Mirch Masalah Singapore is a North Indian restaurant that we can’t get enough of. Right on Boat Quay, it’s river-facing and a wonderfully relaxing and casual spot to enjoy authentic North Indian food with your friends. The menu is high-quality and laced with flavour, consisting of plenty that’s vegetarian as well as plenty that’s not. Then, as well as the food, Mirch Masalah Singapore has plenty of beers, wines and spirits to make things even more enjoyable. For a relaxing and utterly delicious time on Boat Quay, look no further than Mirch Masalah Singapore and be sure to arrive armed with an advanced reservation. You’ll need it.

Known across Singapore for almost 25 years as one of the most reliable and authentic places to fill on some Indian cuisine, Maharajah radiates quality. Both Maharajah restaurants – and certainly this one on Boat Quay – display some curious Indian artefacts and specialise in North Indian cuisine, meaning you can expect all of the Indian classics and – given Maharajah’s lengthy presence in the business – plenty of house specialities prepared using methods and recipes passed down through the generations. We’d be lying if we said this restaurant at Boat Quay wasn’t popular, so it’s wise to book ahead.

• Indian • Clarke Quay
Annalakshmi Singapore is an authentic, extremely popular Indian vegetarian restaurant, not far at all from Clarke Quay MRT. The all-you-can-eat buffet here is one of the tastiest, most affordable buffets we know of in this part of the city, and absolutely all of the food is 100% vegetarian, with plenty of vegan options as well. Annalakshmi is a great restaurant for a casual meal with friends or family and you’ll find it on Havelock Road, Central Square. It’s open for lunch as well as dinner, and the humble authenticity will definitely leave you smiling. Reservations at Annalakshmi are always a good idea if you want to be sure of a table.

There are plenty of places to pick up an Indian meal in Singapore, from the upmarket white tablecloth places of the Downtown Core to the Little India enclave up on Racecourse Road. In Clarke Quay, RAS - The Essence of India tries to do something markedly different to the standard curry house fare. They offer a range of dishes that distinguish them from the norm, with a menu that takes in the whole of India rather than just one region, with lesser known specialities such as kachi mirchi, a curry cooked with green chillies and cashew nut and tandoori lobster, a Singapore seafood taste on the Indian repertoire. Take the train to Clarke Quay metro and wander over the Read Bridge towards the shopping centre, where you can find RAS - The Essence of India on the riverfront, waiting to welcome you in and take your order – just remember to book your table ahead of time.

• Indian • Farrer Park
Mustard is Singapore’s first and only Bengali and Punjabi restaurants, which is reason enough in itself to dine here. But then there’s the food, which is fresh, authentic, and makes a meal here absolutely essential. Some of our favourite dishes on the menu include the Punjabi chana masala, the Bengali doi dharos (lady’s finger cooked with raisins and yoghurt), or the Punjabi spiced eggplant roasted in a clay oven and then sautéed with onions and tomatoes. You’ll find Mustard on Race Course Road in Little India where it’s definitely a good idea to arrive having made a reservation in advance, as the Indian food here is some of the best in the area.
