CRaVing Ratings and Reviews
Went to Craving on a Tuesday night, it was very quiet. Ordered chorizo stuffed dates, calf liver and carpaccio, as appetizers. All were presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. Ricotta gnocchi, handkerchief pasta and a veal T-Bone were done to perfection. Everybody enjoyed their meals.
Food was mixed. I ordered eggs benedict that were delicious. Eggs perfectly poached. Delicious peameal bacon and tender hashbrowns. Two of our party ordered french toast. ONe plain, one caramel apple. hugely disappointing. the 'brioche' was dry and stale, and the eggs had not soaked into the break so they formed kind of an omelette coating on the outside. Coffee was fresh and the waitress kindly brought us a basket of house-baked foccaccia that was a treat.
Both my husband and I ordered the homemade pasta. He had the gnocchi, and I had the handkerchief pesto pasta. My pesto pasta was delicious with a strong garlic flavor, which I love. My husband felt that his gnocchi was a bit bland. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our salads, which were quit large and delicious! There was not music playing, which was a bit odd, but we overall enjoyed our experience.
My $42 steak was terrible. It was full of fat and gristle and impossible to chew. Moreover I was led to believe that this was part of the restaurant week special by our waitress, so I was willing to let a tough piece of meat go. However when I was presented with a $42 price for the steak I was very disappointed. Also, the wine, while good, was woefully stingy. It’s seven dollars a pop, definitely not worth it here in north Buffalo.
Our waitress, was dismissive of our comments and we will not be returning Or recommending. A bright spot, was the bone marrow. Very different and delicious
Wonderful Restaurant Week experience! Food was awesome - asparagus mushroom salad is one of the best dishes ever. Caesar salad and shortribs were also excellent as was the merlot (1/2 price on Monday when we went). Service was exceptionally good - responsive, knowledgeable and friendly but not intrusive. Highly recommend even when you don't get the value of Restaurant week. And it's right next to North Park theatre where we headed after our early dinner.
The selection was interesting and creative, the service quite good, and the preparation/presentation was outstanding. The price was also very reasonable -- especially given the quality. This was my first time at CRaVing, but will most certainly not be my last. It was a delightful and pleasant surprise.
We had a lively birthday dinner Our server encouraged us to enjoy the locally sourced ingredients on the menu. The date with bacon appetizer was delicious and full of flavor. The fresh veggies made the Farmer's Market salad a great choice The gnocchi and handkerchief pasta dishes were the perfect size. Nice to the option of half portions. The s'mores dessert was fun to split.
Our meal was outstanding and the service was superb for a Saturday night. We enjoyed the variations that we presented to us. The veal was outstanding and the amount of chicken for the price could have been a little more generous. Staff were very attentive. Overall a wonderful experience.
We met another couple for brunch on Sunday for brunch on the patio. What an amazing time from start to finish! We started with cocktails from their incredible brunch cocktail list, then enjoyed a basket of their wonderful homemade breads. Our meals were excellent after that. Inventive and creative twists on the normal brunch fare. Wonderfully executed and deliciously prepared. I honestly think this restaurant is an undiscovered gem of north Buffalo! One of my favorites that I will continue to frequent as much as I can!
I love this place. I have been many times and everyone I introduce Crāv to falls in love too. It is my go-to place location wise when a bunch of people are coming from every direction. DO NOT TRUST OPENTABLE's BOOKING! If I would have gone by the blocks of unaavailability I wouldn't have gone. I called and was told not only did I not need reservations for lunch, when I got there the restaurant had plenty of tables.
Met a friend for an early dinner and had a drink at the bar before moving to the patio. Tom, I believe, was a really great server. Professional and playful. We split the dates and a salad--really enjoyed the pickled ramps on the salad--and then split the handkerchief pasta (full) for dinner. Would certainly recommend this spot on Hertel.
Craving never fails to deliver the goods as an outstanding restaurant with excellent food and great service. Lots of locally sourced options and creative work by the chef makes for an always good meal. One of our favorite restaurants in WNY. The casual neighberhood vibe is relaxing. Don't be fooled by the unpretentious look on the outside. The meals are gourmet quality. (I'm a big fan of the salmon fwiw).
We had a great experience at Craving. The restaurant was not busy. The service was rather slow; but we were not in a hurry. The salads and mains were delicious.
My daughter had a queasy stomach from something she had at lunch earlier; and the staff was accommodating to bring her a glass of bitters and ginger, which really helped.
We would definitely come again.
Stopped for lunch after touring an old historic site in Buffalo nearby. We had a great time, the food was excellent, the service spot on! The location on Hertel is fitting because of how unique the neighborhood shops are along the street. CraVing is one of our favorites.
