Cypress Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Excellent food, great quality, and fabulous drinks. I hate to see it close but in had a fabulous last brunch there with a girlfriend on Sunday. We shared the famous burger, bloody Mary's, mimosas and finally the deliciously pot de creme. All well worth the time and money spent!
While the food was great we had a bad experience with the wait time. We made reservations for a particular time, we arrived mayber ten minutes early and was not properly greeted. The person at the front station simply overlooked our standing there. After about a ten minute wait he returned with a seemingly carefree approach. We were asked to sit outside where there is smoking ( horrible). The manager approached with a menu offering drinks, she left and returned nearly 25 minutes later with no drinks. We did not get seated until nearly 40 minutes AFTER our reservations. The food was really good but the lead up was horrible.
Nice atmosphere and pretty place, but a fair amount of gristle in the porterhouse, and food served quickly, before we got our cocktails. When we asked if they could withhold the food so we could have our cocktails first, they said of course but sounded put upon rather than apologetic.
I am also impressed by the level of service at any of Michael Schwartz's restaurants, but Cypress Tavern was especially attentive to my food restrictions during my last dining visit. The staff was very knowledgeable and the food was delicious. Add amazing cocktails and it was a perfect evening.
Getting right to the point....the roast/grilled leg of lamb for 2 was GENIUS.
Delicious. Tender. Not at all fatty. Best leg of lamb anywhere. THANK YOU.
Service is professional, courteous, friendly, helpful. Lovely atmosphere. Personally, I really like the low lighting.
Everything was perfect.
awesome neighborhood gem. One of Michael Scwartz (Michael's Genuine, Harry's Pizza, etc...) places. Location not as obvious so I think it gets overlooked, but food, service, cocktails, etc all amazing. They change their menu a good bit so always interesting new things to try. Awesome spot for dinner AND Brunch. Brunch Saturday and Sunday....little secret Saturday is a Jazz Brunch with a 2 person....very cool chill live jazz.
This is our new neighborhood spot! The food is outstanding and the service even better. We sat outside and never felt ignored which is rare when there are only a few tables outside. The hostess is awesome and Megan, our server, was attentive, knowledgeable and very sweet. We will be back weekly to try everything on the menu eventually.
We were really looking forward to this dining experience. We have eaten at Michael's Genuine several times and never had a bad meal. The atmosphere was great and the staff was very friendly and attentive, however, the pacing of the meal was off…way off. We were there early on a Wednesday evening, so it was not crowded. It took over an hour from the time we ordered until we got our entree and sides (the very good Zac's sourdough saved the day). Inexcusable. The special porterhouse looked great and was served pre-cut for easy consumption…we thought. The steak was one big piece of gristle. It was actually quite embarrassing, having to put half-chewed "meat" back onto the plate. I have, on occasion, had a tough piece of strip steak, but even the filet portion contained inedible gristle. That was a first. Don't think I would go back and I certainly could not recommend it to anyone.
I come to Miami once a year from Seattle, and dinner at The Cypress Tavern is a pleasure I never miss. The graciousness and professionalism of the staff, plus the remarkable cuisine prepared with taste and authority, remain beyond compare. My favorite restaurant in the world.
Cypress Tavern was discovered during "Restaurant Week" last August, and I have been dying to go back ever since. The restaurant located in the "Design District" provides an excellent time to try some very unique and interesting tastes. The cocktails are interesting and varied as well as an ample wine list. The menu is truly the reason to be visiting this very unique and beautiful restaurant with a warm cozy atmosphere as well as the wait staff. The chef has provided a truly exclusive and varied menu. The restaurant is a wonderful place for dinner following a matinee at the Adrienne Arsht Performing Arts Center. They open at 6:00.
Fantastic restaurant. Second time there. Equally great experience both times. I will go any and every time I am in the Miami area. The staff is lovely, bright and welcoming. The food quality is excellent. The ambiance well considered and inviting. It's a restaurant that once you enter, you don't want the experience to end.
i thought this is the worse of all the michael schwartz restaurants. i happen to love michaels genuine and harrys pizzeria. we go to those all the time.
i found the menu very restrictive here . nothing was exciting.
my appetizer salad was so bland that now that i got the questionnaire i do not even remember what salad i ordered. now my main course i do. i ordered the " rotisserie" lamb. it was found $50 and not worthy . i could not see what it looked like, but it tasted very short ribs style. more like a pot roast . i did not care for it. my husband had the bucatini which i think is served very similarly at michaels restaurant and my friends wife did it too. my friends husband had the 1/2 chicken and as far as i could see , quite mediocre presentation and size.
we decided to order coffee, and deserts were not exciting .
restaurant hostess then approaches us an tell us that she would like to buy us dessert if we move to a table to the outside since she has a big group and she needed out table. this is 1.30 minutes after we sat down. at that point my friends husband and my husband got irate, they refused the offer and the coffee we had just ordered and we asked for the check and we left , so she could have our table. i would not recommend this restaurant for picky eaters and if you want to get thrown out right after your meal because they need your table.
I received an email newsletter from Cypress that advertised their Wednesday 32 oz Porterhouse special (thru March). It was Wednesday, so guess what - I made an OpenTable reservation & Barb & I went with a friend. I believe we were the first diners to get the Porterhouse which was cooked perfectly. Nice light smokey flavor, very tender, & moist. It comes pre-sliced which also prevents over cooking when resting. Only very slight drawback was that it was a little bit over salted - Barb is sensitive but I love salt since I work outdoors. Our friend opted for the rack of lamb - two beautiful double chops - again cooked perfectly. He said he would take home what he couldn't eat. The only thing that left was our T-bone bone for his Rottie. Desert? Everyone said no -- well, we ordered 2 of the chocolate pot de creme - bowls the size of a 8 or 10 shot expresso with a solid slug of thick, creamy, sugar-coated sugar-shocker chocolate. NOTE - the kitchen probably didn't have to wash those bowls -- our fingers did the trick because we thought it inappropriate to lick them out. We will definitely go back!!
Everything was great from the bartender, Jordan, the hostess Gigi and our waitress Marcelle and of course the food, wine and drinks. We had the oysters which tasted like the sea, the beef short ribs and veal cheeks which were outstanding and we couldn't pass up the chocolate pot de crème. The wine suggestions by Marcelle were perfect with our oysters and entrees. We were at this restaurant when it was the Cypress Room - also fabulous.
