Crop Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Went for brunch. Had a great bottle of champagne. Fantastic selection of food. The staff was outstanding. Brunch is a little pricey but very good. I hope they can continue to have weekend brunches. Very few people were there. It may have been due to the weather.
We visited Crop Bistro for New Year's Eve, which included a midnight toast and party at Crop's 10th floor party room overlooking the city. I had been to the restaurant in the past and love the beautiful interior of this restored bank building. Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience on New Year's Eve and will not be returning anytime soon. We arrived on time for our 10:00pm reservation. The valet was prompt and polite. However, upon entering we were told by the hostesses that 12 reservations were waiting in front of us and that we would have to wait. There was no accommodation offered nor much of an apology. We went to the crowded bar area where the service was very slow with just two bar tenders trying to wait on a ton of people. After waiting an hour for our table, we were seated, only to see several open tables in the restaurant. The table services was essentially non-existent. The waiter poured water and asked if we'd like to order drinks. We asked for a few minutes to review the drink menu, but he basically never returned to the table. After waiting 10 to 15 minutes, we finally pulled aside another waitress to place our order for food and drinks, which she took politely and apologetically. When the food finally arrived, it was of high quality. We had never been served bread and asked the waiter who brought the food to bring us bread. He said he would but never returned to the table. Our first waiter finally stopped back a couple of times to ask how we were doing but never apologized for the wait or the service. About 11:45pm we went up to the 10th floor, and there the view of the city was incredible, the bar service with free drinks was prompt and well staffed, and music playing. This part of the experience was positive.
I am not sure what happened in the restaurant, other than thinking that Crop overbooked and understaffed their New Year's Eve. It was not an enjoyable way to spend the evening and we won't be back anytime soon.
Ambiance gets one star. Our table was next to a partition separated from the rest of the restaurant near the restrooms. Service gets two stars. Our server was not very attentive and we had to ask the server assistant for help when our food came out. Also one of the sides we ordered never came out. Food gets 5 stars along with value. The food was incredible and the price point was spot on for the level of food.
Our daughter arrived 10 minutes before us and she was not served with a beverage in that time. After ordering a bottle of bubbly it was served in regular wine glasses. We waited some time for our order to be taken. It was our servers first New Year and we understood. It was a little hit or miss. Not the usual high standard. Disappointing as I love this restaurant. Never had this problem before. I would go back as the food was still amazing, just the service lacked somewhat.
We went for the brunch for our anniversary. The food on the buffet was great and the service was good too. The seafood was fresh and delicious. Amazing lobster omelette and even the shrimp cocktail was worth mentioning! A great selection for everyone. The complementary Bloody Mary was delicious.
This was a great local spot with a nice change of scenery. It was nice without being stuffy. The inside was beautiful.
I had a great time and we recommend to anyone! Great location, the West Side Market is right across the street. The perfect brunch to start your afternoon.
My wife and I celebrated both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve here. Originally only planned for Christmas Eve, but it was so good, we had to go back! Our food was really great. I admit that, the second-time around, I ate pretty-much ONLY the cold seafood, which was outstanding, especially being this far inland; excellent shrimp, salads, and the salmon were amazing. The buffet was well tended; many small deserts also, which were all freshly made here. A little expensive for everyday, but for special occasions, well worth it!
It’s a bit loud because of the high ceiling, but otherwise it’s a unique atmosphere.
The front door slams shut, so be sure to sit away from it.
The food was good, though the salmon entree was a bit heavy on the sauce, which makes me wonder about the fish’s freshness.
The service was friendly and attentive.
I would definitely go back.
Crop never fails to deliver on wonderful food. One member of our party tried the gnocchi special. It may have been the best gnocchi I've ever had! I was a little disappointed with the dessert menu. My past visits have always included dessert as the dessert menu choices are always so interesting and unusual (and always delicious!). The dessert menu this night was mundane at best. Our choices were still tasty but no different than I could have gotten elsewhere.
I made reservations for Christmas Eve brunch at 3:00 . The food on the brunch tables looked old and cold and it had been in the serving trays too long. We got crab legs that we couldn't open, so I asked my server for a picking small fork to pull the crab out of the shell. They looked at me like I had two heads. She brought back a normal size fork, which was too big!! So I went over to the food tables, and asked one of the wait staff to find me a tiny fork. He was confused. I told him that if a restaurant of this caliber was going to serve crab legs, they should also have the proper utensils on hand to get the crab out. After 10 minutes, someone found one and brought it to the table.
We were also seated right in front of the front door and Christmas Eve was cold and windy. Every time a group of people or the Valets opened the front doors, a rush of cold air hit our table. This went on for two hours. even the Valet apologized to us about where we were seated. But what annoys me most, is we asked the three young hostesses for a table farther away from the door( same size table) and she said that the one by the front door was already set-up. She didn't listen to her guests This is a very common practice when seating female guests, to put them by the bathroom, or the least desirable seating. Well, I should have asked for a refund, because it was a hassle, our waitress had to be summoned twice from other wait staff because she was mostly MIA our entire meal.
I didn't want to be negative, but there where so many negative factors going on, that this experience was a true disappointment after we had been so excited to try something new.
My boyfriend and I had a very nice Xmas eve brunch at the restaurant. Although, our reservation was at 2PM the food continued to be replenished which ensured the food was fresh and plentiful. I was very pleased with the wide variety of food, fruits, and desserts all of which were very tasty! Thanks for making out pre-holiday meal nice! We will definitely be back! :)
First off, we have been there on other occasions and have had great experiences. We had taken my Mother to see ON YOUR FEET as a Xmas present and she likes Crop Bistro, so she was excited we were going there for dinner. The food was fine but the evening was ruined by the horrible service by our specific waiter. He slammed my Mother's coffee down, splashing it all over, and we were dressed for the theater. He ignored us, He never brought us bread, we had to ask another very accommodating waiter for that. He never asked us how our food was or if we wanted dessert. I understand that we all have bad days, but you NEVER treat people so rude. This was part of my 84 yr. old Mother's Xmas celebration and was VERY disappointing to say the least.....
Crop brunch is 100% self serve which makes me want to compare it to others in that category. The omelets were delicious. The fruit was good. The dessert area left something to be desired. The service was awesome. They need condiments in a self serve format because it was a little tough finding someone every time you wanted ketchup or butter.
The food was amazing but our service was horrible. We had a new server with no experience or training. Not good for a class act place such as Crop Bistro. It put a damper on a very special bday celebration. Another server tried to compensate at the end of our meal but it was a little too late. Unfortunately didn’t get to enjoy the whole top dining experience, but paid for it.
Stunning atmosphere, but the food was disappointing. We had a large party of 9 on December 20th. The service was good, but the food was mediocre. We switched last minute from TownHall (which is casual) to this fancier venue. We usually go to Blue Point Grill or Cabin Club for my birthday dinner. If the food improved I would return. The inside of the building was truly worth seeing, and just beautifully decorated for the holidays!
Went for brunch. No comparison to pier w. Food cold, old and burned. Could not cut through the English muffin served with the eggs Benedict. Scrambled eggs dry and cold. Sausage tough. Service however was good. Coffee lukewarm. High price for poor food. A waste!
I will start by saying the food was excellent. The setting/interior is very unique and beautiful.
I can not say the same about our server. When I made the reservation through opentable I specifically wrote out it was my wife’s birthday and she was graduating college. It was supposed to be special. But the server Ryan was below average at best.
It took 15minutes to get water and at 25mins we finally received our drinks. We asked about a couple menu items and his response was “I dunno, I’ve never had it. “ Even if you haven’t it should be your job to describe it. Disappointed is how I would sum it up. We were gracious and did not complain that evening. But now that I’m being asked to comment here it is. I waited tables for 3 years and understand if you have an off night. It just so happened to be our table I guess and I was disappointed.
Met a group of friends for a late lunch, 1 PM on a Friday. Dining room was only 25% full, yet the service was horribly slow. It took us 15 minutes to get water and place orders for cocktails. Drinks arrive 30 minutes later (45 after we sat down). Food came out another 15 minutes later (now an hour after we sat). Our appetizers never arrived. Only two other tables were being served during this time, so the delay was unexplainable. Our food was sitting in plain sight, under the warming lights, for 15 minutes, before it was served. No management was in sight, no one asked about our experience.
We had planned to sit around, have a few cocktails, appetizers, and entrees. Instead we each had a drink and a meal, and left to find a better place as quick as possible.
I've dined at Crop many times and always had high-quality service; this trip was really a disappoint. I was responsible for picking the restaurant for our group of friends, and was embarrassed at how poor of an experience it was.
