The pizza was very good and so was the pasta dishes. However, the service was very poor and the waitress made mistakes on our order and never even bother to check if the food was good.
I've been here before and went back knowing they offer a bit of solitude in the Union Square area. A business lunch with two colleagues, service was excellent even when one arrived quite a bit late.
Menu a bit limited, but the different dishes we ordered were all quite good. The Caesar salad was one of the best I've ever had.
My only gripe was that they were using only one small corner of the seating area with all guests crammed in shoulder to shoulder. It would have been nice to spread out a bit.
Will undoubtedly return.
Not too happy with carbonara spaghetti - sticky - raw egg on top - generous with bacon but not a good dish overall. Wait staff was good .
My wife and I had lunch at Cupola while shopping at the mall. Nice environment, good choice of salads and pizzas. We really enjoyed the margherita pizza and the dome salad, as well as the flavored Italian sodas. My only complaint is the service - our waitress absolutely disappeared before we finished and we could not find to request our check and pay for lunch. After waiting more than 10 minutes, we finally flagged down the manager who was able to take care of it.
I haven't been here for a few years and I'm saddened to see the quality and service at such a low level. When I first ate here a few years ago, I was impressed by the quality of "mall" food. The food this time wasn't bad per se, the margherita pizza was actually pretty good, but the quality of service was so terrible that it dragged the whole experience down to food court level. I hope they do not train their waiters to ask if people want their check when they are obviously not done... if they want to leave the check, just say, "i'll leave this here, but no rush" then at least I believe them. But if you are passive aggressively rushing your table then by all means do not fail to deliver on a requested extra glass three times -- requested of 3 different people. I don't mind having as many people as you want to service your table, but you better make sure that the service is impeccable. Also, don't pretend that you aren't rushing your table and then serve the 2nd course and main almost as soon as you serve your first course... Either do not pretend to be an upscale restaurant and charge less than $50 for a dinner without drinks, or make a little effort to train your service people better. I wanted something a little more special, Cupola did not deliver.
I picked the restaurant to have pizza and red wine with my mom. I liked its location and the interior of the restaurant. We ordered warm pulled-to-order mozzarella, couple dome salad and margherita, as well as red wine. We loved the salad! However, about the mozzarella, we thought that it was smaller and thinner than we expected, and the taste was kind of plain. Anyway, thank you for the nice dinner! We enjoyed the tasty wine and pizza at that night!
Food was fair. We had an assortment of pizzas which were all good. We had polenta fries which were way too salty, and charred calamari which we would have preferred fried.
Service was definitely lacking from the moment our group of 8 sat down. We ordered a bottle of Barbera wine and originally they mistook our order and brought a single glass of wine. When we informed them of the error, they returned the glass to the bar, at which we spied the bartender downing the whole as in two large gulps! When the bottle finally arrived, the waiter didn't know how to use the bottle opener!
It was early for dinner so service should not have been an issue as not as many diners. There seemed confusion on who would be our server to begin with. Luckily we advised them we were on a time limit and asked that all food be brought at same time, which they complied with.
All in all it was disappointing. There are many other choices of places we could go and probably will do so in future.
Their kale salad is one of our favorites. The mixture of baby kale with pistachios and currants add the texture and a little sweetness but it's the citrus that makes the salad for us. Their pizzas are great too!
The expectation of dining with friends was heightened by the delightful atmosphere, and then reality. Service was not bad, it was ok. The mushrooms were from a can, which took away from a very good pizza dough. The Latté was cold, yes cold, disappointingly cold! The second one was slightly warm, and once again disappointing. Then the server got mad as she explained that lattes are always cold.
I may have even rated this place too high. I can't wait to I not go back here.
Cupola is my favorite place to dine when I'm at the Westfield Shopping Center. I love the pizza. The thin crust is crispy and chewy at the same time. Go for the Brussel sprouts which is seasonal. The poached eggs on top gives them a silky texture.
Dome salad was terrible. Dried bits of vegetables without any hint of dressing. Was it forgotten? What a dome of disappointment. Calamari appetizer was served lukewarm. Beef pasta was a bit better but portion was small and served on a appetizer plate to make it look larger. Pizza was the best of the above. If you must come, order pizza and axe out the others...
Cupola is in the Westfield shopping center, downtown S.F. Good Italian food. We like their wood fired pizzas, Polenta fries, and the Squid ink pasta.
Central location for family with easy access Bart and great family friendly food. Happy hour pizzas all around. Great wine list and beers on tap for the adults. Fun spot to meet
We went with a group of 6 before the theater. It was still Happy Hour and we got our pizzas for half-price. I would go back again.
Food is good. Menu items seem to change a bit. We ordered the calamari small plate and it was quite different from the last time we ordered it. My husband really enjoys the tuna Panini but that wasn't on the menu this time. Service can be a little uneven.
I chose Cupola because five diverse old friends were getting together. Different tastes. Some drink; some don't. Some are watching their budgets. Cupola had something for all of us and did not break the bank.
This was my 3rd of 4th visit, and I've always been happy.
We went to this place to carb load the night before the race. The food was delicious! And service was great I will for sure come back. P.S the bread there is addictive! Lol

I've dined here many times. Today we had the baby kale salad which is very good. The arriabata pizza is spicy but today the chef had a too heavy hand with the chili peppers. We love spicy but this was ridiculous today. But we'll be back again.
Colleague and I stopped by and had a pepperoni pizza and the bucatini. Good thing the staff put the pizza on a perforated metal tray OVER a plate - there was so much grease, it pooled in the plate! The Buccatini was cooked with way too much oil making it slippery and it splattered everyone around the table. Why?
On other visits, these problems did not exist.
Let's not be too harsh, it does the job if you are spending the afternoon shopping in downtown SF and it would be a good one with young kids but that's its level. Clean and well presented but don't imagine you will get "ambience". The pizzas are OK although not thin enough crust for my European palate (still they are better than most Chicagoan flan muck). The wine (an Umbrian red) was surprisingly good (but please note for the menu, it is not a Tuscan blend!) . The service was comical. It started off being average (although I loathe the US style "hey guys" and reciting the specials like some kind of party trick so I was blessedly spared that; for the kind of place it was I had no issue). The manageress then picked up that as a single male dining on a Saturday afternoon, I might be some kind of restaurant critic (which I'm not but suddenly thinking I should change career to). Out of the corner of my eye the conversation to the staff wasn't even subtle. Suddenly the service came full on, topping my wine up (no one else got this) and cringe worthy obsequiousness. The coup de grace was the manageress personally going round and checking on every table to see they were OK but really obviously failing to make eye contact with the customers (making everyone feel as if she really cared then). She then proceeded to scoff her lunch (something the pizza chef had knocked up I guess) very visibly standing at the service counter (yes, I know you've got to eat, I've been there as a catering manager, but for pity's sake make it subtle). I felt very sympathetic for the waiting staff after that and so did tip them properly, I cannot imagine having that as a boss (David Brent of restaurant management). Bottom line - I'm not expecting Michelin starred food or service but on the service side just be straight and honest (if you really view the customers with contempt, don't let it show quite so obviously). On a separate point: the table stands for serving the pizza are much too high.
I'm surprised that such a mediocre restaurant has managed to stay open for so long. The interior is uncomfortable and poorly-laid out. The service was atrocious -- cocktails arrived long after the main dishes arrived, water only came because I finally went to the bar. The food, especially the pizza, was bland. The pasta was oily and overcooked. There are many other better restaurants in the mall, including its immediate neighbors on the fourth level of the mall. I definitely won't be back.
another great experience at Cupola. We always do the festa and are never sorely disappointed. This time the pasta selection was not too exciting but not a mood killer. The rest of the meal made up for the dip in flavor.
Reservation was for after a movie at 9pm. However, the staff rushed us to finish our meal, since they were closing. If they can't stay open late, then they shouldn't have late reservations.
i couldn't believe how good the pizza was. We are from LA visiting and ate there twice in two days! Also the baby kale salad was also exceptional.
Good but not the best diner we ever had. Rather on the expensive side. The water we requested never found the way to our table.
WE have gone here several times before or after a movie. The ambiance is very good, they offer gluten free options and the service is excellent.
This time the food was disappointing. The gluten free rigatoni was way too al dente. (I like regular al dente, but his was very hard and chewy.) My daughter and partner were not thrilled either. It was all ok, good, but not up to our prior meals there.
Went with a group of 5 for our lunch in between our meeting. We were seated promptly. We ordered and our salads came soon afterwards. Our pizzas, nothing special, took a very long time especially since it was not busy. Maybe their pastas would better option. Service was ok not special.
We come here quite often on our trips to SF because it is convenient when shopping in Union Square and its just plain good. It's a place my family and friends look forward to eating at. They always accommodate our children with a great attitude and we all enjoy it.
Food is very good. Calamari appetizer is excellent. Ahi tuna sandwich and kale salad are very good. Service is spotty. The hostess took our order and did very well; there seemed to be only one waitress for the whole restaurant. Maybe the restaurant was short of staff that day. There didn't seem to be anyone bussing tables.
