Cuba de Ayer is a great Cuban cuisine restaurant located in Burtonsville, MD. The entrees are fresh and authentic as they come. The Steak with rice and black beans are fantastic as was the Salmon entree. The fried plantains were delicious dipped in their garlic oil. All around they deserve 5 stars for their authentic cuban meals. Awesome.
Took 20-25 minutes to get our initial drink order delivered. That’s unacceptable when the restaurant is only half full. Waitress came back to take dinner order and we still hadn’t got the drinks. Instead of going to find out why they hadn’t been delivered, she was more concerned on taking our order. Food was excellent as always.
Great food, service and ambiance. This restaurant is located in Burtonsville, MD in a shopping center. It has a lively bar section and decorated around its authentic Cuban roots and cuisine brand. An excellent location if you only want the best local Cuban cuisine and not a chain brand taste. The plate portions are just right. Try their steak with Moros and Christianos and Tostones plaintains. Delicious!
Food was very good. Beans were excellent. Not sure why you have to pay extra should you wish red beans instead of black though. My Pork was a little dry so I asked for more mojo. They provided it, but added 75 cents to the bill. I don’t really care for that. Staff were pleasant and checked with us frequently. It was great to have Cuban food in an area nearby. An unexpected treat. Would go there again.
Our waiter was busy and didn't pay attention to details. He took a while to take our order and bring us our check. My wife ordered food with no onions, and no black beans. The food came out smothered in onions. We sent it back and while it had no onions the second time, they added black beans. The mojitos were great as always. We've been here before and usually have good service, next time I'll make sure we don't have him as a server. The chairs are not comfortable. The decor, the lighting and the ambiance is very romantic but is ruined by these ugly uncomfortable diner chairs. Even though our service wasn't great, we weren't compensated by the order messup or given an apology, we still tipped the waiter 20%.
Always tasty and gluten-free is clearly marked. If they have the salteado special- beef, chicken and shrimp- with onions and peppers, it can't be beat!! My husband never strays from the pork pernil--luscious! and of course sweet plantains are practically dessert. Wine and beer are reasonably priced, service is quick and friendly--only wish they would turn the music down a tad--otherwise, all you could ask for
We came to celebrate a few birthdays for my family. We had a reservation and the entire party didn't arrive together. We had a couple people not show last minute due to sudden illness. When we arrived, the hostess wouldn't seat us until the entire party arrived. Other parties of 2-5ppl showed up, without reservations, behind us as we waited for the remaining members of our party to arrive and the hostess began to seat them. My question is: What is the point of having a reserved table (which I had for over a week) if we couldn't get seated right away? They made us wait while watching them seat other non-reserved parties. One woman came in looking to get seated, having called 40 mins earlier for a table at the same time of our reservation, her party hadn't showed, and the hostess began to seat her! I made a bit of a stink about it and the woman backed down and decided to wait out of courtesy to their normal rule, even though the hostess was still willing to seat her. What is this policy?!!! Why upset people when they first arrived, especially when there were reservations to begin with. Is that the whole point of a reservation? To allow you to get seated ahead of walk-ins?
The other members of our party showed up and we were then seated. We had a nice spot tucked away and otherwise, our service and food was excellent! If it weren't for the rule about seating, I would've given 5 stars for a rating. Thank goodness our waitress and the food made up for the host stand's "welcoming" experience.
Food was good,,the waitress was terrible , you guys took 18%tip to pay for horrible service, we didnt even got water wen we sit..the drinks took for about 25min, before we got them,,the bill didnt even seem right for what we order,,i was there twice before,,but i would never go back,,tips should be giving to who does great service,,,,
Well.... I’ve had better at Cuba de Ayer and was a little disappointed in the food quality. The Pargo was not fresh as I have had in the past and for the first time in many years, left disappointed. I hope this isn’t a trend down, since this place is one of my go too places. That said, eveything else was fine, so I’ll give it a wait and see.
When they have their Cuban salteado special, I get shrimp, chicken and steak wth their tasty peppers and onions. Lots of food. Took half home. Unusual in a special mix to get 6 big plump shrimp. Yum! Only problem was steak and chicken were a little overdone. I have had this dish before and it was a little juicier. Overall still really good. My husband loves the pork peril. And dont paas up the sweet plantains. So good, theyre like dessert.
