Italian
Chef & owner Brian Canipelli opened Cucina 24 in 2008 on Wall Street in the center of downtown Asheville, NC.

Our kitchen is focused on melding the traditions and philosophies of Italian cookery with ingredients found in the mountains of the American South.

We work closely with a number of area farms and our menus reflect produce that they bring to us.

Chef Brian has three children, Mia, Skylar and Luca.

This is a nice option for Italian food in downtown Asheville. The food was spiced a bit heavy for my taste, but that is a minor issue. Overall, I enjoyed the experience.

Unfortunately the AC wasn’t working on the very warm evening we were there. It would have been kinder to perhaps place a notice at the front desk informing patrons, before we were told half way through our meal.

There were three of us celebrating a birthday. We could either ALL order a la carte or ALL order the sharing four course meal. We accepted this “rule” and went on. Mc Kenzie was our server. She talked down to us as if we were ignorant. Two of us are 60 and one 30 and well traveled. When we asked for a description of some of the wines because of the way the wine list was set up. She told us it was really quite simple. Making us feel simple. The food was good. We noticed only one other table sharing the four course. Most ordered pizza I’m sure because some are hungrier than others and because they might not want to spend $48. We didn’t mind spending it. We just didn’t want to be “forced”to and certainly didn’t liked being talked down to. Also the courses came out so fast each time that we had not finished the previous course. We felt rushed.

The restaurant itself was amazing. The ambiance and service were top notch. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dish, but the Cacio e pepe was undercooked. Cheese was chunky. Very underwhelming. Do not recommend this dish.

We also ordered the squash which was excellent and appetizers and drinks were excellent as well.

We've been to Cucina 24 many times and like the food and ambiance. They have a new policy that they won't seat you until everyone is present, even when the restaurant is half empty and you've credit-card guaranteed the reservation. We had 5 of our party of 6 present but needed to wait at the bar. Eventually we talked the host into checking with the manager, and they reluctantly seated us at the table so we could order appetizers while waiting for the 6th person. The restaurant was half empty on a Thursday night I'd discourage anyone who might get delayed (we had 3 doctors in our party) from going here because of this policy.

The cheese board was outstanding with all American cheeses and a lovely presentation. The rigatoni with restaurant ade sausage was delicious. A pleasant evening.

We had a great experience at Cucina 24. The food was fantastic as was the service. Everything from the charcuterie appetizer to our pasta dishes and the wine were delicious. We just wish we would have had room for dessert. A must eat place in Asheville.

This was a fantastic birthday dinner for my daughter. We opted for the seasonal prix fixed menu which allowed us to taste many flavors. My husband is gluten free and the kitchen subbed two delicious veggie dishes for him during the pasta portion of our dinner. Appreciated that!
Enjoyed this meal! Will return.

The food was absolutely amazing, the ambience was very nice; but the music was a bit loud, that’s literally my only complaint. Everything overall was great, Dylan was a great waiter

Your wine list is limited, pretentious and expensive. I just moved here from London. Much better restaurants there have better lists with a much broader range of prices. I liked everything else about Cuchina, but the value was poor.

Completely underwhelmed with an unforgettable dinner for all of the wrong reasons. We were hugely disappointed and would not recommend or go back ever.

Based on a recommendation from a friend, we tried Cucina 24 and were not disappointed. Our reservation at the bar was ready and Megan greeted us with menus and the drink list. After having a tough time deciding what to order from all the mouthwatering selections, we decided on the mussels as an appetizer and the bolognese and rigatoni dinner selections. Combined with the huge offering of bread, butter and olive oil, we were in foodie heaven. Dipping the bread in the mussel juice which had little cubed potatoes, garlic and other spices was to die for. Now while we liked both our entrees, we have a habit of combining them since we always share our meals to try each others. So we mergered the two entrees together and the combination was awesome. Both blended so well that we almost suggested it to the chef but he probably would have been offended. It was so good that we ate every bite and used the bread to clean the bowls of every morsel. Needless to say, we recommend Cucina 24!

I ordered the Cacio e Peppe, and my pasta was severely undercooked; the noodles were crunchy. The gnocchi were not gnocchi, but rather a type of capunti. What a disappointment of an experience. I do not recommend, and I will not be back.

We were huge fans and chose Cucina for my hubbie’s birthday celebration based on previous great meals we’ve had here. The menu seems much more limited than we recall from previous visits. The menu was confusing and not explained by our server until we asked specific questions about the options - nothing was volunteered beyond answers to our questions. The salad (only one option on the main menu) arrived after our entrees, even though we asked if it had been forgotten after a long wait. The pasta dish was luke warm (after two attempts to serve it hot) and was monotone in flavor. I was done with it after a few mouthfuls and resorted to the late salad to break up the taste monotony. The strawberry dessert had two half strawberries on the entire plate. The dessert and coffee were otherwise the best part of the meal. All in all disappointing. We won’t be back anytime soon as there are too many other great dining options.

There aren’t enough stars for This restaurant. My experiences here are always exquisite. We always get the tasting menu and they tailor it to my need to avoid gluten. The real statement about this place though is the way I remember the food happily long after the meal is over! ❤️❤️❤️

The food was good - we did the tasting menu. However, with a mostly empty restaurant they seated a very noisy party directly behind us. Turning our nice, relaxing dinner into a not very relaxing dinner. Not sure why they did that.

Great service and very cool space. The food was generally good. Had the tasting menu and felt that it was quite good. Did not leave us feeling stuffed. Food was light and well prepared. However, some of the dishes felt like they were trying too hard to be very different. This can take away from the simple goodness and freshness of the food. Don't try to be overly inventive. Sometimes it backfires.

They have a regular menu but also a prix fixe. This is amazing. It is mostly local dishes and there are many courses. Our server was amazing. She described every dish, where ingredient came from, some history and more. It was a true culinary experience and absolutely delicious.

Family meal is so worth it! Portions are such that you are full but not uncomfortably so. Favorite place to bring friends from out of town.

We did the tasting menu, which was pricey but so worth it! It was literally one of the best meals we've ever had. The servers were also incredibly well informed about each dish and excited about them as well. Such a great experience.

We were underwhelmed. The food was mediocre and the staff was not really helpful.

We dined late on a Sunday and it appeared our server was ready for his shift to be done. The menu is not very approachable or easy to understand and he really did very little to help us with making decisions or answering questions. I think a lot of our impression of the restaurant was based on the server. A good server might have made this 2 star review a 3 or 4 star review.

We sat at the Chef's bar as was recommended. We had done so at Rhubarb a few nights earlier and had a great experience. At the other restaurant the chefs/cooks were very interactive and helpful. That was not the case, here. They were not very friendly or interactive at all. It appeared they were more interested in cleaning up and going home than explaining things or interacting.

We ate at Strada (another Italian restaurant) on a food tour while we were in Asheville and the food was much better. I would not likely return to this restaurant

I, and we, all like al dente pasta . However, this was several minutes short of properly prepared. I had to cascio e Pepe, one of my favorite dishes, and it had none of the magic of that wonderful simple dish. The cheese & charcuterie board appetizer were very good- Two visits in a row were disappointing.

Our food and server were good. We had a reservation, however when we arrived, the staff were still in their meeting. We waited fifteen minutes to be seated. The music was entirely too loud. For a place which claims to be romantic, classic rock should not be the music of choice. Didnt think much of their wines either. Save yourself time and just get takeout
