Our menu's main attraction is the dry aged USDA prime beef, aged and butchered in-house by our own exacting specifications. From our menu, savour a dry-aged New York Striploin, delicious Paradise Farm's Rib-eye, local tenderloin or Wagyu beef all cooked to your specifications. Finish off with an amazing sampling of fine cheeses, a specialty liqueur and a decadent dessert. Downstairs, SHUCK Seafood + Raw Bar features a seafood market with a wide selection of Nova Scotia product delivered daily. The servers were attentive and knowledgeable. The steaks were great, caesar and apps were perfect but the sides were just OK. The lobster risotto entree and forest mushrooms side dish were both over salted and the roasted squash was served in the rind and tasted nice but looked unappealing. The creme brulee arrived unbaked. As in raw. It was totally liquid under the caramelized crust. If I had realized I would have sent it back, but when they said it was liquid I thought that they meant that it was just not totally firm, more creamy than jelled but they actually meant it was completely liquid. The petit fours plate was lovely , very impressive in both presentation and taste. A round table would have much improved the experience as it was difficult to socialize at the long ( but elegant) configuration.
My husband has been to Cut several times. He recommended it to me and we had a lovely romantic meal there. It was a Sunday night and was very quiet with Jazz music in the background. The ambiance was amazing, the loveliest place I have been in the evening. The service was lovely, with wine decanted on a table with a candle at your table. I would recommend this as a romantic restaurant with amazing food.
Excellent ceasar salad, with dressing made table-side, the best I’ve had and I ate every bit. Lots of flavor and spice, so delicious! Also excellent rib-eye steak, and lobster - mushroom risotto. Great service! Loved it and will be back next time we come to Halifax!
I had not heard much about this restaurant before I went. Overall the food was top notch. My steak (14oz Ribeye) melted like butter in the mouth. Perfectly cooked.
Be prepared and don't be shocked by the prices, without even getting to the wagyu beef, you can expect dinner to run upwards of $75 per person. Steaks are presented without sides so add a starch and "enhancement" to the meal. The staff is very helpful in guiding your choice.
All in all this is a special occasion kind of place, the price (for me anyway) would keep me from coming for any other reason.
Overall we had a good experience at The Cut. My Husbands sirloin was not as good as previous visits, but still good. My Lobster Rissoto was very rich but tasty. The dessert was definitely the least satisfactory part, but we are chocoholics and we chose the 5 samplers when we should have ordered the Cake. That's on us. The ambiance was ok, apart from hearing the staffs conversations at the bar, which we were sat in front of. I was hoping for a more private seat as requested in the reservation.
Have had great dining experiences in the past here but this time was let down. Service was non-existent at times. Had to top up our own wine glasses and water glasses only refilled when we asked. Empty plates left on table much too long after it was obvious that we were finished eating. Everyone's steaks/main course arrived together but side dishes were slow to arrive. By the time the sides got passed around and we were ready to eat, my steak was cold.
Overall, a disappointing experience, especially when I know it can be better.
Our last night of vacation in the maritime provinces, and wanted a splurge dinner. Asked around Halifax and Cut came coming up. Booked on Open Table.
Classy surroundings, knowledgeable staff, food was very good, but not exceptional.
The real rub was with the staff. First waiter was very knowledgeable, but came accross condescending. He explained we'd have 2 wait staff seeing to our needs. Food and wine arrived promptly, at first. As the restaurant became busier service became less than stellar. We noticed our original waiter was waiting on others, making no attempt to acknowlege us. New waiter never introduced himself or explained he would be assuming responsibilities for our table. \
Overall the food was very good, but not great. A good server would have totally turned it around. Let's just say we won't be returning, or recommending it to others.
Everything was mostly good except the steak, the reason we were there. It was cooked correct but the boneless ribeye was flavourless. It didn't have hardly any char on them at all. The first thing I noticed was my steak wasn't cut evenly. The rest of our food was really good. Service was great. Oh yes I almost forgot. The vegetable special was fried cauliflower. I couldn't eat it at all. It was bitter and oily.
Well the atmosphere was very plesent.The staff was most attenative and plesent.The wine was great.Ordered a 8oz. striploin,the mushrooms, and friets.The steak was overcooked for med. rare.The mushrooms where great,and the friets were not crisp on the outside,and seemed to absord the oil they were cooked in.Desert was creme brulee,which had a hint of banana in the custard,and the caramelized sugar on top was just the right thickness.
Being already 17 years in our summer home near Hfx, we first were invited for steaks to Run Duffy ( spring garden Rd). That was the ( high) level until they moved.
Three years ago we thought about the CUT... an were disappointed concerning service and the meat.
Now: service very good, the Cesar's salad excellent and the steaks too.
Great wine list and the barkeeper knows how to make a vodka martini ( most think that's easy, but a dry one isn 't.
We come back within the next 20 days....
