Purchased in 2015 by Daniel Smith and Elizabeth Du Plain, UpRooted is located on Rt. 120 in McHenry, near the Fox River. Built in 1938, the building has a history as a bar, restaurant, and even the McHenry Moose Lodge, and later housed Off-Track Betting.Dan and Liz completely renovated the building, updating the roof, electrical, plumbing, and utilities. The interior now features new, handicap-accessible bathrooms, a modern kitchen, and a dining room with new walls and ceiling. The bar boasts new hickory, hard maple, and pine finishes. The exterior has been freshly painted and includes a large front deck.UpRooted offers Certified Angus Beef steaks, seafood, antibiotic/hormone-free chicken, vegetarian/vegan options, and seasonal specials. While not a gluten-free establishment, some gluten-friendly items are available, and the team is accommodating with substitutions.
