First time at the restaurant, service was great, everyone was friendly and the food was delicious. Will definitely return
Good food and good wine list with very good service. Go early to avoid the noise. Recommend the frito misto, salads and the pizza, all sized to share.
Always a great meal, service is outstanding.
I love their stuffed mushrooms, even if they are not on the menu they make them for me
Our go to Italian!
Great pizza (thin crust)
The best meal I've had at Cucina SA to date. One of the best meals I've had in Marin over the last decade. A very warm summer night. Greeted warmly by the owner, then by the server. Started with a couple of glasses of really nice Soave. My bride and I split three appetizers. Tuna Tartare - raw tuna chunks and avocado atop a light sausce I couldn't identify and finished with some housemade ranch dressing. Dandy on a warm night! We followed this with a Fritto Misto of shrimp, calamari, onion, and lemon each dipped in an incredibly light batter and quiclly deep fried, served with the ranch dressing on the side. I should have ask for a slice of lemn that's all it needed. We finished with a special arugula topped with toothsome pear and which i took as a very light ricotta cheese and I believe a lemon and olive oil dresing. We finished with something really really nice that sounds terrible - softserve vanilla ice cream with caramel and sea salt. Purrrfect!
And the whole menu really was tuned into both the season and moreover the temperature outside.
A plus is tht we noticed that they are now open for lunch. I've gotta try this out.
Kudos to the whole team - owner, server and the gang if wizards in the back of house. Take a bow folks!
We dropped in on a Saturday evening for our anniversary. It wasn't too crowded at 7:00 p.m. but filled up while we were there. Parking is pretty easy on San Anselmo Ave at that time, and it was a nice evening for a stroll. Service was quick and attentive throughout the meal.
The layout is a little unwieldy, though; when you walk in you just kind of stand in the middle of the aisle and try not to get in anyone's way. The server accidentally backed into me and almost tripped when she was seating us.
The food is all-around great. They started with bruschetta, rather than just bread, which was a nice (and tasty) surprise. The Crostini di Burrata was delightful. The wife ordered the gnocchi bava and enjoyed it, and it was a heartier serving than I've seen at other restaurants. I ordered a steak-and-pesto pizza that was one of the specials; it was a good-sized pizza, and I was not disappointed. We also shared a bottle of Dolcetto. They have a fair-sized wine menu, and Dolcetto was on the cheaper side, but still pretty tasty.
The food was outstanding!!
Wait service was great but the bus service lacked in getting more water, etc.
Strange set up when you walk in to check in with the hostess. You have to walk thru the restaurant and are standing in the middle of all the diners. A bit hectic. Would highly recommend the restaurant regardless.
Excellent Cuisine, excellent service and ambiance! We loved it and will return many times!
Great neighborhood spot with good pizza plus interesting pastas and seafood dishes. Service is friendly and helpful. We especially like to sit at the space in front of the wood burning oven on a cool night and chat with the pizza chef.
This is a nice, comfortable and convenient little restaurant . The food is consistently good and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. It's a great neighborhood restaurant.
Excellent as always. Best Italian in San Anselmo by far. Great service and ambiance along with a nice little bar scene. Never disappointed.
For lunch, the melanzane(eggplant) padini
was very good.
The bombolotti al sugo(rigatoni) was a little hard, should be al dente and the sauce was good albeit a bit spicy
Always a good meal, sweet friendly staff. Overall wonderful neighborhood jem.
Consistently great food! Wine list is very good, too. The service is warm and friendly each time I've been there. It can get noisy so I tend to sit as a two-some in the front window which is nice and quiet! Definitely a neighborhood gem.
it was fine. good local place to try. Not amazing, just good. might go back but not overly compelled to do so based on this experience...
Food is always outstanding. The service was not very good this time. Unfortunately it seems as with other restaurants that if you aren't ordering wine or other drinks, you pretty much are ignored after ordering the dinner. The waitstaff was too busy, we had to ask for water a few times and waited for a while to order and for the check.
Fun place . Some more traditional Italian but some nice variations and specials. Brussel sprout chips awesome. Quite good variety for vegetarians.
Booked via OpenTable for a Sunday lunch, only to find out that the restaurant was actually closed :( Not sure why the restaurant was listed as available.
Excellent service delicious food
Great food and excellent service.
Everything was great, as always. Only reason I deducted one star is because the sausage they're now using in my favorite plate (Contadino Misto) is way too spicy for me - and this time there was more sausage and less chicken, and a lot less garlic. Will have to mention this the next time I'm there - and there will definitely be a next time. They also have the absolutely best chocolate desert!
Excellent food and service. We ate in the wine bar area which was perfect.
The food was stellar -- every dish. The pancetta wrapped radicchio was crispy and flavorful from the pizza oven, and the bombolini was perhaps the best pasta dish I've had anywhere. We'll be back.
We have come to Cucina for several years, through a couple of incarnations. The current one is the best. Good food, great wine list and but less than attentive service and a reasonably high noise level.
Love cucina! Been a couple of times now! Highly Recommended! :)
The new chef has made the food Really great. The flavors are terrific. Great great menu!! The new wine list is definitely an upgrade.
Everything was great except for the noise level. We loved our waiter, Pedro.
The spices on the entrees and salad were way overdone. Very salty and overwhelming.
Salmon tasted very old.
One of my favorite places in Marin!
My wife and I stopped going to Cucina a few years when the owners separated and the food seemed to have gone downhill. We went back recently after a friend mentioned it and this was a follow-up.
It's a lively neighborhood trattoria on charming San Anselmo Avenue where we usually see someone we know. The tables are a little crowded (you don't go there for the décor) but with the low ceiling the noise level is tolerable -- and you can sit in the bar in the back near San Anselmo Creek if you want something a little quieter.
This time we started with a stuffed mushroom special and the outstanding raw shredded zucchini with almonds and parmesan, which we can't pass up. Then I had a risotto special and my wife a pork with pappardelle dish. Portions are large and it was really good -- ho mangiato troppo ("I ate too much")!
The wine list is not as extensive as it used to be before the divorce (Jack has a marvelous palate but he's no longer there) but it's really good and still reasonably priced. This time we brought our own so we left a 30% tip but even then the total tab for 3 was under $130. Very good value. It kind of feels like the old crowd of locals from Ambrosia has moved to Cucina.
I loved this place before the original owner sold it, and now that she has bought it back it is as good as ever. My new favorite appetizer is the arancini -- Italian risotto balls filled with cheese and proschutto. Fabulous little flavor bombs. In truth, everything we ordered was delicious. The beet salad was tasty and generous enough to share. The pastas were fresh and flavorful. And we split a generous portion of the very best warm zabaglione I have ever tasted. A memorable evening.
Excellent food, attentive and very personal service and overall great experience. This was our second visit to Cucina SA and I must admit I was a bit concerned that our perfect experience from our first visit could not be replicated as has happened to me at many restaurants. But not at this one. Very consistent and consistently great at that.
Love this restaurant, especially now that Donna is back - it's my go to place & never, ever disappointed.
Great food and service. Had for the second time wait almost 45 for our table.
Had a wonderful dinner with friends for New Years Eve. Food excellent. Service wonderful. Our server, Pedro, was very patient with us. Haha
Food was outstanding.
Consistently great food and service - well worth your trip!
We had a calamari appetizer, salads for all and shared dessert. Each and every one of us thought our food was excellent. Would definitely return. Although we arrived with 4 people instead of 3, we had no problem with the reservation. We stayed for over two hours talking business, and the staff did not rush us out the door. I really appreciated that! Highly recommend for a business lunch.
The food was wonderful (little meatball appetizer after their wonderful complementary bruschetta, a very creative salad, then pasta bombolotti sugo, and sole). We were there when the electricity failed mid-meal!!) due to a storm, and the staff, led by a cheerful, efficient Victor, managed us all with grace and humor! Impressive!
Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu , and so enthusiastic about the restaurant and food! The food was excellent! I will definitely return and recommend this restaurant!
