Crush - Chico Ratings and Reviews
Was a special occasion dinner with my girlfriend who after dinner was my fiance. Dinner was phenominal food was great. Taylor the hostess took delivery of flowers for my soon to be bride assured that the flowers as well as a bottle of Vueve was on the table when we arrived. Josh our server was right there when we needed everything and was able to read the mood of the table and the timing if our meal attentive but unintrusive.
Overall Review: Good, but could have been even better. A tad bit expensive.
I took a first date here. She is a Chico native and suggested we go to Crush. I am from out-of-town and had not previously heard of Crush.
I made reservations for two at 5:30 p.m. on a Friday night. The dining room was absolutely packed. I didn't think it would be so busy that early in the evening. The noise level was extremely high, but it didn't interfere too much with our conversation. Truthfully, I didn't even notice the ambiance/decor at all. It seemed like an ordinary "nice" restaurant in that respect. We were seated promptly at the time of our reservation, which I appreciated.
Both my date and I ordered the Gorgonzola salad along with a bowl of Lentil soup. The Lentil soup was excellent, with tiny bits of ham and carrots in it. However, my bowl of soup was not even lukewarm and that really detracted from my enjoyment. It would have tasted much better if it had simply been warmed up to "regular" soup temperature. I ate my soup and didn't complain. The Gorgonzola salad was also good.
My date ordered two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc wine. The wine came in huge glasses (?), but the wine barely made it 1/3 full in the glass. I thought it looked silly to put such little wine in such a large glass. Soup was $8.00 each; Salad was $9.00 each and the wine was $12.00 each. Along with my Iced Tea, the check came to $65.00. I realize that the wine really inflated the check, but I still think that $65.00 for "soup and salad" with two glasses of wine was pretty steep.
Service was excellent; attentive, but not intrusive. I left a nice tip.
Would I go back? Well, I'm not in a hurry to return to Crush. I would rather try another "nice" restaurant in Chico. That said, I would also return to Crush without a problem.
Friends and I agree that the food was better than average to very good, and that Crush is a good choice in other respects. One problem, however, was that, it being a weekend evening, the noise was a negative. A second was that, for an older customer with some health problems, using the men's room required a considerable effort, going downstairs two flights or taking an elevator which was very busy.
On the positive side, the serving staff were attentive and among the most professional in Chico.
My boyfriend and I came her for our first "fancy" date. We dressed up and almost felt over dressed. My boyfriend was super excited about it and we were enjoying our date, but I noticed our server looming in the back, watching us like a hawk. It made me feel a little on edge, but I couldn't tell why I was. I brought it to my boyfriend's attention but his back was to our server, so he didn't notice. We continued our normal conversation, but I could still see our server out of the corner of my eye just watching us. When we finished our food, another server boxed my food and brought it back. My boyfriend and I waited for quite some time for our check. We just assumed we paid up front after such a long wait, so we got up and as we made it the the front, the server that was watching us like a hawk came up behind us and, in a slightly annoyed and almost angry tone, he asked with an almost forced smile, "Can I help you?" I then explained to him we were coming up to pay because we were waiting for our check and no one came so we assumed we paid up front. "No, we bring the check to you," he replied with an annoyed tone. I then proceeded to apologize countless times, thanks to my anxiety. We paid and rushed out, since I was overwhelmed with anxiety.
Other than feeling like being accused as a Dine and Dasher, we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food!
Crush never disappoints. This was our 24th Anniversary. We live in Carson City, Nevada and have enjoyed Birthdays, Mothers Day and now our 24th Wedding Anniversary at Crush. The service is always fabulous. The food is out of this world. If I had to pick a negative, I would say that It is loud inside. It may be ok for most other people, and it may just be me.
We had a wonderful meal before going to a theater performance. We started with two excellent cocktails: a mojito and a peach smash. The green salad was delicious. Both main courses were great but the eggplant parmigiana was the best dish. Bread pudding for dessert was a perfect finish to a great meal.
The restaurant could not find our reservation with request for a window table, however, after explaining to the hostess she was able to provide a window table and we were seated immediately. We received bread and olive oil immediately followed by the appetizer as ordered. There was a forty minute for the entree after finishing the appetizer. During this time we never saw the waiter. The rib eye steak was flavorful but too tough for $38.50. Also, about 1/3 of the steak was fat. The lasagna was mediocre.
We had a question regarding the $4.00 valet parking fee. The waiter said he could add it to the bill but we told him not to add it and that we would pay cash outside to the attendants. It was added. We didn't notice the addition and paid it again outside along with a tip.
As visitors to Chico, we went to this restaurant because of its good reviews. Indeed, the food was excellent and the decor of the restaurant was very nice. As a white table cloth restaurant it was missing proper service. The service was very fast - too fast. It felt like we were being hurried out and by the time we left most of the other tables in the restaurant had also emptied out.
Took our daughter here tonight while visiting her at college. Bruschetta was excellent. Nice high end quality pizza. Chicken parmesan was also excellent. Chicken piccata as well. Impressive wine list and prices as well with Frank Family, Justin, Caymus and Silver Oak by the glass. Definitely a place we will return.
It was so loud, I couldn't hear the people across from me. The person behind me bumped into me every time he backed up, because the tables were so close together, twice some one asked to get through and we had to move. The food was ok at best, we never got the things that we asked for, and the wine was really small for the price. I never will go back there. It was my birthday and it was terrible
Wonderful meal celebrating our anniversary. Ribeye delicious. Gazpacho fresh and perfect for Summer. Grilled artichokes were good but a little undercooked. My friend thought her chicken Alfredo was a bit dry. We split a chocolate sundae dessert which was perfect for four. Wine options were interesting and diverse. The best service from our server, Josh. Very attentive (albeit a bit too chatty) manager. Overall a wonderful experience.
It was too hot..probably because of the crowd. The food was excellent but the waitor was to pushy, and i started to get the feeling he was trying to make us hurry up and leave. He asked me at least a dozen times if i was done with my meal. Im kind of a slow eater but if i would have known we were on a time limit i would have ordered a salad. In the end i handed him my unfinished dinner.
All in all i would definitely go back , i would just ask for another waitor.
