con Amatricina, with a bottle of Pinot Grigio and Vin Santo for dessert. Old school, old world, super fresh. Big, busy, but still very sweet. Not cheap, as it should be.
We had a strange experience especially since we are long time New Yorkers . The waiter brought vegetables . We said we didn't order it . He said " it's ok". After our main course they asked if we were having dessert and we said no . Then they gave us each a dessert plate and came with two desserts - one with a candle in it . They must have overheard us saying happy birthday to my cousin who was with us . We assumed the dessert was gratis . Imagine our surprise and dismay when we got the bill and we were charged for both the vegetable and desserts we didn't order . We didn't want to make a scene in front of our guests so I waited until the next day to call . The managerial duty at the time of my call said I should see him when I come next time but I'm not sure there will be a next time
Always a pleasure to eat at Da Silvano.
Everyone is unfailingly cordial.
Service was friendly and unobtrusive.
We lingered for two hours without once
feeling rushed. This is probably my 20th
visit in the past ten years. I will try to
remember to go more often. Very easy
trip on #1 train from Columbus Circle
which is close to where I live.
Da Silvano has lost its luster. We waited 30 minutes past our reservation to be seated. Had to beg the waiter for water, share plates etc. They offered us glasses of wine to compensate for our wait and then charged us for them when the bill came! The only thing our waiter was attentive about was asking incessantly if we wanted more wine so he could hike up the price of our meal. When we asked for recommendations, he listed to top 3 most expensive things on the menu. When the food came, it was fine, but not great. I left feeling totally ripped of. You won't catch me there again anytime soon!
