Need to book at 8:15 PM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Amazing food! Lovey staff and awesome experience! We love this restaurant. Each time we drive from LA to SD we make sure to stop here for food. Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Thank you for your wonderful service!
I made a reservation for 1030pm, I was told it was the last reservation available when I made it. When we arrived just before 1030, the hostess was extremely friendly and said there was still a small wait and invited us to sit at the bar while we waited. The bar staff were attentive and got us our drinks quickly. At 11pm we were sat with our waitress. I did not get her name but wish I did. She came to the table and asked if we were ready to order, we said we were ready and as we began to order she told us to hold on a minute she needed to go do something. I’m not sure what exactly it was but it took about 10-15 minutes, we sat with no water and no order placed. When she came back we placed our order and she said since it was Valentine’s Day we had to order something from all 4 courses if we wanted to sit at her table. We wanted a pizza for our 1st course, 2 salads, a filet and sea bass for dinner and a dessert. I didn’t understand the issue and no one else mentioned those rules to us but she told us if we wanted that we would need to go eat at the bar. So moved back to the bar. It was almost 1130 by this point. We sat at the bar and said we would like to place an order and they told us the kitchen was actually closed. The bartender went to talk to the kitchen staff for us and I head them upset in the kitchen over having to take an order. We didn’t want to get bad food so we said we would just get a pizza since they said that would be fast. The pizza came out with extremely burnt crust, raw dough, and the mozzarella was so raw it slid off the pizza in clumps. So we paid and left without eating. What I reserved as a Valentine’s Day nice meal with my wife turned out to be an inedible pizza and 2 drinks for 50 dollars. We drove from Oceanside to be at a restaurant with good reviews near downtown where we were spending our night and it was the worst experience I’ve had at a restaurant in San Diego.
We were very disappointed with our Valentine’s Day dinner. Cucina Urbana is our favorite restaurant and we made our reservations months in advance. We couldn’t wait to get our favorite pasta and pizza. However when we arrived we found a set menu for very expensive that had mostly meat entrees. There was only one pasta option which was goat cheese - which I dont like, and no pizza option. Since it was already 6:30 on valentine day we knew we couldn’t get a reservation elsewhere and decided to stay, being optimistic and hoping we’d like the food anyway. The set course food was not good. Half way through our meal my husband went to the bathroom and noticed other people had pizzas. When we asked our waitress she said we could order a pizza in addition to the set menu since we had already ordered it. We were upset this option wasn’t presented to use initially. Lastly it took 45 min between our salads (that we didn’t eat) before the entrees came. Overall it was very disappointing and not what we were expecting from a place we typically love so much.
Simply amazing , food and service totally worth my time .
Relaxing atmosphere in a busy restaurant is a joy. With delicious food (the charred cauliflower was out of this world), average prices and good service, this is a very good joint for dining!
Our waiter was great. Everything he recommended based off what we liked was on point. My wife loved the place and so did I, definitely we'll be back, great for anniversary/occasions
Perfect spot before theater at the Old Globe. Shared polenta board, pate, and brussells sprouts. Delicious. Used the valet and the shuttle to and from the play.
The food is good and the servers are very good. I don’t like the seating where all 2’s and many 4’s are lined up against the wall, elbow-to-elbow with the table next to you.
The pours on the martinis are about 3/4’s what you would get in most other nice restaurants. They charge as much. They just don’t pour as much.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Loved the Brussel sprouts and the fresh pasta as well as the tiramisu!
Only issue I had was with a 15-20 minute wait after I had reserved a space at least 1 week in advance. Otherwise, our waitress was fantastic.
Great service. Server was on top of everything. Polenta board is still the best thing ever.
Our favorite restaurant in San Diego, based on great food and ambiance. This is the restaurant that feels "big city", which we really like to mix with the quieter spots. We haven't tried anything on the menu yet that wouldn't be considered a "signature" dish.
Great food and Service. Dante our server was Awesome
Had a great evening celebrating our son’s birthday!
Very good food and service. Have been before and recommended to others. We will be back!
Lugar muy agradable, pedimos un humus de entrada y estaba muy salado. De segundo plato una pasta con ternera, la pasta no tenia sal y la carne estaba muy muy salada, no pudimos terminar el platillo por lo salado
Love this place. The food and ambiance was amazing. Lynne knows her stuff, great service!
Awesome dinner! Our meals were excellent and the wines were superb. Our server Kevin is the best and so knowledgeable about the menu. He is the best waiter that you could have. I would highly recommend Cucina Urbana
They treaded my wife so well on her Birthday!
Everything went well. Great wine and dinner. Will be back soon
An neighborhood classic for many years is still a standout. We really love this restaurant and shall happily return in the next couple of months. In fact, my dinner was so good that I'll get exactly the same main dish again----the half-chicken with polenta. As someone who travels alot in the US and globally I've had my share of poultry dishes...but must say this rates in the top 2 ever! It's one of best tasting chicken dishes ever.
Always a great experience -- the food and service never disappoint!
Jordan and the Bartending staff was amazing. I will definitely go back next time I am in San Diego.
Amazing. San Diego restaurant week at the best restaurant in San Dieho
What a great experience!! Everyone was so warm and welcoming, from the hostess who greeted us, to our server, and everyone else on staff. Our server was so fun and made us feel right at home. And the food! It was sublime. Cucina Urbana is the best restaurant in San Diego. I take all my out of town guests there, and they always love it.
Absolutely amazing food, ambience, service ! A great place to go for any occasion.
Restaurant week excellent menu
This is probably one of the worst dining experiences I've had in San Diego. Not only did we wait for over 25 minutes for someone to greet our table, but a second server who was helping us because our server was "busy" also recommended a bottle in our price range which we communicated was $50 and then it ended up being $27 more than what they told us upon receiving the bill and THEN the manager negotiated it down to still be $3 more than what they originally quoted us. We participated in SDRW and waited over 25 minutes for each course. Our reservation was 7:30 pm and we left just after 10 pm. I'm all for a leisurely dinner but, we simply felt forgotten. Our server never greeted us or mentioned anything about the menu - a literal "Did you decide?" and never came back to check on us or see how we enjoyed the food from the time we sat down until we left. We saw our server happily engaging with other tables so it felt really odd. At the end, when we checked the bill he said they would fix the wine pricing mixup if they were able to talk to the other server who had recommended our wine earlier. I've only had good experiences up until now at Cucina Urbana but, perhaps there has been a decline in service since. I think this may have been my last visit.
Stuffed squash blossoms were out of this world!! Pasta was amazing as usual. The best part of the night was the staff. We were well cared for by all!
I dined with friends before theater at the Old Globe, during Restaurant Week. Our server was terrific and alerted us that the kitchen was very busy. She made sure our orders went in quickly, kept us updated on the status, and checked back with us. She was terrific in every way. I had the lamb ragu pasta which was excellent.
Service was terrible tonight.
Fun dining experience and very professional staff. Just too noisy to enjoy a conversation over dinner.
Always first rate service and perfectly prepared and thought out dishes.
High end but at reasonable price pointe. All food great. Great for date, special occasion, business meeting. Varied menu So
Something for everyone
Food and drinks were all really good. We had the roasted red pepper hummus which and beef carpaccio as appetizers. They were both fantastic and plenty for 4 people to share. Entrees were a couple pizzas and the crab ravioli. One of the pizzas was lamb, which was fine but not something we'd order again just on a taste preference (and we like lamb). It wasn't spicy enough.
Becky was great! Grace under pressure when dealing with a difficult table next to ours, and super-attentive throughout the entire experience! Food was fabulous, as always - though disappointed that the described "hot smoked salmon" was in-fact COLD "hot-smoked" salmon, and not really a spread at all, but a bowl full of creamed cheese and little bits of salmon. The first unsatisfactory dish I've had there in over 10 years of dining on every visit to San Diego. I guess we all have a miss every once in a while! Over-all 4.5 ☆ Thanks for a great anniversary dinner!
Excellent food, drinks and great friendly helpful service. Highly recommended!
Family dinner to send my daughter off to study abroad. It’s the whole families favorite!
