Crouching Tiger Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Excellent, fresh, quality food and friendly service. General Tsao's Prawns were *outrageously good* as were the Asparagus in Black Bean Sauce. Light, fresh, hot...fabulous. Good mixed drinks and a nice wine list. Would go back. Tables could be cleaner, however...ours was sticky and smeared when we arrived, as were other neighboring tables.
I've been here several times, and the service is always quick & dependable and checks regularly to make sure your meal is going well. The food comes out quickly, even when busy. It is very good, but can be a little salty and greasy at times. I really enjoy the food here-- it's a comfort food place (lots of options that go far beyond American Chinese, too, e.g., food like poached fish soup, mapo tofu, etc.). It's not a get-dressed-up to go out place, and it knows that.
I ordered the Chicken chow mein. The chickem had a weird texture to it and there wasn't much of it in the dish, mostly noodles.
I did feel very "rushed" the servers a woman acted like she was on a marathon to get as many tables served as possible. She needs to slow down a bit.
This was our first visit to Crouching Tiger and we were very impressed. The food was delicious with a good amount of spice. We arrived about 6 PM. My wife and I also appreciated that it was not too loud even though the restaurant filled up later in the evening. We will definitely be back.
It's a good thing we've been here before otherwise we would NEVER come back. Usually the food and service is really good. Today the service was extremely SLOW and the food was mediocre. The soup came out lukewarm and flavorless. The main dishes came out 15 minutes apart and were bland and if we hadn't been starving we wouldn't have eaten them.
We will wait a few months before we try it again.
We waited at least a half hour to get our drinks. It took them 45 mins to bring the appetizers to our table, of which the calimari was icy cold. Waited another 15 mins for the waiter to come back to the table. He told us the food wasn't cold when he brought it (I assure you it was). We ended up leaving after an hour having never seen our actual food order.
We ended up leaving early and going across the street.
Good Chinese soups at great value including winter melon soup. Have a large menu from mild to spicy and willing to accommodate to special requests. The service was a bit spotty this last time as there was only 1 waitress who was doing everything from seating, to taking order, to serving to cashiering. She was trying her hardest to keep up. It was during a time when they weren't expecting it to be busy on a weekend (between lunch & dinner). We come here at least once a month.
Although we were late due to traffic, the waitress/hostess never greeted us as guests. Instead she stood, waving her arms in the air and pointing to an open table!
My husband and I decided then to just get take-out if this was the quality of service. The food was OK and certainly not worth the drive from San Mateo. We ordered several items including a vegetarian dish w/shiitake mushroom and tofu. Needless to say, the dish contained neither.
Casual dinner with friend. Since it was Friday, I made a reservation which was helpful. I asked for a quiet corner since one of us has a hearing problem. Tables were widely enough separated and we enjoyed conversing with rather than yelling at each other. Service was prompt and efficient. Loved the scallion pancake and enjoyed the other dishes we ordered, none spicy. I shall have to return with a different friend to try the hotter dishes.
Excellent dishes. We love the food there and the service is very good. The restaurant is split in two halves. One half of the restaurant is very nice and modern and has a bar with flatscreen TVs. It has a nice, warm ambience. We prefer to dine on that side. The other half is not as nice, almost like the large group and overflow section. If you get thrown in there, it can be tight seating and service can either range from negligent to hurried. That half isn't nicely appointed either, kinda like they put all the decorating money into the other side then got tired or ran outta money. That being said, we will keep coming back for the tasty food.
We have been here several times as a family. We like it because it is the Chinese restaurant with ambiance. The menu has a variety of dishes from different regions of China so there is something for everyone's taste. The food is good but it is not over the top. Our more favorite Chinese place is located across time and is the old school kind of Chinese place. Crouching Tiger is a more classy Chinese place, a step up... one appropriate for special occasions, dates, etc. The food is good, not great. But what is lacking is made up for with the dining environment. Usually the service is on point and attentive. With our last visit being on Christmas, the place was crowded and busy. They forgot one of our dishes. After making it half-way through the dinner, we reminded them. Then they brought it shortly after being reminded.
