"Cuoco" is the Italian word for "cook," and the inspiration for showing off our chefs in an open kitchen. The pasta work station is framed in crisp white tile and surrounded by warm gold and red walls. In addition to the featured fresh pastas, there are savory vegetables and other hearty entrees, created by our chef Matt Fortner. Semi private and private dining options are available to accommodate 12-24 guests.

I went with a group of 8, so had a chance to sample a few different items off the menu. The service and cocktails were both excellent. The burrata app was a tiny portion lost on a largely empty plate, tasted so-so and over priced for what you got. the focaccia was excellent. we tried four of the pasta dishes and all were quite salty, the carbonara in particular was barely edible. to the server's credit, this was removed from the bill. The branzino whole fish and NY strip steak entrees were terrific.
Servers and hostess were very friendly. The wine we ordered was excellent. Food was long in coming. Everything alcarte including bread, or at least we weren’t served any. Pasta portions, except for the lasagne, were small. The portion of cod I ordered was small and it and the veggies were extremely salty. Parking convenient and validated.
just awful night with service. food was decent. nothing i would miss or want to come back for on flavors. cheap noodles for campanelle, smallest version of a buratta salad.
service was some of the worst. auto service charge has changed the game. server gets commission for nothing. came by took our order, brought our drinks and dropped off food. when i did need to ask for something i had flag him down.
most Italians will use bread to soak up the sauce from the pasta dish. not recommended here. 6 dollars for a small loaf. gotta be kidding me, right. well 3 times staff tried to bus my plate away while waiting. not once did they refill my water glass or offer me another drink.
not worth it, sorry mr douglas, but this isnt the right way to run a restaurant. i have never felt so cheated at a restaurant before.
All the food was amazing. We went for happy hour and tried most of the things on the happy hour menu, plus one or two of the restaurant week specials. Plus three desserts. Every single thing was amazing. The staff was super friendly. When you go to the bathroom you pass the open kitchen, and even the back of house staff was open and welcoming. My new favorite place in SLU
If I’m being honest, it wasn’t too busy yet by our actual server’s presence you’d think they were slammed. The food was good, and the hostess made up for his lack of being present. However the standard 20% tip plugged into the bill at the end left a sour taste. I would have left it regardless, but it makes me wonder if the servers try less hard. Overall for the cost, wasn’t that impressed.
Food was mediocre--too salty, unevenly cook (my pork chop), small portions (for the price), and insipid presentation. The service was adequate but lacked enthusiasm and genuine desire to provide good service. Overall, it's okay, although disappointing for a Tom Douglas restaurant especially.
We came for Seattle Restaurant Week. I love Italian. Unfortunately, most Seattle Italian restaurants think everyone likes their food spicy, which I do not. They prepared my pasta with plain marinara sauce, sans spiciness, which I appreciated. They also offer three courses for lunch instead of the usual two which most restaurants have at SRW lunch. Also very much appreciated. Only downside was that bread was not freely given. Come on, a few free slices of bread, usual at most restaurants, can't cost that much.
This was our first visit to Cuoco. We had a great time and really enjoyed our meal. The restaurant is dark but still well-lit enough to see. The hostess gave us our option of booth or table which was nice and showed she had read my requests. We got there before 6pm and were able to enjoy some happy hour prices on drinks and appetizers. Cheesy break was hot and thickly dredged with cheese - savory and good. The meatballs had a flavorful tomato-y sauce and were steaming hot. The prosciutto app came with chunks of pear, walnuts and parmesan cheese. For entrees, the large cappelletti was delicious - - rich, creamy sauce of parmesan fonduta and porcini butter. Lasagna was rich, very hearty and stuffed full of meats and cheeses. Our server was friendly and super professional and efficient. We enjoyed the meal and he contributed to that. Lots of nice and unique cocktails, and a fairly decent beer list. We will definitely return the next time we're in Seattle.
The chef makes Italian dishes that you won't find at ordinary Italian restaurants we are so familiar with. That doesn't mean the menu is bizarre. It is wholesome, like you get outside the tourist cities of Italy. There, food isn't fancy; its just real good! The pasta is made in-house and formed by hand. I had one shape that I never saw before and it held the sauce very well even though is was runny. The cocktail was good and the offerings interesting, too. The wine list has something for every dish by the glass and the bottles are well selected.
Service/Expectations-related: My friends (from out of town) and my family needed a kid-friendly restaurant that could accommodate our early dinner time for a quick meal to end our day together. Cuoco seemed like a good fit since pasta was my friend's kid's favorite food. Unfortunately, the staff looked disappointed and the service level dropped significantly after we only ordered entrees and not multiple courses. Perhaps a better communication plan would have been to be upfront about the expectation of multiple courses, size of entrees to fit the design of the multi-course meal, and give the patrons room to make our own decisions based on our needs.
Very good meal with homemade pasta and delicious focaccia bread. We requested a quiet table and the host noted our request and seated us at a quiet table. We definitely recommend it and plan to return again and again. It's a wonderful restaurant for dinner in the fall and winter.
Took a friend from out of town to dinner on a Friday night. Wanted to try a Tom Douglas restaurant. Some of the others don't take reservations for 3, others were booked which is how we ended up at Cuoco.
There was a very busy happy hour outside when we arrived, but inside, it was quieter.
All the food was excellent, creative touches. We all tried different housemate pastas. Each was outstanding. Service was friendly, and overall, a very enjoyable evening. Our friend (from so Cal) was impressed.
Great ambiance. Food is delicious. Only disappointment was the prosciutto with melon--tasty but a bit bland, predictable. Tom Douglas usually takes a classic and makes it even better--unfortunately not the case with this particular dish. Otherwise, service was fantastic, cocktails were fabulous too.
We enjoyed a relaxed pre-concert dining experience at Cuoco. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the various dishes. We started with braised meatballs and the bruschetta with whipped gorgonzola and figs. We both loved the bruschetta and would order again. My husband enjoyed his lasagna and I ordered the pork chops with brown butter peaches with a side of rattlesnake beans. The porkchop was AMAZING!! We will be back and both of us will be ordering the pork chop.
Love love the pork chops! Best we've ever tasted! It was tender, flavorful and we will be getting that for sure at next visit, sooon!! Of course, pasta was tasty and always a favorite is the coconut cream pie from heaven!
The servers were all incredible, they took extra good care of us on our anniversary and we felt like royalty.

I had the pork with brown butter and grilled peaches, delicious! One of us ordered the cappelletti, also delicious, the third ordered gnocchi which was my first time trying it, I didn't like it, but my mother did.
We went on a Friday night, there is no parking, but we found on street parking easily around the corner. They had loud not relaxing music, but they happily changed it for us. The coffee was also delicious, same on desserts, we had baked Alaska and coconut cream pie. It was my birthday so the comped my dessert.
I have dined at Cuoco many times, and it's always been one of my favorites. I was surprised, though, that on a Wednesday night, when the restaurant was not crowded, it was so noisy. I'm doing everything possible to avoid loud restaurants, which is a virtual impossibility these days. In past evenings, I've never thought Cuoco was annoyingly loud - but it was that evening. Maybe too much noise at the bar, with the TV on too loud? Another surprise is that the service was very uneven. Even though there were few people dining, we were ignored for about the first 15 minutes. Then someone apparently pushed the right button, and from then on the service was almost too energetic. I like waitpersons who are friendly and who know exactly the extent to which you want to interact with them, but we had three or four people buzzing around us (party of two) from then on. The food, as always, was delicious. I've read that South Lake Union restaurants are closing or experiencing hard times because the hoards of Amazonese do not stay around in the evening. That never seems to have affected Cuoco, though, as in the past it's always been crowded, even on week nights. So I wonder what's going on. I don't want any Tom Douglas restaurant to go away, and that applies in full measure to Cuoco.
Handmade pastas here shine; they are light and cooked just right (al dente). Preparations show creativity without being fussy or silly. A real plus is the selection of fresh veggies from the restaurant owner's farm.
Staff know their dishes and product, including wine. The atmosphere is cozy-casual but sophisticated.
I feel well-fed and attended to here.
Cuoco was fantastic, as usual. I booked on open table tonight and requested a high chair in the notes. They put us in the quietest part of restaurant, which was wonderful. The food was great and they were very accommodating to my dad's dietary requirements. Good job!
Seems like cuoco is trying to figure out how to attract more customers. Lots of empty tables. Portions are now smaller, they discontinued bread service and don't let you taste the wine before commiting. There was a jazz combo which made it hard to chat with my colleague.
