da Filippo Autentica Cucina Italiana Ratings and Reviews
Used Open Table to find a restaurant in Somerville. da Filippo Autentica was selected based on reviews. We did not know what to expect. We are so happy that we chose this restaurant. It is "warm" and very comfortable. The hostess (owner) is friendly, conversational and her background is interesting and made us feel at home. The menu is extensive, creative and authentic. Everything is cooked to perfection, with what I can only describe as love. This is a new favorite restaurant, well worth the 30 minute drive. Oh, and her husband, who is the chef, later came out and played the piano.
Food was disappointing after all the hype we had heard about the restaurant. Wine was apparently self serve (unlike any other BYOB in the area) and the service was so slow it lead us to believe our order had been forgotten. Would not recommend.
Filippo never ceases to amaze. I’ve had dinner there many times over the years and always ask for the tasting menu. Filippo creates and cooks a five course meal that he thinks you will enjoy. I have never had the same meal twice! The other night he created two entirely new dishes that were spectacular!!! Always excellent!
da Filippo Autentica Cucina Italiana is superb! The owners interact with guests as if you were in their own kitchen. The hospitality is warm, the food is delicious and it's a bring your own. The restaurant has its own parking lot behind the building. It is just outside the main area of downtown Somerville. Prices are a little high but the quality is worth it.
What a fantastic experience at da Filippo! The food was excellent. The owners were unbelievably welcoming and accommodating. After we realized it BYOB, Filippo actually ran out to get us a couple of bottles of wine. Now, that's service! Looks like a perfect for everything from a business dinner to a dinner with old friends to a romantic date. The octopus appetizer was unbelievable and the risotto had homemade sausage that was amazing. We'll definitely go back!
Our first time and we will be back! The food was fresh and delicious. The service was attentive and timely. The owner and his wife are very friendly. Each of the 5 of us enyoyed our entrees and the bruschetta appetizer was fantastic. We brought our own wine . Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Food was excellent - shrimp on cabbage, ravioli pomodoro, flounder, and saltimbocca. Service not so - 'family' seemed to be uncertain of who was doing what. We sat down at 7:30 and other than bread, water and our wine, saw no food until 8:30. Excuses made - 'it's coming', 'we're busy' (place half-full), 'got orders confused'. Not so charming when you've got to wait and wait and wait...
If you want to try an excellent dish, order the Fregula. Very tasty. My husband orders the veal (always) and thoroughly enjoys it. For dessert, we share a dish of profiteroles (two each) and the only reason we share is to watch calories. They are delicious! I always start with the mixed salad, which has a delightful and unique taste. As always, a wonderful dining experience.
This restaurant is our special place. We always have great food and the owners are wonderful. I had a special, orechiette, which featured the tastiest sauce. We always save room for dessert, which is always terrific. My husband had a veal dish and he said it was fantastic, as always. We love dining at da Filippo's.
I have been coming to Filippo's for over 20 years and it continues to be delightful and one of my favorite places for a either a romantic dinner or even a group dinner. The service was attentive, the food spectacular and the atmosphere is very warm. I almost always get fish here but this time tried the night's dinner special (porchetta) and it was spectacular. Somerville has a lot of variety and good places to eat but to me Filippo's truly stands out as the best.
We came to this restaurant for Mother's Day and the food was outstanding! We were warmly greeted upon our entrance and sincerely thanked when we left. There were unique dishes and it was obvious that all food was fresh, including the bread, which we were told is made on site. Definitely worth a visit!
Da Filippo's is our favorite upscale Italian restaurant. Fiiippo and his wife Berte are warm and gracious hosts. The dishes are always well prepared with fresh ingredients. The atmosphere in the restaurant is intimate and cozy. We've enjoyed every meal there.
da Filippo's is one of my favorite go-to local restaurants. You are welcomed as a member of the family as soon as you walk through the door usually by Bertie, the wife of Filippo, who remembers you and what you talked about every time you return. The food is consistently good, with our favorites being the rustichella, batter dipped arugula, and saffron risotto with sweet pork sausage and parmigiano reggiano cheese. A surprise item on the menu is the delicious beef stew and my partner claims their panna cotta is the best outside of Italy. Wait staff is very attentive and it is a BYOB establishment. If you are lucky Filippo may come out and play and sing at the piano. Overall, a consistently good restaurant.
