Cygnus 27 Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time to Cygnus. I have severe food allergies and the knowledge of the staff was wonderful. Our server (I think her name was Anna??) She was excellent! Every one was so friendly and professional. I was able to dine with peace if mind that the kitchen staff understood my restrictions and took every precaution they could. I had no problems at all! Thank you!
We have eaten at Cygnus several times since the current South American influenced menu came in, and everything we've ordered has been good or excellent. The menu is creative, and has a lot of interesting tapas selections which make it easy to put together a small or full meal with plenty of variety. Seafood dishes, which can easily be overcooked, are consistently well prepared. The service is excellent, as is the view. The only issue we have is the absence of draft beer. In Beer City USA, with all of its wonderful craft beers, they can do better. The wine lists is not enormous, but the selections are well chosen. Serious food people will like Cygnus, as will people who just want a good meal. The prices are consistent with other upscale restaurants in the area, and actually better than those at Ruth's Chris Steak House downstairs.
I've been many times for drinks with friends and family. The view is like no other. This was my first dining experience here. While the menu looks unique and exciting, the output wasn't the best fit for us. I will try this again but, I suggest other proceed carefully.
We enjoyed Seared Diver Scallops and Paella Mixta main plates and found both to be delicious. The chocolate sphere was one of the best desert experiences anywhere. Our server was very good and attentive to our needs. A visit from the General Manager to check on our dining experience was appreciated. What a great panoramic view of GR city lights from the 27th floor of the Amway Grand. We will definitely return.
Restraunt wait staff and food was good...ambiance is not really there...80's type feel, needs contemporary updating...not romantic at all...if your looking for a casual dining experience it is decent environment but overpriced for casual dining...bar does not have a blender...upon reservation about a week In advance i asked for window table, upon arrival I was told that they have to save window tables for 4 top reservation holders ...we were sat in an undesirable location while several 4 top tables next to windows sat vacant throughout our dinner...my reservation was for 2 just to clarify...overall for the price there were several other restraunts that would be better suited for date night, romantic evening...if yur out with a friend or colleuge and want to overpay for a casual dining experience then it would be good...
The staff was friendly and helpful, the décor - lovely, the noise level - very high. The members of my party who had wine were very pleased. One person was disappointed because here filet was just pink and not rare but she ate it with pleasure. My paella was dry and disappointing. It was a busy evening so I understand the difficulty of preparation for a large group. For the price of the dinner however, I expected more perfection.
We had a fantastic meal at Cygnus 27. The food was delicious but the best part was our server, Carmen. She provided excellent recommendations for our food and for the accompanying wine. She was attentive to all our needs, but not overbearing. Request one of her tables if you can :)
Almost the entire menu was gluten free which is very important to us as we have a family member with Celiac disease. Eating gluten free doesn't mean you have to sacrifice any wonderfully flavored food.
We will definitely be back to enjoy the food, the service, and the scenic view.
Exceptional service and great view and atmosphere adorn the top of the Amway Grand Plaza. Cygnus hosted our daughter's reception dinner and it was outstanding. This was an opportunity to simply enjoy dinner out and we were not disappointed. Anna our server was tremendous. The entire staff remembered our September reception and made us feel so welcome. This is one of Grand Rapids, Michigan's finest restaurants.
Cygnus 27 is an outstanding dining experience. We always enjoy it. It makes any evening special. The service, the food, the view all spell first class. All aspects are excellent but we especially appreciate the great service that starts the minute you walk in. Our server was Carmen and she was excellent. Attentive, professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. Will return often.
Enjoyed a wonderful evening at Cygnus with my wife after a work Christmas party (before heading home to our 3 boys). It is one of our favourite places downtown. The food was stellar - just had a few appetizers the yellowtail ceviche and Spanish octopus! dessert was amazing as well, the Tarta De Limon. Also enjoyed one of the best Old Fashioneds I have ever had. The service by Carmen was top notch. We will be back soon.
1st course cerviche was excellent. Mains were OK. Fairly good selection of wines, although some were a bit overpriced, even for eating out. Noise level tended toward high, but we've been to some that were higher and now avoid those.
A pleasant night out and look forward to their remodel that may quiet the place down a bit.
We had a friendly, well informed waitress. Food presentation was wonderful. We were celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary and we were given a nice table by the window with beautiful views. The one thing we would suggest is more times between appetizers; salad/soup, entree and after dinner dessert, cocktails, coffee. While we weren’t rushed to leave our table it felt just a bit rushed in between courses. Nothing serious as we had a wonderful time and enjoyed our night.
Everything about Cygnus 27 was Amazing! The calamari was fantastic. The dinner portions were perfect to feel satisfied but not stuffed. Our party of six had a quiet nook where we enjoyed superb service and a beautiful view. The vast number of gluten free items on the menu not only made dining that much better, but shows that fresh ingredients without fillers are used to create their dishes. We will definitely return and recommend Cygnus to others!
Most of the food was good, except for the pasta which was completely congealed and tasteless. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. Ambiance was lacking due to a silent background. Also to a heater issue they had which resulted in blowing cold air on us for the entire evening (on a frigid November night).
Considering the cost and the issues, it didn't seem worth it overall. We will definitely think twice about returning.
