Crush is a great place for a romantic dinner with your honey or food and drinks in the bar with live music in the background.
The prices seem to have jumped up since the last time I was there. The server was overwhelmed and service slow. I was disappointed compared to past experiences
Ok, so the food at Crush is super good. Fresh, Italian and very tasty. The meatballs and the stuffed squash blossoms were favorites and the pizza is worthy of a return visit. The only negative is the noise level which is quite loud. We even sat in the back of the restaurant far from the bar and it was still hard to hear my friends across the table.
Supherb fiod. Scallops are out of this world. Service not so great. This was my third time there. First time service was fine. Second and third time not so good. Seems like it's not policy to pick up the plates after your finished eating. There wasn't a lot of people dining so we could look around the whole place. The waitress was frequently and for pretty long periods of time no where to be seen. But she was very nice and the bus boy did bring out the food promptly. Just didn't bus the tables.
We came here for date night. We had an early reservation and the restaurant was almost empty which was nice. I'm sure it gets busy later but we are on the early train with little kids at home with the sitter. Dinner was great. We weren't too hungry so we split an appetizer, salad and fish entree. The cucumber spicy margaritas were fantastic. Service was great!
David is the man! Excellent food, service was perfect. We were taken great care of!
Waitress left for a car considerable amount of time. Our dirty plates sat on the table during that time even though the bus boy passed us a few times.
Much too expensive. Great food if you don't mind spending 25/30 bucks for pasta and a minimum of $45.00 for wine you can buy at the store for $10.00.
We come here frequently. Great bar, great food, great service. It's a neighborhood favorite. Just go!
Waiter service was poor frequently had to have others call him. Also spaghetti bolognese although good very over priced and I had to remind waiter to bring out Parmesan cheese etc. so in all overpriced for poor service
New server very inexperienced. Felt bad for him. He shouldn't be all on his own.
Went to Crush on 5/3 for dinner. Service was slow and lacked motivation, it seemed. Wife's pasta dish was very disappointing: soup bowl size of gnocchi with pesto sauce and two, two quarter size scallops. Price? $29. My small pizza? Only had two of the four meats ordered. Price? $24. Glass of $15 retail per bottle Riesling for my wife? $13. Dessert was supposed to be chocolate croissant bread pudding with chocolate gelato. Received what? Very dense traditional bread pudding with raisins and vanilla gelato. Waiter said this is their version despite there being no hint of chocolate nor croissants. Raisins in chocolate bread pudding? Are you kidding? I make a excellent version of this at home so I know what it's supposed to be. Total bill? $100. Don't live in the area but are there 4-5 times per year and won't be going back.
The restaurant is sort of hit-or-miss. The owners have changed over a few times so I am never sure what to expect. However, this past visit was our last. The waiter kept forgetting items and hardly ever came by our table. Not sure if he had another section on the other side of the restaurant or what, but he was terrible. The food was ok, but for the price, we expect better.
The food is classic italian and done quite well. However, for the prices you would expect a bit more. I enjoyed the simpler items on the menu.
This was our first time at Crush and we will definitely be back again - service was outstanding and we sat in the little courtyard and thoroughly enjoyed our meal - ordered a bunch of different appetizers and a dessert to die for ...
I always enjoy meals at Crush. Love the ambiance and the menu, especially the baby kale salad. Live music is a nice touch. Wine and cocktail list a little pricey, however.
Great service along with great food made for a very enjoyable evening out with friends. The osso buco was delicious and paired nicely with a 2010 Barolo from their wine menu. Also the prosciutto and melon appetizer was fantastic. We have dined at Crush in the past and will certainly return!
The host was friendly and accommodating. The waiter was slow, the 4 salads took almost 20 minutes to get and I had to ask for the check. There were maybe 10 patrons in the restaurant so don't understand why the slow service. I think the restaurant should just close for lunch right now. We won't go back.
We have been meeting our friends here for 2 years. . ( 1/2 way). Crush had a good menue in the past, but it has changed. Eliminated meatball Monday. 😳Meatballs continue to be delicious.
However main courses are very overpriced for a casual restaurant with no tablecloths. Salmon about $30 for nothing special etc.
new menus had make your own pasta, a little confusing. Pizza was delicious. Dinner salads were fresh & decent size. Wine by the glass was a little high ($12-22) with very limited choices by the glass.
Also the waitstaff need to clear the table almost before each person was done was annoying. Properly they should not clear until Everyone is done.
Servers forgot us, food was late and not that good, bottomless drinks were awful, ate 2 hrs after reservation.
The food is spectacular every time we've been here. It's labeled as Italian, but their dishes seem to span several cuisines. And it's all good.
And above all, this place is worth the crappy San Diego traffic to try one thing; the butterscotch pudding - it's to die for. One of our absolute favorite desserts of all time.
We were on vacation in Solana Beach and tried Crush on our last night there. We were very pleasantly surprised with the decor, so comfortable. Nice cushy chairs and good size tables. The food was very good as well as the wine. There was someone playing great guitar music too. Our waiter was excellent, keeping good track of us. We will definitely go there again when we are in CA next.
We first discovered Crush in February and decided to go there again for our 33rd wedding anniversary. Really loved it in February, but was a little disappointed this time around. Great attempt by waiter, but felt like he had too many tables to watch and when the meal was brought out by other staff, the pasta was missing asparagus, and it took the wait staff at least 10 minutes to come check the meal. When the kitchen admitted they forget to add the asparagus, it took another 5+ minutes and then they brought out a plate of grilled asparagus versus recooking the pasta WITH it in it. With a ticket of over $300 for 4 people, I expected more. Will I go back? I'm not sure....lots of options in San Diego.
This was very disappointing . The service was terrible. They brought the wrong salads then took them back and brought the meals and the salads came 30 minutes after the meal. They did not come back to refill wine water etc. the waiter was not apologetic and charged us full price for everything. I should have read the reviews 1st. I will not be back. I'm a former waitress so I do realize that mistakes will be made. However, the way the waitstaff handles it is everything. To apologize and possibly comp a salad or dessert would've been the appropriate thing to do.
Over the years, I've always loved CRUSH!
It's our go-to place for birthdays too. Great friendly service. Yummy quality food. Best Fritto Misto ever. Highly recommend Crush!
We've been here several times although it has been awhile. They have since changed the menu and added a build your own pasta dish and build your own pizza. Two of us went for pasta and found that it was very expensive for the pasta/sauce/one infusion (like a vegetable or a meat)-- about $25!? Beet & burrata salad was delicious but burrata portion was small. Service was extremely slow. Wait staff would promise something then not deliver (like bread for the table). Food was alright. At one point, our wait staff asked if we were still waiting for dessert when it had already been eaten and dishes cleared...Unfortunately, I felt like we could make all these items at home.
This restaurant to too noisy. The first time there was live music - advertised as Wednesday through Sunday. The food was good so I tried it on a Tuesday and it was still so loud, terrible acoustics -- and then live music started! So disappointed.
Chiopino in a tomato sauce is just shell fish fish in sauce that tasted straight out of the can nothing great not worth 41 and they served it with burned bread
We made the reservation for our anniversary using Open Table. We arrived at 6:30 for our 6:45 reservation. We were greeted at the hostess table by a woman who rudely stated shhhh as she looked at her computer. After we gave her our name she said that they were very busy and that we would have to give up our table after 90 minutes. WHAT? I never heard of anything like that in all my 60 years of dining. She claimed that making a web reservation we were only allowed 90 minutes to eat. Is Open Table aware of this? The waitress was very sweet and tried hard but was obviously new and untrained. We had to go to the manager to get our check and I believe he was aggressive in seeking out the waitress because she came to our table with the check visibly shaken. This place used to be good but this night we were disappointed in the way we were treated and the food was over priced and below mediocre.
Joe made our visit an enjoyable experience. He made a great wine recommendation. The "create your own salad " option was fun, and I had no one to blame if the ingredients were wrong😀.
Used to be good but this time it was not. Pizza was not as good as it used to be. The poor bartender was left alone to service all tables for most of the time we were there, eventually other staff started to help out but none of them were really focused on what they were doing. The background music was too loud, hard to even hear person next to you speak. There was no seating host at the entrance. Took over 30 minutes for the pizza to be prepared.
Great lunch and dinner spot. Just went for weekend brunch and it was yummy and not crowded.
We were looking for a restaurant that had both live music and outdoor dining. We found Crush and were not disappointed. We ended up sitting inside closer to the music. Turns out it was very chilly that evening so sitting inside seemed the wiser decision. The food was oustanding. We had the margherita flatbread and chopped salad. The flatbread was delicious. Fresh mozzerella, tomatoes, and basil was awesome. Add the good food to a cocktail and an IPA and what more could you ask for...
The food was fantastic and we enjoyed the selection, especially the baby kale/quinoa salad and mac and cheese with fennel sausage. Service was friendly but a little slow.
The food was surprisingly good - so good, we came back the next night for take out.
The food was excellent and the service provided by joel was also excellent. Further, the owner took the time to check with US to see how all the food and service was in, also, thanked us again when we left
WE HAVE EATEN AT CRUSH MANY TIMES. OUR MEAL WAS DISAPPOINTING AND WE DID NOT FEEL THAT A $6.00 PLATE/SPLITTING CHARGE WAS 'REASONABLE'. IF WE HAD KNOWN ABOUT, WE WOULD NOT HAVE AGREED TO IT. FOOD NOT AS GOOD AS IN YEARS PAST.
Great date night or valentines dinner place! friendly attentive staff. Fantastic food!
Our waiter appeared pretty drunk...not incoherent but definitely not on his A game. The food was hit or miss. The squash blossom appetizer and chicken parm were good but the grilled bread that came with my entree was burnt in several places and the sausage and spice in the mussels dish were overpowering. The pasta pricing was also confusing and WAY expensive. The live music was great but any closer and we couldn't have had a conversation. Not a horrible experience but I can't imagine we'll go back.
While the food is OK and the wine list is good, everything is EXPENSIVE. Best to go there on Wednesday when wine by the bottle (if over $50) is half price. Then, wine prices are what every other restaurant charges normally.
Very loud - if you don't mind.
Food good but over-rated.
