Cull and Pistol Ratings and Reviews
This place is great! Chelsea Market was hopping, of course, and this gem proved to be a great stop on our adventure to that part of the city. The staff was super friendly and catered to our every need, explaining the menu and offering great opinions on the food and drink options. The oysters were delicious and our meals were amazing! We had the Steamed Market Fish with spaghetti squash and Grilled Hamachi Collar - yum.
We were stuck in traffic and were 30 minutes late, they saved our table! Astonishing. The staff was amazing, the food was ridicuoulsly good and we were made to feel at home and relaxed.
We will most assuredly be going back for those fresh delicous oysters!!!
Great seafood coming directly from the Lobster Place purveyor, can't go wrong. As starters you can choose from the raw bar on a pick & write paper menu which is great (better do your homework to understand East versus West coast flavors regarding oysters). Then comes the main menu which offers some other interesting pairing starters, such as the crab & shrimp dumpling, delicious. As main course, the Lobster Roll CT style is really good and recommended. On a side note, you can get the same thing in Europe for a third of the price and double the quality. Hey, this is NYC...

second visit, still special
We came here a couple of years ago and it was so good we booked again, this time as a special meal for our wedding anniversary.
We went with friends this time and started by sharing the shishito peppers which we all found very moreish although nobody got a hot one!
Our friends and my wife all had the lobster roll with lots of thin crispy french fries and I had the branzino cooked with far eastern spices; this is a fish I had never heard of but it was a little bit like plaice and just slightly charred on the outside but perfectly tender inside.
Everything was as we remembered it, this is one of the best restaurants we have been to anywhere, not a bargain at $220 for 4 people but good value for this quality of cooking.
It's only a small restaurant and packed on a Saturday evening; it needs to be booked well in advance.
I am a huge Cull & Pistol fan and like to go as often as possible as their raw bar is one of my favorites and always has delicious king crab and yummy oysters. I was disappointed this visit as my favorite salad is missing from the menu and there were not many salad options in general. The seafood is always fresh and portions good. I love that this is a slightly out-of-the-way place that is not a total scene. Fun to be in Chelsea Mkt after hours!
We very much enjoyed winding through the Chelsea market on the way to the restaurant. This is a fun, energetic spot. We started with an assortment of very good oysters and some rose. Plenty of both to choose from! We then moved on to the lobster rolls. One warm and one cold....we are still debating which one was better. The fries were perfectly seasoned as well. Another glass of wine to go with the rolls and we left content. Great spot for casual dinner and a good start to a Saturday night.
We had very high expectations and every one of them was met. The oysters according to my husband, were incredible. I had the lobster and was thoroughly impressed. Amazing flavor and it was huge. The squash side was well seasoned and delicious. My husband was raving about the scallops. He also loved the oyster shot and my Thyme infused drink was splendid!
The food was great, but our server was not. The raw bar was delicious. I got the lobster, rock crab claw, shrimp cocktail and oysters. Everything was a very fair price and delicious. We had to ask three times for the menu, our drinks were nearly always empty and we waited about 20 minutes for the bill. The tables need to be pulled out so you can sit in them, so beware if you need to get up to use the restroom.
We went to Cull and Pistol for our wedding anniversary. It was busy, but we got seated right away. The staff was friendly, service speedy and the food was delicious, particularly the raw bar. We got the raw bar and the clamback for two. Next time we will do more of the raw bar (which was phenomenal) and something smaller for the main course. I highly recommend it.
Wonderful atmosphere and delicious food! The clambake for two was extraordinary - a huge lobster, with lots of clams and mussels and more, all cooked in a sumptuous broth. The only drawback in the restaurant was that it was unfortunately very cold because of the air conditioning blowing at the tables. I would highly recommend the restaurant, but dress warmly!
While the waitress was good, she never asked if our food was good/prepared okay. My husband's lobster was "chewy" and my scallops were over cooked. A side salad was lettuce and salad dressing. No other vegetables. The house wine was $15.00 per glass which is high in my opinion.
