Attention to detail and fine cooking make this a special place.
We had a wonderful family get-together. Filippo greeted us when we came in andt he food was excellent, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming.
Had a wonderful and special evening including great music and singing! Would love to dine here again!
A wonderful dining experience as always. I had the pork scallopini which was outstanding. I had the cabbage and shrimp appetizer, which is a favorite of mine. The service was terrific, the owners are friendly and never fail to acknowledge us. They even have great coffee and I couldn't pass up the profiterole, which is delicious. If you haven't tried this restaurant, I highly recommend it.
After having dined here many times, I must say that this restaurant in quite consistent. Food is always wonderful, service always spot on and Bertie and Filippo are always the most charming and welcoming hosts. I’ve been here as part of a large group, or as a party of 2, and we are always warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. You can’t go wrong at Da Fillippo.
Outstanding food and service. First time visit and already planning a return trip. A great menu, not your usual Italian pasta menu.
Very good food. Nice touch the owners greet you at the door
Great and personable
Really great experience. The food was very good and the atmosphere was amazing. Small place with lots of charm. The chef and his wife are great hosts. The menu is limited, but oh well.
I have met my sister at Da Filippo twice in the last year as a half-way meeting point for dinner. This is your classic hidden treasure, a place with low street appeal, but warm, charming and a great dining experience inside. The staff, owner/chef and family welcome you and care for you attentively. The chef came by a couple of times to check on us, and also sat at the piano and played and sang a few songs! Great BYOB place, I WILL be back!
This is always a fantastic dining experience. Food is always good, the owners are very friendly and always accommodating. We love when the owner is finished with his duties in the kitchen and comes out and plays a few tunes on the piano. It's like being in their living room and dining with old friends. We highly recommend this restaurant
Great food, owner is from Sicily, nice ambiance.
Really authentic, friendly, warm and welcoming. Great and genuine Italian food. The menu is small, but absolutely excellent.
This place is actually a bit of a find. You won't be disappointed. Just note that it's BYO, so make sure you have your wine with you!
The menu is extremely limited. I assume that they augment this with specials, but by the time of our reservation at 8:30, they were all out of every special. Then they lost our ticket so our waitress had to take our order a second time and our meal was delayed. Meanwhile, the owner's wife walked by right after her and lied, telling us our food was on the way and would be here in one minute. She clearly didn't know what was going on in the kitchen. Overall, the ambiance was nice and the food was good, but not great. For $20, I expect raviolis to be amazing.
Take a pass and dine at one of the many awesome Italian restaurants in the area!! We arrived at our reservation time, and although there were plenty of open tables, we were made to wait while the hostess fumbled with their reservation system. Service was slow. I asked if the veal saltimbocca could be made with chicken, the server responded “sometimes the chef will substitute, but let me see if he’s in the mood”. She came back and said no, he is not in the mood!! Ok, ordered anyway. The dish had 3 small thin medallions that were so over cooked they curled up. The sauce tasted good, but the oil separated on the plate and the whole thing did not look appealing. Two others at the table ordered the risotto. They said it was just ok. It was served in a white dish with what looked like a plop of plain looking risotto and did not look appetizing. It didnt even have a garnish to brighten the dish. Hadn’t been ther in 15 years and know I know why.
I have been to going to da Filippo's for the past 20+ years. The menu is short, but everything is great. Starters to dessert.
Try any of the special's the Filippo has constructed for the day.
On weekday nights, you may be treated to song and music played by the chef himself!
The food was excellent, service very good, and ambiance was perfect.
Never had a disappointing meal at DaFilippp’s
Great Food and pleasant atmosphere. Loved the Homey feel
Wonderful warm hospitality. Authentic cuisine. We will return!
My wife and I always enjoy our meals at Filippos--warm, congenial hosts who make you feel like family; quiet, cozy atmosphere; and delicious, well-prepared upscale Italian cuisine.
Great food and owners are great people. Always a pleasure to eat here.
The restaurant, chef, menu and the food were outstanding. I will return.
I am sorry to write such a negative review, but I really think I need to counter the many way-over-the-top positive reviews for da Filippo. The food was edible at best - we found the octopus and snails (normally, two of our favorites) to be very undesirable and the service was barely proficient. It seems that a lovely family owns the restaurant and we are always looking for that type of family-inspired atmosphere and food. Honestly, we were shocked and disappointed at the quality of the food. Maybe they are living on past glory. Very sorry.
This was our second time at Filippo's. My wife and I had gone before and had the tasting menu. It was great. The food was fresh and delicious and the service attentive and charming. This last evening we brought our son and his fiance. They live in the area and had never been before. We had a delicious delightful dinner and filippo's has two more customers. Thank you for a great meal and a wonderful evening.
Excellent food, ambiance and a very amiable Filippo. He makes you feel that he is happy you are there eating his food. The young hostess can use some of his amiability, actually a lot more. She had no warmth and looked frightened most of the time.
Excellent menu, well executed. Warm, welcoming feeling from the owners who are the chef and hostess.
Absolute gem. Excellent authentic Italian food served by the owners. I have been here twice and will be back any time I am in Somerville area. Bravo!!
Excellent food, though the portions were small. 2 apps, 2 dinners and tip $90. I don’t mind those prices if I’m getting good portions. Overall very pleased 🤗
Our dinner party traveled from NY, PA and the Jersey shore to meet for dinner. We did not know it was a BYOB and so the owner/chef personally went to the liquor store and bought us a bottle of prosecco per our request. Outstanding service, great food (ravioli was excellent). Definitely recommend!
Another wonderful dining experience as per usual! We love this place. We usually come for date night but we brought my parents who were visiting from out of town. They loved it too!
Great food, intimate atmosphere, warm and wonderful hosts!
Somerville’s best restaurant period.
Been there once before. Such a nice place to go for dinner. Food is very good. Owners are so delightful. You will not be disappointed
Excellent menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our entrees and appetizers.
Came highly recommended by local Italian families and it turned out to be wildly underwhelming.
We had a terrific dinner at da Filippo. The fried arugula appetizer was particularly good.
We really enjoyed our meal and the restaurant in general! It was not busy as several people had canceled reservations due to a snow storm. This being said, we expected the service to be 100%. They forgot one of our appetizers and the waitress apologized and said it was her mistake. We really enjoyed the meal! We give the food 5+ Stars and the ambiance the same BUT the service could have been a touch better. We would definitely return. The price was right and we always love BYOs because our wine is affordable!!
