General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Somehow these two halves make perfect sense, and complement each other in a seamless conversation, where neither wins the argument, but you really do have to see it! See you soon!

    This was our first time coming to the Dorset and we really enjoyed it! The food was amazing, between us we got the Sunday roasts, fish and chips and the breakfast, everything looked fantastic and tasted great. The service was also exceptional!

    We went to Elephant & Castle before a show and had a fantastic experience. The service was amazing, the prices were very reasonable considering the location in downtown Toronto, and it’s incredibly convenient for anyone heading to the theatre. Everything about the experience was easy and enjoyable. I would strongly recommend Elephant & Castle, especially for anyone looking for a great pre-theatre meal in Toronto.

    Staff and Service were outstanding. For some reason Opentable had reservations available before the restaurant even opened. The waitstaff and kitchen did not hesitate to accommodate us.
