Da Mimmo Finest Italian Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
The food was good, but it was overpriced ($22.75 for lasagna, $4.00 PER SHRIMP to add it to fettucine alfredo). The service was good, the ambiance warm and charming, and the menu varied enough to cover pasta, chicken, veal, and beef. Da Mimmo is a Baltimore institution, and a must-do if you're checking off your "old school Little Italy restaurants" list, but be prepared to pay for the experience.
With all of the new restaurants that have opened or are opening in Baltimore, Da Mimmo is a hidden gem that folks need to get back to. The food is spectacular, the service is incredible and the overall feeling of a genuine appreciation that you're there is one you don't get in a lot of places. My advice to those looking for a either a special night out or just want to go and get a wonderful, authentic meal, or want to sit in a cozy lounge with music, don't get caught up with the "shiny new object" of the latest place opening. Get over to Da Mimmo see for yourself why they've been around so long, and are a longtime favorite of many. Great job to the owner, Mary Ann Cricchio and her dedicated staff. I can't wait to get back.
First of all, if you are looking for trendy food or decor, don't eat here. I laugh every time I read a review of an "old-school" place that whines about it being... old-school. We just like good food, and Da Mimmo still does a great job in that regard, but their service has slipped considerably. On both of my previous visits (once with my husband, once with my best friend) I felt genuine warmth from the staff as well as pride in their work. This time around, our server was standing at the door when I walked in and asked very gruffly "Are you with the party?" I replied no and said my husband was parking the car, so he asked again "ARE you with the PARTY?" Apparently a large group had rented the upstairs dining room, but not the best way to greet a guest. Our table was in the main dining area and was fine until a couple of larger parties came in and proceeded to shout over one another for much of our meal. During dinner, I had a lot to tell my husband as I'd just come back from a trip, but our server proceeded to interrupt me mid-word at least five times. His demeanor throughout the meal was very condescending and it seemed he couldn't wait to get rid of us. Given that our tab (1 salad, 1 order of calamari, 1 frutti di mare, 1 swordfish special, 1 moderately-priced bottle of wine, and 1 after-dinner drink for each of us) came to $237 before tip, we'd hoped to be treated a bit more graciously. We might give Da Mimmo another chance, but it will be a while before we do so.
Dinner was fabulous we were seated in a quiet corner table by. The window, food was outstanding, highly recommend the veal chop and lobster, we had dessert downstairs at the piano bar, fabulous ambiance, friendly family run restaurant with excellent food and outstanding service.
We arrived early and had a drink in the cocktail lounge. We were pleasantly surprised to find a woman singing and playing the piano which we thoroughly enjoyed. We even went back after dinner and had a drink and listened some more. Excellent spot in Little Italy and we especially love it because they have their own parking lot located conveniently across the street.
We had a wonderful meal. I'm sorry we ordered the clams casino. It was the only part of the meal we did not really enjoy. They should remove it from the menu. Next time I will try the open faced ravioli - it comes highly recommended as we found out after the meal. We will definitely go back again. The veal chop is delicious and huge. It was way too much for 1 person.
DA MIMMO IS CONSISTENTLY UNPARALLELED FOR ITALIAN FOOD IN THE BALTIMORE /WASHINGTON AREA . FOOD, SERVICE AND ATMOSPHERE IS EXCEPTIONAL. OUR FAMILY REQUESTED TO EAT HERE EACH TIME THEY VISIT. THIS IS THEIR FOURTH TRIP AND THEY ARE ALREADY SAYING TO MAKE ANOTHER RESERVATION NEXT TIME THEY COME TO MARYLAND.
This is a better than you'd expect for the Italian Section of BMore. Loved this place. Crabmeat cocktail appetizer still served in glass 2 piece bowl and cup with a live goldfish in the bowl. That's a favorite touch that I remember from years ago. Traditional menu - all well done. Wine list is appropriate for the venue - not too pricey and not too arduous to get through. Enjoy this place!
The atmosphere and service could be the poorest all of us have ever experienced! The hostess and the waiter seemed to have some tension between them. The hostess was pleasant to us, however, the waiter was terrible. Very short in temperament,
would not smile, he rushed us,
Reached over us to give cheese and pepper to the others at our table and was quite rude. We would never recommend this restaurant. The prices were outrageous and every item
was ala carte. Terrible experience for all of us
There were 8 of us celebrating 3 birthdays. It was restaurant week in Baltimore. 6 of us ordered off of the restaurant week menu. The portions were ridiculously small. I had eggplant parmigiana. 2 thin slices of eggplant drowning in sauce. 2 ordered off regular menu. One was good. One was terrible. We all left hungry. Would not recommend to anyone. The hostess was very nice. Made sure we had candles for birthdays. Waiter was inattentive. Never asked if we wanted more drinks or how everything was.
Came for restaurant week, and had one of the best meals we have had! Their calamari was tender and the marinara sauce, excellent. Their signature veal chop was quite generous, plated with broccoli, and was outstanding and the zabaglione, a perfect ending to a sumptuous meal!
Excellent service and a delightful evening.
This place emphasis quantity over quality. My veal chop was grossly offensive because it was so large. Two huge chops on top of each other, enough food to feed four. It's sad that the size of the dish could not have been smaller & reduce the price accordingly. Also the lobster tail was bland and not tasty. Will not eat here again and cannot recommend this restaurant!!
The food was excellent as advertised, but be careful, the specials are easily twice the price of the regular menu items, and if you don't asked, you will get a shocker of a bill. My fruitti de mare, while excellent, was $50!! for a smallish portion. My wife ordered chilean sea bass, $48. I'm not cheap and will happily spend $100 on food, but the cost of the specials was certainly out of line with the rest of the menu. Would go back again, but definately ask the server the prices of the specials
