About Cupping Room Cafe
The Cupping Room Café was established in 1977. It was originally a wholesale coffee establishment. Different blends of coffee were brewed and tasted by perspective customers. This act of blending and tasting different coffees is called cupping - hence the name The Cupping Room. The coffee tasting went so well that the owners decided to change the name from The Coffee Connection to The Cupping Room Café. They also decided to open the back of the store and sell coffee and pie to the local artists. The building hosting The Cupping Room is a landmark building. It was the first "tall" building in SoHo and is more than 100 years old. The high tin ceilings, hard wood floors, pot-belly stove and exposed brick walls are all part of the original setting. The Cupping Room was a home for artists and locals. Today it is still a neighborhood place where you can see the locals and the famous come together in our homey environment.

Cupping Room Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Great place, lotta fun staff was very nice, took a long time for the food to come out. We were in no rush though, the waitress recognize this on her own and brought us a complimentary pastry which was delicious, you would think that on a Sunday at 11:30 in the morning that would be enough staff for a brunch, overall I liked it and would come back
Service was horrible. Took 1 hour just to get cappuccinos. And 1.5 hours for our food. Waiter never came back to offer more coffee.
Food was average and 2 out of our eight dishes were cold!
The restaurant itself was cold and drafty. Not warm and cozy at all. Had to eat with coats on.
Would not recommend this place. The city has far better options to choose from.
I met my two girlfriends here, one was visiting from Florida. We had a reservation for 10am and were seated right away. That was when all service ended. We literally sat for 45 minutes without a server coming over to us, not even to give us coffee. I had to get up and go over and find someone to take our coffee orders and then our breakfast orders. Thankfully we were so happy to see one another since we don't get to but once a year, that we didn't become rude or nasty. However, the service was atrocious. The worst service the three of us have ever experienced in NYC.
the host seemed to not care about anyone who had a reservation. we went the previous year and had no issues or no wait. overheard another couple who was having a similar issue and had to wait even though they had a reservation. the food was great so it made up for the first part
Food was just ok. Nothing wrong with the restaurant but I’ve been to better. Food presentation was lacking. Taste, ok, nothing special. Waited awhile for our drinks but the bar was not busy. Just not a good or bad experience but expected more from a place in SoHo, so slightly disappointed and will not return when there are better places to attend.
We've been to the Cupping Room several times, almost always for brunch. My husband is an omelette connoisseur - he orders them everywhere we go and this is consistently his favorite! He calls it the "best omelette anywhere, period". The Cupping Room is cozy, comfortable, and delicious every time, and the staff is always pleasant and accommodating. Definitely one of our favorite NY restaurants.
The food and service was good, my only complaint was that my associate found a fragment of what looked to be steel wool used to clean grills, pots and pans on her salad. Thank god she didnt swallow, but the waitress had that meal comped and offered to replace for a new salad. So I feel that was handled well.
We’ve been coming here for brunch for quite some time. It took over 20 min to get our bloody Mary’s. Our server seemed very annoyed that we didn’t want to order brunch til we got our drinks.
We both ordered Eggs Benedict. They were cold. Cold eggs, cold sauce The only hot thing on the plate was the French fries.
Very disappointed in one of our favorite brunch places in Soho
Extremely disappointing. This was our first visit to the restaurant. Had previously read some good things which is baffling because the food is mediocre at best. We were there for lunch. My companion ordered a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. How hard is it to screw that up. Not very, evidently. It was tasteless and stale. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich. Pretty much the same situation. I had to keep pouring table salt (which I don’t even use) on the sandwich to try to flavor it, to no avail. It tasted like it had been lying around or had been frozen and reheated.
I don’t want to disparage the service however, which was fine. It’s unfortunate that the food was so awful. Will not be returning.
Ahi tuna salad- the tuna was chewy, muddy brown in the middle...sent it back and ordered turkey andouille soup and carrot cake...both were really good! It was my birthday and I was
disappointed at first- ended well. Wait person was very sweet, gave me extra strawberries and was apologetic about the service. Not planning on going back.
The interior was tasteful and clean, and the waiters very accommodating.
The food was OK, but somewhat overcooked. Medium burger was past well-done, and the french fries were dark brown and crunchy. Very good frozen lemonade with mint and honey.
The biggest disappointment was Bloody Marys : too much ice, little spice , very bland
Cupping Room gets surprisingly high reviews and I can guess it is not for food quality but for the warm neighborhood vibe.
The food was surprisingly horrible. I can’t recall ever saying I’ve had a horrible meal in NYC until now.
If you enjoy open mic night in a warm neighborhood atmosphere, you won’t be disappointed. Eat before you go!
Went there for brunch. Food very good except for the waffle, which somehow was rubbery. Eggs, though, were fine. Chicken sausage was awesome! One of us ordered sourdough, and the waiter brought whole wheat by mistake. He addressed the situation by asking if whole wheat was OK, with body language suggesting that he did not want to bring the correct item.
Had a wonderful breakfast at the Cupped by room. We sat at one of the entrances facing the street, it was sprinkling outside and this was a perfect place to sit and enjoy a meal as the rain passed by. It was perfect for an intimate breakfast with my wife. We enjoyed a couple omelettes which were healthy portions. We also had some coffee and mimosas. It was a great experience and would definitely return. The street view was one of my favorite parts.
