Cullen's specializes in craft cocktails, whiskey and bold American fare. The restaurant's mint julep with Buffalo Trace bourbon is almost too good to be true. Try out batches from a variety of different distilleries with one of Cullen's whiskey flights.
Dishes at Cullen's, such as charred salmon, pepper-crusted New York strip steak and bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin are cooked to perfection and come with sides like blue corn grits or risotto. The caramel apple bread pudding is a rich dessert. The restaurant's cheese and charcuterie board is a fun starter and a great way to kick off a night of leisurely drinking. Cullen's also has a separate bar area with half-priced appetizers during happy hour.

This was a suggestion by a colleague as a place to meet for a business dinner. The atmosphere was perfect for conducting a business dinner, especially on a weeknight. The area was large and they did not seat tables in a cluster so we did not have any problems talking discretely to each other at the table. The food was fabulous. Very sophisticated menu and not over priced for the quality. Would definitely recommend to others and be visiting again.
My husband and I were in the Houston area visiting family. We came across Cullen's and were extremely pleased. We ended up eating at this restaurant each afternoon for lunch while in town. The food was of excellent quality. The service was wonderful and the ambiance is clearly fit for a night out for dinner and drinks. The bar area is upscale and enticing. They also have facilities for large groups and gatherings. We have already decided we will have dinner at this restaurant on our next visit to town.
When we got there we were told we didn't have a reservation and it was shown to the person in front that we did. We had to sit and wait for quite some time for some unknown reason, and we did have a drink while waiting. Some of our party was late arriving but that shouldn't have been the issue. We still had to wait for a young lady from the bar offered to take us on a tour of your establishment, which was a great thing for her to do and didn't have too. She was very sweet and we wished we got her name.
Another thing is that the one waitress we had, seemed a bit overwhelmed at the large table of people she had to attend too. There should have been at least two the whole time, not just towards the latter part. Food took an extreme amount of time to get our food, approximately 45 mins. It was close to 10:15pm before we finally got our dessert.
Again, a total of over 4 hours was completely uncalled for! Most of us were on time and the reservation should have been there waiting for us.
Took the family to celebrate my wife's birthday. They placed the nine of us at a huge round table that made conversation difficult. In spite of a sparse crowd, the service/food were glacially slow. Took about two and a half hours to get the meal completed. The "jazz" brunch was nothing more than listening to recorded music. Would not recommend.
We are taking off our list of places to eat. They have changed their menu and it is extremely limited and expensive now. No more chicken fried steak. They are now priced pretty expensive but their service is still mediocre and food isn't much better. Ordered a medium rare prime rib, but got a med well, so I got to sit with nothing while my wife ate. Their food and service do not come close to their pricing. We are writing this place off.
We celebrate my mother's birthday here for brunch. The food was wonderful and served in large portions. The carafes of mimosas and French press coffee were both delightful and splendid. He waiter, Barrett, was attention and had a sense of humor. The manager also stopped by to ask how we were doing. Overall, great brunch and will come here again.
My husband and I went to Cullen's to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. Everything was perfect. The food was cooked to perfection. I like to have my steak cooked well done more often than not that means a dry steak. That was not the case at Cullen's. The aroma of the Swiss chard was only surpassed in taste. The restaurant was quiet. We had a section by ourselves made it seem like we were the only people in the building. I enjoyed not straining to hear or over talk the crowd. The waiter was so attentive. I didn't even notice when he refilled my drink. The wait for our food was quite short considering our food was cooked to perfection. My husband said they've spoiled us and that chocolate cake ruined it for every other place because it's going to be hard to find one that top's theirs.
My husband and son took me to Cullen's to celebrate my 46th birthday and it was awesome. The food was excellent, the ambiance was great, and we had an awesome server. There was a live band performing and they were playing all the oldies but goodies. I truly enjoyed and will definitely be going back again.
I have to eat gluten free so I was disappointed to see that my choices only included steak, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, wilted spinach and a side salad. The steak was decent, but not hot. I returned the spinach because it tasted like it was soaking in cleaning solution and asked for cauliflower instead but it was so tangy with lemon I could finish it because my mouth was coated in sour. I will not be going back.
The food this time was extremely good. Don't know if my taste buds changed or what but for some reason my steak was better than ever. It's always been good but I wasn't the only one at our table who seemed to think this. It's always been good , that's why we go back often
We went there for our wedding anniversary and had a great experience. The food was excellent, the service was prompt, and our waiter was cheerful, helpful and attentive. It was a very classy ambience. I particularly appreciated that the noise levels were low.
Must say I was very impressed with Cullen's this time. Our waiter was knowledgeable of the dishes, friendly and took exceptional care of us. The food was delicious. We had the scallops with the forbidden black rice. The dish was perfectly prepared. The wines our waiter suggested were
very nice. A great dining experience.
We celebrated our anniversary at Cullen's. Overall, we were fairly pleased, but there were a couple of things they could have improved on. First the good stuff. The ambiance was very nice, a perfect atmosphere for a romantic dinner. The furniture was nice and clean. We were seated in a half booth and the seating was very comfortable. The musician played some easy listening tunes and he had a soft voice, making the ambiance even nicer. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and she maintained a courteous and professional demeanor and provided top notch service. High marks for the bartender, as I ordered a "Cosmo" and a "Old Fashion" and they were both perfect, just the way dear ole dad used to make them. Now for where the have room for improvement. The food was good, but not great. We enjoyed the fresh bread before the meal. We ordered the Dinner Date porterhouse for two. While it was good, it did not taste like anything too special, like some steaks I have had at Perry's, Mr Peeples, and Vic & Anthony's. Also, I found it irritating that for ordering a $120 dinner, Cullen's forced you to accept the vegetables that the chef decided for you. If you are not crazy about broccoli, then you will need to order and pay for an additional vegetable.
A very nice facility, but as noted in other recent reviews the service was lacking last night. I've been to Cullens quite a number of times and sometimes they're great and sometimes their not (speaking to the food and to the service). This is disappointing for a restaurant of its advertised caliber and the price paid to have such a lack of consistancy.
My husband and I had a wonderful time at Cullen's for his birthday. I have visited Cullen's a couple of times before, but only as a lunch guest. The menu was certainly different, but well received. The lamb loin was exquisite! We had just a few bumps with the overall experience. I did mention in my dinner reservation notes that we were celebrating my husband's birthday, and that went unnoticed. Also, the waiter did ask if we wanted separate checks at the end of the meal. Not sure why he would ask that, as it was obvious we were there as a couple. Other than that it was a fabulous meal. I would like to mention the new, or not so new, LED monitor advertising the 'Murica bar. I thought that looked a bit tacky.
Please note... Cullen's does not have an agreement with open table any longer... So you can't pay with open table....
Our evening started off with the waitress dumping 2 glasses of ice water down my brothers back, which, she apologized for but we found out later she forgot to mention to her manager.
When we went to pay, this is when we found out about not being able to use out open table checks/payment, but what else Cullen's does not do is accept any other gift cards (such as Amex or visa gift cards). They only accept their own..
Overall the food was still good, we had the entire Restuarant to ourselves (weird for a Sunday evening), and my mother enjoyed her bread pudding dessert....
We had our 19th wedding anniversary at Cullen's since I had always wanted to try this restaurant. I had been to the bar side and I liked it. We had a very big party over 20 people. The ambiance was spectacular the whole setup was nice it was breath taking it was more then I imagined and the restaurant is really nice. But the food was a different story I had looked at the reviews and saw they were raving about their chef so I thought I was in for a treat. Well we waited for ever to get our orders taken and we waited so long for the food that the party was about over when they brought the food. All of my guests including my husband and I were very very disappointed the food was horrible and it was very expensive altogether my guest and I spent over $800 and not one person was satisfied I would never recommend anyone to this restaurant unless they get a new chef then I might try them again. I think this restaurant is very beautiful and would be great for romantic functions but Cullen's need to rethink their chef
I made day of brunch reservations after an overnight stay in Kemah for a Yacht Birthday Party. I was familiar with Cullen's after a site visit for a client's wedding and hosted my mom's surprise birthday party five years ago at Cullen's Live following a family dinner in the main dining room. The Birthday Gentleman, my best friend (his wife), and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The birthday boy had three courses with drink pairings and his wife and I enjoyed our two courses and cocktails. The shrimp and grits and French toast were the savory and sweet combination I was looking for. Will recommend it to anyone in the area.
Our birthday celebration dinner was excellent! The atmosphere was upbeat and inviting, and the cuisine was excellent. Each person in our party of three enjoyed our meal completely, and really enjoyed sharing two desserts! It was a wonderful evening of fun and laughter, and each of us came away with that feeling that we would certainly return soon - and not wait for a special occasion!!
This was such a wonderful experience. We basically boycotted Cullen's after several bad experiences and hated to do so as we loved several of their staff, namely Sarah.
With some reluctance we decided to try again, after a long while, and it was fabulous. The food was much better than it had ever been before, it was truly as if we were dining in a gourmet establishment. Well Done! if you have not been in a bit, we suggest you give them another go, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Cullen's is a dinning experience that matches the finer restaurants in Houston. The food is always a cut above and the wait staff is excellent. The only down side is when you are planning something special you would hope that there was an enforced dress code. You will see people in suites at one table and another table would have cut offs and "T" shirts. This takes away from the "special occasion" feeling you are expecting and paying for.
We had a great experience at Cullen's Easter Buffet. They had an excellent offering, the food was delicious, and the service was prompt and courteous. The serving lines were well-organized and enabled patrons to serve themselves without long-waits or frustration. I highly recommend Cullen's for any special occasion.
The food was GREAT. Our waiter was BRAND NEW. I think we were his very first customers EVER. He had no backup or guidance. I felt the mgt just hired someone to fill a spot and this guy should have started at Taco Bell before he was let out in a great restaurant .
Cullen's atmosphere is fantastic as was the live music and our waitress. The music was slightly on the loud side but our party of 4 was still able to carry on a conversation. The brunch menu has a good variety to choose from. The menu choices that 2 of us made were not terrible but simply bland. I ordered the eggs & bacon. The bacon was actually three thin slices of what appeared to be pan fried pork roast. Looked good but there was no comparison to actual bacon. It was flavorless. The other dish was the bread pudding french toast. The only comment about it was that he wouldn't order it again. He didn't elaborate on why.
We will try Cullen's again for lunch or dinner to see if the offerings on those menus are any better. We love the elegant atmosphere there and hope the other menus or evening chef provides better.
