It was the perfect place to have a light but delicious gumbo and seafood dinner. From the perfect old time and more recent cocktails (side car and Fluer de Lis) to the wonderful local seafood, Criollo is a gem in the hustle bustle French Quarter. So often restaurants in hotels have a bad rap Criollo this is THE exception.
Came here for brunch and had the most amazing brunch in NOLA, the experience was enhanced by Charmaine who took such good care of us and just put the whole experience over the top! The shrimps and grits were not on the menu but they made it for us anyway and it was exquisite. We also had the best biscuits and gravy ever which was a perfect balance of fluffy biscuits and gravy that knocked it out of the ballpark. And for the finale... the benignets, I think the best in town! Definitely will be back soon!
Our experience at Criollo was a little disappointing. We started off with the soup of the day which was chicken noodle soup. The soup was very tasty, but we wished they would've used a thicker noodle instead of the vermicelli. For my meal I had the shrimp, crab, and avocado appetizer. The shrimp had a very strong grill flavor, which was unappealing to me. The remainder of the meal was decent. My guest had the grilled fish open faced sandwich with the gluten free Brazilian cheese bread. The fish that was used was puppy drum. Her fish was undercooked in the center, but she was able to eat around it. Our meal was mediocre but the service staff was very attentive and very kind.
The many decades we have been to New Orleans we have not eaten at the restaurant. It was fabulous! Great servers and chefs. We were seated by the cooking bar which some might think negatively upon. We loved it. We were able to observe in the preparation of the plates including salads, appetizers and main dishes. The care and artistic presentations were notable. We had a blast just observing the care taken to make each plate a piece of art. It was even better to eat and enjoy!
Service was good. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the food. The food was terrible there is nothing criollo/creole about it. I can only compare the taste to hospital food. They need a someone checking the food that is being sent out to the customers. Price was high compare to what they offer.
My first time visiting this particular restaurant in New Orleans let alone first in this state. I loved everything about the restaurant. The food, oh my heavens, EXCELLENT!
The service, yes, you won't regret it.
This restaurant is the the example of a restaurant that every other restaurant should follow.
As always, Criollo at the Hotel Monteleone is second to none! From the moment that we walked in until the moment that we left we felt that everybody that was working ensured that we had a wonderful dining experience. As always, Chef Diego made sure that I had a vegetarian appetizer and entrée and that they were full of flavor and not as boring as vegetarian food can be. Of course, James was very attentive to our needs and made us all feel special. One of my guests could not believe how delicious the duck entrée was. Thank you all for another great dinner!
Celebrated our anniversary here as we did four years earlier. Like the earlier experience, the Criollo makes for a special night-- from the warm reception we got on entering from Trnka,to our excellent waitress Jade, and to our busboy (so much more than that--and he took some excellent photos of us) as well as to the kitchen staffer who delivered our dinner-- all were exceptionally attentive and pleasant. The appetizer, a flight of small soup options was outstanding as was my main course, a duck breast. The Criollo offered us two creme brulees decorated with "Happy Anniversary" to finish off the really memorable evening. It would be hard to overemphasize how pleasant the staff is. We'll be back, and highly recommend trying one of the best kitchens in New Orleans!
Husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. James, our server was very warm and friendly. Fernando was charming and attentive. The hostess who greeted us at the door (sorry didn't get her name) had a very nice, welcoming smile.
The food was excellent! Everything was plated nicely and the service was fast.
Overall experience was very good. We will be back when we are in town and highly recommend.
Crillo is amazing, from the wait staff to the food, they can do no wrong in my opinion. Every time I visit New Orleans, I make it a point to stop by. Each time Joseph is our server which speaks volumes about the restaurant and the service they provide. Joseph is attentive and thoughtful, definitely an amazing server. And the food. OH GOODNESS! It is delicious. Everything on the menu is outstanding. I had the shrimp bienville with risotto. The shrimp were good but the risotto was the star. My boyfriend enjoyed their Coolinary menu, a prix fixe menu for their restaurant week, which was also amazing! It was his birthday so Joseph surprised him with a gelato Napoleon, which was also amazing. I cannot say enough good things about Crillo. It is amazing!
Not staying at this hotel but Went for Sunday breakfast because reviews were good. We sat near the open kitchen so it was much too noisy, especially for breakfast, with the staff yelling at each other. Service was poor and food was just ok. I would only eat at this restaurant if staying in the hotel.
Had our anniversary brunch here. Ordered the beignets our server recommended though we are locals and weren't expecting much difference. Wow best beignets we've ever had! Great service, casual atmosphere in a beautiful hotel. Sit by the windows if you can. Would highly recommend for breakfast/brunch.
Criollo was not as good this time as we have experienced in the past, on which occasions, I would have given an unequivocal five stars in all categories. The menu selections were not as varied and the preparation was just good, not spectacular. I am sure I will be back and I will update this report to let visitors know if this was simply an aberration.

Michael our waiter was very helpful. I enjoyed the fried green tomatoes with my eggs and biscuit. They have a nice variety of Cajun inspired choices for breakfast.
Atmosphere was styled after a french brasserie.
