Currant American Brasserie Ratings and Reviews
Took my kids to this restaurant while I was on a business trip. The meal was good but unremarkable. I had risotto and my kids ordered pasta. It was a bit away from the convention center. There were no cabs in sight on the ride back, so we had to call Uber. While this restaurant was not bad in any way, I wouldn't go back.
Overall the food was good, but I was charged full price for my hamburger during happy hour. The drinks were good, but the bartender was sick - coughing and didn't wash his hand prior to putting ice into my glass or muddling the mint. He wasn't very friendly either even though the bar wasn't too busy.
Always a great experience at Currant, and always great service. We come here for a sophisticated, yet affordable family brunch, and for date nights. If you love French and if you love New Orleans, you'll love this place (note it's French cuisine, not creole, but the bigness really do Nola justice!)
Went with a large group for Sunday brunch. Loved the decorations and ambience. Great table in the dining room by the doors that opened onto the patio. I had the Farmers Skillet and it was so delicious. We also ordered beignets with Nutella dipping sauce. The sauce was amazing! If you're with a group that likes mimosas, I recommend getting a carafe. It was plenty for four of us and we loved that the orange juice came separately so you can add as much or as little as you want. I loved the bar area. I want to go back for drinks!
I was pleased to have a nice lunch for my friend's birthday. The place was about empty which I think helped the service, which is notoriously slow. I think they need to keep up on their menu, to provide more variety, since there are no very many choices. I don't think they should do the popcorn at lunch - better for happy hour.
Staff had no clue about wine list and I am no wine snob, but literally no clue. Wine recommendation they gave was already sold out and no knowledge of anything to recommend beyond that.
Service was sincere and attentive and had huge potential, just not trained on finer points fundamental in dining. Not my full time job my guess.
Food was good and honest value. Steak was good which I rarely say when I eat out. Simple, no nonsense, for the spoiled guy who eats out way too much. Memorable.
I think I was in a great lunch spot that is not set up for dinner so much.
It was quiet and I liked that too btw.
Excellent and convenient for pre-theater dinner. The food is just OK, not bad but not memorable. However, the ambience and convenience for the theater, including the inexpensive valet parking is well worth the trip. I will certainly go there again pre or post theater.
Once again for lunch. Once again above average for lunch. Had ahi sandwich with fries. Fries very good. Ahi sandwich very good, but seperate the insides from the bun and you got a good meal. Too much bread overpowers the fillings. Service good untill the end with the wait for the bill. Salads for others at the table were very good. Slightley pricy.
OK this place has the best Wedge Salad on the Planet!!!! The Fennel Sausage is also in the "to die for" category.
We stayed at the hotel and tried the restaurant and loved it. A month or so later when we were in San Diego at another hotel 5 blocks away we decided to return. You will love the food!!!!
I had just a few hours in San Diego and was looking for a place to have a quick dinner. Went here because the name caught my fancy and it was near my hotel. Everything about this place was just okay. I liked the look of the place; nice decor and atmosphere. Didn't have much interaction with the staff but they were friendly enough and professional. I ordered the mushroom rigatoni. It was good; quite tasty but too salty. I also ordered the thyme fries which I understood was one of their specialties. It was disappointing. Not bad but the thyme flavor just didn't go very well with the fries.
Great place for our Girls' Night Out! Start at Currant for drinks and dinner before heading to the theatre. The menu is diverse enough for those that want a small bite, salad, pasta dish or their fabulous burger! Service is always friendly & prompt! Definitely will return!!!
It was almost like we were invisible to our waiter. We waited forever to be greeted, forever to get our drinks, forever to order food, forever for the food to arrive, then we had to track him down twice for our bill. I might have been understanding if it was busy, but there were plenty of empty tables and a number of other servers, assistants, and bussers. This was our first visit to this restaurant, and needless to say our last.
