Best meal in Charleston so far!!
Cru Cafe has become a staple for us with every visit to Charleston! I always give extra credit when our dairy allergy is easily accommodated- truffle fries without parm? No problem (.... and may not even need the cheese). Fried green tomatoes are consistently amazing. Always crispy and flavorful! Burger was excellent and the smoked salmon sandwich was the best thing st the table! We Love Cru Cafe!
My very favorite place in Charleston to take my out of town guests to for lunch. The food is always great! Best fried green tomatoes in Charleston! Close proximity to carriage rides and the market.
What a great find. Went there for lunch w/a friend. Homemade soups (tomato basil and cream of mushroom/truffle) were hearty and delicious. Eclectic choice of sandwiches made with interesting condiments (bacon jam) and tasty breads. Small intimate space worth the wait.
Outstanding lunch! DO, REPEAT, DO make reservations! Attentive service, interesting menu, generous portions - comfortable venue but tables a bit close -> it is a converted residence.
I got the portobella mushroom wrap and my wife got the Asian chicken salad. Both were very delicious and priced right for the high quality of local and fresh ingredients put into both dishes. The wait time for food great (approximately 15 minutes from the time we ordered). All the staff were polite and friendly! I highly recommend anyone (local or out-of-towner) to try this place!
Cru is amazing!!! We love the fried chicken stuffed with a poblano pepper and the pork schnitzel. For an appetizer, the fried green tomatoes are the best I have ever had. The bread pudding is phenomenal!!!!
The food was incredible and the service was great. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant is small and quaint, with low noise level. It’s a great place to go for a quiet, intimate dinner.
Cru Cafe delivered on a great early dinner with new friends. Wanting a downtown spot with a nice mix of low country and other items, worthy for foodies and not overly expensive, I chose Cru. While the menu is limited, I liked its mix of smaller plates and entrees to support trying more items with sharing. Wine selection met our needs with attentive, warm service. Seating is very tight yet we didn't hear conversations from two nearby tables. Fried Green tomato app, Chinese chicken salad and fried goat cheese salad were all things we would get again. I will gladly come back to Cru Cafe!
Excellent menu. Foodie restaurant. Lovely lunch and amazing deserts! All prepared onsite.
This exceedingly small restaurant in an unassuming house had surprisingly superb food! Our lunch consisted of a delicious Pear-Gorgonzola Salad, Gen Tso’s Chicken on a bed of tasty rice, and a magnificent, light Orange Sherbet Cake for dessert. A glass of crisp light beer complimented the meal.
Service was excellent with a knowledgeable waitress and well-timed courses. We will definitely return to this charming restaurant, next time for dinner!
Great food and staff was so kind to accommodate our last minute change to our party’s size. I loved the butter lettuce salad with salmon. Try the desserts!
Lovely evening with good food, well-paced. It’s a small place (used to be a home) so I recommend advance reservations.
Consistently very good. Small place that is not quiet as always full. Food n service Always a nice experience. Reservations a must. Enjoy!!
Wonderful like always!!!
I had been to Cru a few years ago and loved it! This time not so much. The waitress was not pleasant. The food was good - not exceptional. Note - they don’t serve fried oysters at lunch time. Fries were not hot. Too bad. I was really looking forward to getting back to Cru this trip!
Everything outstanding....as always! We can always count on CRU to deliver the BEST!
First-timers and were extremely pleased. Excellent service, tasty food, great for our lunch visit. Will definitely be a frequent customer.
As always the kitchen was hopping, and a front row seat at the kitchen window was a delightful way to spend the evening. The fried oyster salad was delicious as was the salmon. The peach and blackberry bread pudding was to die for.
Surprisingly, since we have eaten at Cru in the past, the meal was decidedly mediocre. We had the spring vegetable pasta and the fried chicken entree. Both of us left the meal with food on the plate. The server was pleasant and attentive but that could not salvage the entrees. We hope the other patrons had a more memorable experience. We will not return.
My husband said "best hamburger ever" and that includes Husk and Little Jack's.
We were seated promptly honoring our reservation.
Waitress very helpful in answering our menu questions. Excellent service.
Lunch was excellent quality and service. However didn’t have one of my favorites the oyster po boy
We chose to dine at Cru Cafe for a small, low-key bachelorette party and the entire experience was wonderful.
Besides the amazing food and friendly waitstaff cru also offers a varied menu with daily special. Be aware their Mac and cheese is addictive
Best shrimp pasta ever. Great care in preparation of every meal. Staff is very knowledgeable of food preparation and excited to serve patrons!
Absolutely fantastic, our waitress was fun and attentive, love the ambiance, will definitely come back!
We celebrated a birthday here. The place was quaint, friendly, great service and the food was excellent. I would go back over and over again. Thanks.
We were on vacation and the food and servce were outstanding. I was impressed that they kept all reservations on time with all the customers they services.
Highly recommend it.
First time in Charleston. What a great experience, will definitely return.
We had a late night dinner, a bottle of wine and a few small plates. Service was very good. Food was delicious: we had fried green tomatoes, fried brie, house-smoked salmon and mussels. We loved it all, but mussels in truffle oil and tomato- based sauce were just unforgettable. My husband is not a big fan of mussels and nevertheless he enjoyed it very much. Bread pudding was a perfect light desert for our late dinner. Strongly recommended.
Cozy neighborhood restaurant. Good service. Seafood dishes were excellent.
Wonderful experience! Cannot say enough good things about our dinner at Cru Cafe!
Wonderful experience. Food and customer service were awesome.
We loved the restaurant.... in an adorable old Charleston home located in the center of all the happening restaurants, hotels, and bars. A great location following a horse carriage tour as well.
Cru Cafe had a charming, authentic Charleston atmosphere. It had more character than most restaurants in the area. Fantastic service and incredible food fit for foodies. I highly recommend the chopped salad. My husband’s scallops were outstanding. We all loved the side of truffle fries!!!! Truly amazing!!!You could dress up or casual... anything is acceptable.
Pecan crusted brie and mac and cheese were absolutely incredible! What an overall experience... and now I need a cardiologist.
This is one of our favorite downtown places. The food is always awesome and very unique! Quaint setting.
Delicious food, but a little warm, temperature-wise. Very good service.
I have been hearing about Cru Cafe for quite some time so decided to try it this past week. The food was very good...not excellent, but certainly fine for lunch. The location and condition of the facility is very poor, in my opinion. An establishment with their food reputation can certainly do better. I realize this is part of the "charm" of Old Charleston, but frankly, the interiors need a huge facelift. Thank goodness we were able to dine on the porch.
Amazing lunch on the porch. Food is fresh and delicious. Service is attentive but not obtrusive. Tomato bisque was so tasty along with half a sandwich- perfect! Would come again when in Charleston. Don't forget to make a reservation - you need it even at lunchtime.
Best food in town. This was my second visit and I always recommend this to anyone in the Charleston area
