About Permanently Closed - Crux Cafe
This restaurant is permanently closed. Chef Stewart’s passion for cuisine was developed in his early days in South Philadelphia. He apprenticed at La Campagna in Cherry Hill where he eventually worked as a line cook, sous chef and finally Executive Chef. During his 16 years, Chef Stewart was awarded the “Wish Dish of the Year” five times, from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He also displayed his talent in many private events, including a private dinner for the renowned Chef Paul Prudhomme of New Orleans.
Chef Stewart’s philosophy embraces the principle that “cuisine should be simple, using only fresh ingredients, so you can let the freshness of the ingredients speak for themselves.” Embarking on a lifelong desire to own and operate his own restaurant, Chef Stewart has created Crux Café, a cozy BYOB set in Audubon, NJ.
The word Crux has the meaning of essence or most important part of something. In this case, it is the start of a café with great food and hospitality for all his guests.

Crux Cafe - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I held a birthday brunch here with six friends. The wait staff was attentive and they gave us plenty of time to linger at our table. The food was delicious and the value was fantastic. We brought champagne and they kept us amply supplied with carafes of orange juice for mimosas. Only one of my friends had been there previously and they were all raving over the ambiance, their food, and the overall experience. Great day!
Thus was our third visit to Crux Café and we were not disappointed. The food is good, and the menu offers enough options to satisfy everyone. The lobster pizza appetizer was excellent. My husband loves the Pasta Carbonara dish. The staff is very friendly, and the service is fine. We will be back.
The food and service were very good. Large portions, hot, well-flavored. I would suggest that they turn down the lighting and add candles to the table. It would add to the ambiance. I think it is a bit too bright and with the high ceilings it feels like it was "something else" before a restaurant and they chose not to re-invent the space. I will go back.
What a great find! We were looking for a restaurant in this exact neighborhood, and could not have been happier. The chef was very accommodating for a bit of a picky eater, substituting deliciously along the way. A terrific Caesar salad and a beet and goat cheese salad started the meal, followed by a great Rack of Lamb and chicken dish. Coffee and tea were presented in a lovely way, and our dessert that we shared was a yummy carrot cake! Can't wait to go back!
Crux is elegant dining in a sit back and enjoy atmosphere. Enjoy delectable French Food in a fun South Jersey location. Beautiful over-sized arched windows look out onto a charming main street America scene complete with a Victorian train station. The staff is very attentive, and you never have to look for someone if you need something; they are always immediately available to serve you throughout your dining experience. Normally I skip desert; but, their dessert menu was all of my favorites, and I couldn't resist. My favorite part of the evening was the wait staff. I felt like I was having dinner at mom's house; that's how much affection and attentiveness they have toward the people dining at Crux. A wonderful experience at Crux! You have to go, and pick up a gift card for a friend! A+
Crux Cafe is a warm, friendly and comfortable restaurant where dining choices are ample and quality is excellent. We love the opportunity to go BYOB and especially appreciate the use of an Entertainment Book coupon. We have had 4 - 5 meals over the last few years and have never been disappointed..looking forward to enjoying brunch one day soon!
Crux Cafe was a fortunate last-minute find on Open Table - a well-rated neighborhood restaurant that still had a reservation available on a Saturday! We had some slight delays in service at the beginning of the evening, as 3 other parties arrived with us, and 2 more shortly after, but we were seated right away. The staff caught up with all the new arrivals quickly, read us the specials, and took our orders. It wasn't long before we were into our appetizers and salads (great calamari BTW.)
Staff was attentive, the food was very good, portions were generous. The restaurant is BYO, so we saved $$ on the wine bill. Definitely recommend and will go back to Crux Cafe!
Took my sister-in-law here for her birthday. Pasta Fagolia soup was delicious & nourishing with fresh spinash & real grated parmesan cheese on top.
I ordered the rack of lamb & it was cooked medium well to perfection. It was tender; juicy & flavorful. My sister in law had a fish dish which included mussels and clams; etc & she said it was very good.
The coffee service was also a nice touch with condiments that included fresh whip cream; cinnamon sticks; nutmeg; & brown sugar. The vanilla cake for dessert was good but was served a bit too cold. Once again dining at the Crux Cafe was an enjoyable experience.
Just enjoyed a very enjoyable lunch with an out-of-town friend. We each selected a sandwich & side salad, and shared sandwich halves with each other (since we were both looking at the same two selections). Both were really good - fresh and tasty. Our server was nice and accommodating - attentive while allowing us opportunity to visit with one another. I look forward to returning and trying them for dinner sometime soon.
Our recent visit was a get together with friends. The meal was outstanding, great service and thoroughly enjoyed by all. It was a first time visit for most of our group but certainly will not be their last. It has been our good fortune and delight to find such a neighborhood gem!
OUTSTANDING - been to this restaurant several times and each time we leave we say "That was our Best Experience! The care that the chef and kitchen staff put into menu selection, meal prep, execution, and presentation are phenomenal. These people at Crux Cafe really care that their customers leave with a fantastic culinary experience! Suburb Dining. wild taste combinations without being Over the Top!
The food here is remarkable.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Restaurant is small and quiet, without loud music and the usual loud background noise. Well lit, easy to read menu and see what you're eating. Wedge salad with ranch dressing was delicious, as was the main course. Our group tried four different menu items and all were wonderful. There were so many good options to pick from, it was hard to choose. We didn't order dessert, but I'm sure it would have been wonderful also. Restaurant is also BYOB so that made the check very reasonable. We would all definitely go back again, and have already recommended Crux Cafe to several friends. Easy to get to location and parking is readily available, unlike nearby Collingswood or Haddonfield restaurants.
Enjoyed a special four course meal for $35.00 per person for Restaurant week. The appetizers were a generous size, entrees were tasty, and the coffee was served with a nice variety of condiments. Atmosphere was nice with white and gold table cloths on the tables, nice lighting and comfortable seating (even Motown music playing over the sound system in a muted tone). It is nice to dine somewhere where the noise level is on the calmer side so you can really enjoy conversations.
