The restaurant was incredibly accommodating to a food allergy my companion has. she called ahead, then when we checked in, we we're told that the whole staff had been alerted. We were informed about which dishes could not be altered. A big hooray for this. Now to the meal. Whether something is good or bad is mostly a matter of taste, so I will describe the various dishes. We had cold muscles in brine which is not to my liking. We order the short ribs which were described as spicy to the point of being pallet numbing. They were a bit fatty as short ribs can be but incredibly bland. We had fennel with pears which was almost tasteless and charred cabbage which was mildly flavorful. Because there was so little food, we added an order of fried chicken which ended up being two drumsticks and two thighs. We both like dark meat and the crust was very crunchy and had a little bit of spice. We both agreed it was the best dish but hardly anything to ride home about. One peculiar part of the meal was the fish. What fish you might ask? When we asked about the fish we were told they were out of it even though we arrived at the restaurant after a basketball game at 5:45. Then we were told that when they say they are out of the fish they actually have one order that they hold back. In case a diner can eat only fish. Then they said they would give us the fish but we decided the preparation did not sound interesting. This is a for your information note in case you go and absolutely need fish. There is a 3% charge added on to to the bill for the staff. It is removable on request and clearly noted on the menu. All in all, a disappointing outing. There is street parking and an adjacent lot at $5.

The chicken gyoza , lettuce wraps , and orange chicken were our favorite. It was soooo good . The lo mien was really good as well. The fried rice and Hong Kong noodles were just okay . I’m going to call this a Dim Sum+ place. Solid dim sum menu with the classics: Rice noodle rolls, har gow (truly jumbo, as advertised), Chinese broccoli, bok choy, seafood noodle (crust stirfry), congee…. The list goes on! In addition to the dim sum though, there are “banquet” type dishes like the Peking duck w steamed buns, poached fish w chile oil, hot spicy fried fish, Mongolian beef, etc. we had a large party that I knew would be chaotic so I asked to order ahead of time. Becky was hugely patient and helpful in guiding me to order just the right amount of food for our elderly party! The staff was also very patient throughout our dinner, navigating our elderly party and one rambunctious toddler. Environment was great—we came early so it wouldn’t be as crowded as this place came get VERY crowded during typical meal hours.

I would say stick to the main menu and do not order the $45 youtiao (chinese donut) supplement, which consisted of some dough ball topped with ham and caviar. The whole bite was a salt bomb from the ham, caviar, and uni (which I didn’t really taste). The disappointment was in the supposed chinese dough aspect which was not crunchy/rich/chewy whatsoever and offered no contrast for the whole bite; it really had more of a consistency akin to a takoyaki, which would have been a more apt descriptor for the sea elements. For $45, I would rather they offer an additional dish than bite. The main lamb dish was a miss for us and offered nothing mind blowing in particular, as was the ground cumin lamb pan fried bao served on the side, which again looked like it would be crispy, but again was not; the ground meat on the inside was stodgy/hard but did have a nice seasoning to it, albeit one note. The quail and black cod were the dishes that were more reminiscent of a michelin starred restaurant. Finally, the crab maw soup was good, but they need to realize that putting a whole dollop of the caviar would make it salty, and the little dish of vinegar on the side was not enough to balance it all. Desserts at the end were great and ended the meal on a good note. As for drinks, the non-alcoholic drinks were fun and refreshing. Service overall was spectacular and professional, and the interior ambiance was clean, minimalist, and quiet.

So glad the food had gotten better. There was a period where it was meh, but it’s back to being good. We’ve been twice in the last three months.
