Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
We ate at Cuisine before a show at the theater across the street. We loved the dinner show menu. We had a fabulous dinner and made it to the show on time. Our server was excellent! The food smell good and was very appealing to eat. The Ambiance was very nice and quiet enough to hold a great conversation. The bartender made our drinks perfectly.
This is a nice Midtown spot before a show at the Fisher or other nearby venues. Our waiter, Justin, was engaging and conscientious of any time constraints we had. Cuisine uses the team concept for service so we got to meet a number of servers and assistants. The food was great: the Lobster Bisque was enjoyable as were the Thai Shrimp. My wife enjoyed her Lyon Salad (with the warm poached egg). The main courses on this prix fixe meal were the right size and properly prepared. We had the Grilled Sirloin and the Chicken Cordon Bleu. The side dishes with our entrees were very good.
The ambiance of this beautiful old home gave it an intimate feeling. A few places in the main dining room showed the age (and water damage) but it was very relaxing.
We enjoyed our dinner and would go back again.
Let me start by saying that the food here was good. Prepped well, looked pretty. There was nothing wrong with anything. But there wasn't anything really interesting or exciting or crazy-delicious about it either.* For the money, I expected more. The service wasn't great - it was pre-theater so likely their busiest time, but since they're across the street from the theater, I'd think that they would have worked that out by now. We had to ask for things we were missing and it wasn't easy to flag someone down. If you're the type who likes good food a little on the bland side, and enjoys a nice bread basket after the meal is over, this is the place for you.
*The one exception was the cauliflower side, made with red grapes, pumpkin seeds, and capers. Definitely interesting and surprisingly tasty.
The waiter was great but the service was slow. It truly appeared as if they did not have enough help, although all the staff was pitching in. The pre-theater Pre-Fixe meal was great, but it seemed if you ordered from the menu (as someone in our party did) that they weren't expecting it.
Food was delicious though! And we gave ourselves enough time 2.5 hours before the show.
We ate at Cuisine before a show at The Fisher Theatre. The food was very good but service could have been better. Server brought appetizers before we even had our drinks, and our side dish did not make it to the table until we had finished our main courses. Will return.
Amazing night. We decided since it was our first time that we'd try their 6 course tasting menu to allow us to try a lot of their dishes along with a wine flight where they paired a wine with each course. Tuna Tartar w/risotto cake - incredible way that it was prepared and served. A perfect start. 2) Asian/Thai 5 spice shrimp was so good - I'm still thinking about it. Justin suggested that we try eating it with the shell on - It was amazing the texture, flavors co-mingling on the tongue. 3) Sea Scallops w/bourbon infused apples and baby asparagus - these were lovely: again the flavor combination along with the perfect sear was delicious. 4) Halibut w/potatoes and a mushroom sauce - light and delicate a true suprise. 5) Salmon en pappiotte - served with citrus butter - absolutely amazing to open and have everything inside perfectly cooked. 6) Dessert - Chocolate Torte with a creme brulee which they served with a port. Justin our server was impeccable and really fine tuned the wine to not only what we were eating but to our personal taste preferences. The chef created this menu for us since they usually have either a meat tasting menu or a vegetarian/vegan one. We stated that we're pescatarians (vegetarians who eat seafood) and on the fly, they came up with all of that. Thank you for the wonderful meal, beautiful surroundings, and an awesome server, Justin.
We were warned that the service was poor on other websites and they were correct. At the beginning of our meal the service was great, very friendly waiter - Jack - and he was very attentive. Once things started getting busier it was apparent that they don't have enough waiters. In addition, the waiters were busing tables - not cool. They need to have more waiters on staff and have other people busing, serving food, etc.
That being said, the food and drinks were outstanding and the restaurant is very pleasant in ambiance. The location is perfect right across the street from the Fisher Theater. I would definitely recommend to friends but would give them the caveat about the service. Hope they correct things soon.
Disappointing pre-theater dinner at Cuisine. The "Love Never Dies" menu was pedestrian. The salad was decent but the chicken cordon bleu was tasteless, the mashed potatoes were blah, and the haricot verts were cooked to death. I miss the inspired cooking and ambiance of the Cuisine in it's heyday.
We have been going to this restaurant many times prior to attending a show at the Fisher and also for Restaurant Week. This time I brought a group of 8 ladies. I was appalled when 1 woman came out of the ladies' room saying that there was a mouse sharing the bathroom with her!!!! The ceiling in the dining room is in disrepair and makes dining in the room not very appetizing. I will not go back.
Cuisine could be an amazing little "diamond in the rough" but needs much TLC before I will return or recommend it.
pre-theater dinner waiter was too chatty, we were trying to catch up with friends before the show and he kept joining in on the conversation. One of us ordered the steak medium well, it was rare and grizzly. That was on the prefix theater menu and she never got her dessert. A manhatten was ordered with maraschino cherries, were told they don't serve them because they are made from formaldehyde!! We are season ticket holders for years and love the convenience of Cuisine, but they need to step it up, like it use to be.
Cuisine is like an old friend, you can pick-up right where you left off. She hasn't changed a bit. The fair is good, the ambience good, the location awesome, the setting is intimate and a little worn in. She isn't the new kid on the block but aren't old friends the best and most reliable friends?
Best food in Detroit? Maybe! We originally went for restaurant week. This was our second time, but first time ordering off the menu. We ordered everything, and loved every bite. There is a very cool bar inside too, with TV watching football. I wish i still lived next door, i would literally be there every day.
We visited Cuisine while my in-laws were visiting. We had the 6 course tasting menu - It was one of the best meals we've ever had. Every course was fantastic and the service outstanding. We are true foodies - and hve eaten at amazing restaurants in Seattle, Napa, DC and NYC - Cuisine and Chef Paul hold their own - bravo!
Fantastic evening at Cuisine - what a gem! The ambiance in this quaint restaurant is cozy and relaxing. We were treated like VIPs on our recent date night, and Chef Paul personally saw to our comfort. His menu is thoughtful and our meal was divine (calling all foodies, you'll love it!). The staff was friendly, accommodating, and all had a genuine smile on their faces, we just loved the atmosphere here. I highly recommend Cuisine and can't say enough good things about this place!
