Best Contemporary American Restaurants in Valley Glen

It was a last minute reservation made en route via a reservation site. We arrived 10 minutes early and were offered a seat in the library area. After 5 minutes I checked back with the hostess to make sure she didn’t think we wanted to be served there. She informed us that we were 10 minutes early. No worries I said. We didn’t love the first table we were offered and without sitting, immediately asked to be moved. The table was positioned right next to the swinging kitchen door which was right next to the bathroom hallway door (a result of booking last minute or that we arrived 10 minutes early either way it felt punitive. Note to management- eliminate that table and replace with a plant. It’s a crappy spot, no pun intended). They accommodated our request politely although the next table seemed to be placed in Siberia. Once again no worries. We were hungry- moving on. I returned from the restroom to find a sparkling wine aperitif on the table- tasty and a nice touch. Menu was small but good. We shared the little gems salad and each had an entrée. The Jidori chicken and Miso Cod with a side of smashed potatoes were all well prepared and an unusual blend of spices. It’s not easy to serve chicken breast that is both tender and tasty. Sticky toffee dessert was a great final touch to our tasty dinner. Server was relaxed friendly and available. The bill for 2 with tip was $175.00. We only had one glass of wine. Entrées were on the pricier side. Not outrageous but it seems to be the case everywhere now. The place was jumping when we left and it was a Sunday night. Happy to have rediscovered Firefly just please work on the youthful snark. It’s so unnecessary.

First time I came to dine at Five on the Hill was for the autumn popup and absolutely loved everything from that experience. Found out a winter/christmas-themed popup was happening and had to attend with my friends. Because of traffic we were running late so we called ahead to see what could be done with our reservation and the person who answered was very friendly and flexible, which we were all appreciative of. The vibes were very festive with many photo opportunities. The food was also great, would definitely recommend the mushroom flatbread and the good ol bread! Our server Greg was wonderful the entire time. Restrooms are located inside the hotel next door, and self parking is available with validation if needed. Overall, great experience especially if you are celebrating something.

Great California Chinese restaurant. Wait staff was excellent and pot stickers were one of the best meals on the menu. Easy to get to from Universal.

Fabulous food and service. we went for brunch but will definitely go back for dinner. Mark and Emily were great.
