Best Contemporary American Restaurants in Des Plaines

Boka is one of the most consistently excellent restaurants in chicago. The dishes that really wowed us was the arctic char, mushrooms and gnocchi. The drinks are delightful, but small, especially given the price point but they are all really special. And the included desserts, specially the truffle with lavender filling was fantastic.

Food was great. We will be back; just hope with a different waitress. She was not busy but did not offer refills for drinks. We had to ask for everything. Had to flag her down several times. A good waitress anticipates your needs. We still gave a 20% tip but honestly she deserved 15. Waitress lacked interest or training in being top notch. She could have been great but again, either lacks training or the interest. She is the main point of contact between the customer and the restaurant, is on the front line and is the face and reputation of the restaurant. She can make a dinner experience ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’. It’s all up to her. Unfortunately it was good, not great. Does the restaurant want a reputation that’s good, or outstanding? We will try one more time but hope it’s a different waitress. Thanks.
