CRATE Sushi & Seafood
Wonderful food and perfect service by Benjamin. Great date night
Ben was our server, he was fantastic. The food arrived promptly and was delish. This was our first time at Crate and certainly not our last. Thanks for the great experience.
Place was almost empty and I felt sick after dinner
Really well prepared dishes. Nice wine selections. Service could be better .
My husband and I visited crate over the weekend. The atmosphere was lovely and our waiter was outstanding. My husband ordered the Pork Belly Ramen, but was told that they were out. Our waiter was very apologetc. We ended up each ordering a basic sushi roll and a special sushi roll. Typically (at other sushi resturaunts that we frequent) a special roll costs $5-10 more than a basic roll, but is also larger than a basic roll. These rolls all appeared to be on the small side for the price. They were delicious though, and would return if in the area. The ingredients like, lemon infused tobiko and fresh basil, gave the rolls a unique flavor compared to other sushi I have had. Overall it was a nice dinner.
Crate is one of the more creative restaurant alternatives to the typical sports bars and supper clubs in Door County, especially when it comes to seafood. It's only drawback is its noise level that emanates from the bar and the annoying level of too energetic music. High energy levels, even from the otherwise excellent servers who have to shout for attention, seem like strange accoutrements when it comes to a personal evening of sushi, saki and sophisticated food preparation. Crate needs to dial it back.
Great sushi, great service, oysters tasted great but definitely over priced (6 for$20)
Food was a little slow to arrive but the place is so nice and the waiter Benjamin was too that I have to give it five stars. Lots of great menu options, delicious food, reasonably priced. Would definitely go back. 😊
Food was good, service could have been better that evening.
The flavor of all the food we had was great, but some items were warmer than we would have expected. For example, the raw oysters and sushi. Not sure if they were put onto warm plates or sat at room temperature for too long, but thought they should have been cooler.
We have not had Sushi since moving to Door County. It was great to find a place that is equivalent to the sushi restaurants we were used to in Milwaukee.
We had a delightful meal at the CRATE this past weekend, having selected a variety of choices from their menu. Our sushi, calamari and each of their accompanying sauces were delicious. The edamame saiad a treat of flavors and textures. And, the ahi tuna entree we shared was exceptionally fresh, perfectly seared and accompanied with some delicious side dishes. It is a pleasant surprise to find this quality of restaurant in a smaller town. The table we had added to our evening's pleasure, being in the front of the house by the window. It kept the noise level of a larger party, dining at the same time and in the back of the house, down to a level that could have been obtrusive.
The meal was delicious! They were able to accommodate both my gluten allergy and my sons dairy. The waitress was a little too busy but overall she did a great job. The sushi was pretty basic stuff and the presentation was very plain, but overall they tasted great so I would recommend.
This is our 3rd time at Crate and it did not disappoint. We had a delicious bottle of wine, my husband had the special t-bone and I had the white fish. Both entrees cooked to perfection. Our server Coco was top notch and bright and a sunny part of our dinner.
Very Good Food, waiter was awesome, forgot his name. Tartare sauce was good on the fish lol
It was just ok.
Friday night fish dinners are very good. Really enjoy the whitefish plate. Good variety of sushi. Nice dinner option for Sturgeon Bay. Friendly staff.
We are from Milwaukee and stayed at a bed and breakfast in Algoma. We told another two other guests and they went the next day and also had great food and experience.
Thank you for a fun time on my 65th birthday,
Cocktails were great. The food was good. Loved the use of C&B goods for furniture, plates, glasses etc. Also like to go in store after dinner.
Reasonable prices, large range of food choices and ranging from small portion to dinner size.
Benjamin is the best. Makes our trip to CRATE worth while.
Great food, great service
The sushi was so-so but the vichyssoise was amazing I would come back just for that.
The first time we ate at Crate we loved it so much we ended up going back the next night. It is now on our "must-do" list every time we go to Door County. The sushi is fresh, creative and easily the best we have ever had in Wisconsin!
The majority of our dinner was awesome! Fresh raw oysters, lobster cocktail and beef carpaccio—all great. Good beer and cocktail selection. Loved the “gin fix”! My rainbow trout was very good and our friends had steaks, which they reported as delicious. Our only disappointment were the crab cakes—-more like deep fried crab fritters. Not what one expects in a crab cake. Would go back, for sure.
Excellent sushi and service! We had unagi and avocado rolls, salmon sashimi and tuna rolls. Everything was absolutely delicious. Nice location. Didn't enjoy the hot sake, however. I'd go with the bottled sake next time.
Our family of seven dined at Crate during a trip to Sturgeon Bay for salmon fishing. Looking for a foodie experience, we were not disappointed. The food was on point and the server had great energy. Love this addition to Sturgeon Bay, great atmosphere and even better sushi/entrees. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Wonderful sushi rolls. Limitted but creative menu. Delightful staff. Superb service. Very high quality steak, seafood and pork. Enjoyable evening at Crate.
Great food. We were able to sit outside and just enjoyed the foot traffic going by.
I have eaten several times at CRATE and have never been disappointed. Great Food, Great Service.
Spent the first 30 minutes at the bar. Great service.
We had an awesome time at CRATE on Monday night. The Bhudda's Delight was perfect for the vegans in our group. Can't thank the chef enough for swapping out ramen noodles for rice instead. Others in our party loved the scallops, and we were all pleased by the wine list. We would recommend CRATE to others and would go back. Many thanks to our server & our chef!
We have been to Crate about 4 times for Sushi, and have always enjoyed it, but this week we felt like getting a hot dish. We found our cooked fish very creative and delicious, large scallops on bacon grits, cooked just right. The special Mauhi, was also delicious and creative. It is so convenient to the TAP theatre, which has one of their best musicals showing right now, La La Lucille. Perfect evening!
We both had sushi rolls - was OK, kind of bland. The sashimi white tuna was amazing however which may have saved the food stars! Prices were a little high for the atmosphere. It was weird.. supposed to be "fine dining" yet the servers and bartender were wearing camisoles? Defeated the purpose. One dude was wearing shorts and brand new carpenter boots, what? I was not impressed by the service at all. Our server was super spacey...forgot my drink at the bar.. so I was staring at it for 5 minutes, the bartender noticed and handed it to me. The server didn't even apologize when the bartender told her. I didn't even have a drink during my entire dinner and I'm one of those people that like to have wine with sushi. She could have at least comp'd it or told a manager? Also noticed the servers were drinking wine in front of customers.. rude! When all I wanted was MY wine. We were on our honeymoon in Door County craving sushi and this sounded like a perfect, fancy place.. but we got bland sushi with a crappy waitress wearing a tank top bra. We will never return.
We ordered the brussel sprouts as an app. and although they were overall tasty, they had been slightly burnt. We ordered three rolls and the rice was undercooked on all three and the temperature of the food was room temperature which was quite unappetizing. Great service and decor but the food was disappointing.
Entrees were great ! Service was great !
Service was ambivalent. Very loud. Sushi was mediorce. Prices were very high.
Second time we've been to this restaurant and we drove from GB just for dinner. The wine list was short, but had a few good red options. As we experienced the first time, the red wine we ordered was way too warm and needed to be chilled down closer to 63 degrees. The oysters were very good, as was the salad we had. We chose the Wagyu Sirloin as you can't get it very often in the area. The setup of sweet corn risotto was really great. The meat was a bit grainy as sirloin can be, but unfortunately it was over salted in spots to the point that it burned the back of our throats. Would definitely eat there again, but order without salt on the meat or go seafood for your entree.
Love this place! Great spot for an interesting meal in Sturgeon Bay.
Was really looking forward to a rare date night out. Unfortunately, service was poor and wait times were long. The server appeared new, and made some mistakes, which alone is no big deal. Everyone has to be new at some point. But her attitude was amazingly poor. The manager/owner (?) ended up doing most of the talking for the server, but didn’t seem to be at all concerned with our poor experience. They ended up comping part of our tab due to the long wait time but did not apologize for any of it. Apologies go a long way when service goes bad.
We have been to Crate many times. Always delicious!
